SAY Detroit
More than 1,500 people attended a world premiere event celebrating the life of civil rights icon Judge Damon J. Keith on Wednesday night at the Max Fisher Music Center in Detroit. The prominent federal judge was the subject of a documentary called “Walk with Me: The Trials of Damon J. Keith” directed by filmmaker Jesse Nesser. All ticket proceeds from the event benefited S.A.Y. Detroit, founded in 2006 by author Mitch Albom, who served as one of the film’s executive producers. http://mitchalbomcharities.org/news/walk-with-me-docu-premiere-raises-funds-for-say-detroit

From the Detroit Free Press: Adoption battle may not be what it seems
As I write this column, there is a 5-year-old girl at my feet, playing with flash cards. She lives in a Haitian orphanage. Her mother died. Her father is absent. She has been staying with us due to a medical issue.
In her brief time in our Michigan home, her response to daily love and affection has been astonishing. Her language skills have jumped. Her sense of security is noticeable. The other night, we heard her laughing in her sleep.

mitch albom: Winter comes early again and who knows what this team will look like next year
Winter began to creep into the city just after six o'clock Sunday night, courtesy of a man named Nelson Cruz - or, as he is known around here, Death. Cruz, the Baltimore Orioles' designated killer, swatted a David Price pitch in the sixth inning of a scoreless game and lifted it toward rightfield. It appeared, at first, to be a harmless foul.

From the Detroit Free Press: 'Put the shirt on' is no Hail to the Victors
Jim Harbaugh, the new Michigan football coach, caused a major stir this past week on the Internet. It wasn't something he said. It wasn't a player he recruited.
He took off his shirt.
I'm not kidding.
He took off his shirt, at a football camp in Alabama, and engaged in a game of shirts-and-skins. And people snapped a photo. Several photos. And a video. Several videos.
And they went viral.
