AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Sarah Sundin (& Book Giveaway!)

WordVessel is delighted to welcome author Sarah Sundin! Sarah tells us a little about yourself.

My first novel, A Distant Melody, will be published by Revell in March 2010. I live in northern California with my husband, three children, an antisocial cat, and an insane yellow lab. When I'm not ferrying the kids to soccer and karate, I work on-call as a hospital pharmacist and teach Sunday school and women's Bible studies.

How did you come to be a writer?

Not by the traditional English major ...

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Robin Caroll (& Book Giveaway!)

Born and raised in Louisiana, Robin Caroll is a southerner through and through. Her passion has always been to tell stories to entertain others. Robin's mother, bless her heart, is a genealogist who instilled in Robin the deep love of family and pride of heritage—two aspects Robin weaves into each of her books. When she isn't writing, Robin spends time with her husband of twenty years, her three beautiful daughters, and their four character-filled pets at home—in the South, where else? ...

SPIRITUAL WARFARE: The Sword of the Spirit

"Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." ~Ephesians 6:17 (NIV)

Spiritual warfare is more real than we can imagine. All around us, forces of good and evil are engaged in an epic battle--one that involves us. So far in our study, we've learned about clothing ourselves with the armorthe belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace shoes, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation.

All of the individual pieces we've s...

Then, Jen at Adventures in Unsell Land, gave such a sweet review to Texas Roads.

Earlier in the week, I was contacted by a writer friend, and we spent some time corresponding back and forth about writing and self-publishing. I feel a very heavy responsibility to be totally honest a...

I've Been Changed!

Christart.com
I've always loved the saying in the photo to the left. The older I get the more wisdom I see in it, and the more I'm able to understand how God continuously works in my life to bring me closer to Him and to change me.

This post is really a word of personal testimony, but I believe God can use our words and experiences to help others. That is my prayer for today's article.

Over the past few weeks, I've felt the enemy's attack through the criticism of others and my own self...

Using Personal Experiences in Your Writing

QUICK NOTE: I'm guest blogging today at Romance Writers on the Journey. Hope you can drop by, but don't forget to come back and join the discussion here, too.  =)

Now to using personal experiences in your writing. Wait a minute. Use your personal experiences in fiction? Um...isn't it supposed to be, well, um...fiction?

The answer? Yes and no.

Yes, the story, situations, and characters need to be made up. A figment of your imagination. Off the top of your head.

But if you want the book to ...
