From the Detroit Free Press: Lions address need, add 2 O-linemen on draft night

Well, it wasn't boring.

First the Lions traded the No. 23 pick for a guy they once cut. NFL teams rarely trade to get players back, but when they do, it's usually because they hated letting them go.

Manny Ramirez wasn't that guy.

From the Detroit Free Press: No one could've predicted how Wings reached Game 7

First off, anyone who says they know what's going to happen in Game 7 should sit down and shut up. There are no patterns here. No predicting. The Red Wings stole a road win in Game 1 of this series and the Lightning stole a road win in Game 4. The Lightning whiffed when it had the momentum in Game 5, and the Wings did the same Monday night in Game 6.

It may be a case of "anything they can do, we can do worse." But there's only one night left now. No telling who grabs the vine. All we can tell you is that some kind of hockey game happened at the Joe on Monday.

From the Detroit Free Press: Michigan's no-fault insurance bill a shameful grab

You never think about it until it happens to you. Then a car crashes, and your 4-year-old is on a ventilator. Your teenaged daughter is paralyzed. Your husband has permanent brain damage.

Suddenly, the issue of how you care for these loved ones is very real. And how you pay for it is bruising reality. Medical costs can burn through $1 million as if you threw it in a furnace.

From the Detroit Free Press: Free-range children vs. close-minded parenting

When I first heard the phrase "free-range kids" I thought it was a joke. I kept thinking about chickens.

It was no joke, however, when a 10-year-old boy and his 6-year-old sister were picked up by Maryland police after a 911 call, held for 51/2 hours before their parents could see them, and finally released under a signed paper and a threat of future government action.

What was the kids' crime? Throwing rocks? Beating up schoolmates? Spraying graffiti?

No. Walking home from a park.
