What I've Learned About Villains & Heroes From Watching 'Survivor'

Okay, I'll admit it...I'm addicted to Survivor.

Honestly, I think it's great fodder for our characters. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.)

This season has been of particular interest to me since it's a showdown between some of Survivor's all-time greatest heroes and the nastiest of the nasty villains.

But something I've noticed is that every villain has a little bit of good of them, and every hero has a little bit of bad. (With maybe the exception of Tom, my favorite hero of all ...

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Leanna Ellis (& Book Giveaway!)

I'm delighted to welcome fellow Texan Leanna Ellis to WordVessel today.

Leanna, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Free time? What's that? Do most of y'all feel that way too? Maybe it's just me or that time of my life with busy kids that there doesn't seem to be much free time these days. Spending time with my husband and two children is the best time. No matter what we're doing—running errands, doing homework, having dinner, hanging out, watching a movie, traveling. When I can sna...

Spilled Out - Part Three

(Over the next few weeks leading up to Easter, I've decided to change up my routine a bit and offer Bible stories about characters and their relationship to Jesus. I wanted to be able to see the arrest, crucifixion and resurrection from their eyes. We don't have all the details of these stories given in the Bible, so those parts have been fictionalized. This story is in several parts, and is told from the perspective of Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus. You can read part one...

Winners & Updates

Hope you've all been experiencing the BEE-YOU-Ti-Ful weather we've had in northeast Texas this week. I had the week off from music lessons, so I spent a big part of the week working outdoors in my flower garden. Lots more work to do, but I had the best time. After the particularly cold and wet winter we've had, and the long hours I've spent getting TEXAS ROADS out, it felt so good to be out in the sunshine!

As you're reading this, I'm spending time with hubby, my oldest son, my beautiful dau...

BOOK REVIEWS: "No Greater Love" and "More Than Conquerors" by Kathi Macias

No Greater Love in the Extreme Devotion series by Kathi Macias, tells the story of a sixteen-year-old South African girl in the politically- and racially-charged atmosphere and violence of apartheid.

Chioma, the main character, watches as one by one the people she cares for fall victim to hatred and violence and struggles against bitterness that threatens to harden her heart.

Redemption, the power of prayer and God's Word, and God's sovereignty in the lives of His people shine like beacons ...

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Amanda Stephan (& Book Giveaway!)

I'm thrilled to welcome author Amanda Stephan to WordVessel.

Amanda, how did you come to be a writer?

I think I've always been a writer, but the turning point was probably when I decided to write my daydreams down on paper.  I was 12 when I wrote my first 'story.'

Which books on writing have been the most helpful to you and why?

Actually, this may sound strange, but the most helpful would probably be Easy Grammar, by Wanda Phillips, the textbook I use for our children's English curric...

Top of the mornin' to ye! I can't think of a better way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day (BTW, are you wearing your green?) than to have a fellow Irish gal visit. I'm pleased to welcome author Ronie Kendig, whose book "Dead Reckoning" released March 1st.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Jason J. Cross (& Book Giveaway!)

I first met Jason through Facebook, and I'm delighted to welcome him to WordVessel.

Jason, tell us about your latest book:

My book is called, His Calling!  It's about three women who have been called out of their lives by God to do His will.  The story line is a mixture of Charlie's Angels and Joan of Arcadia.  The character's are basically just given a name and it is up to them to figure out who this person is, what is their need and what God wants them to do.  In the first book (that I am...
