Ragnarok Blackwing

nateweger:

Okay, I was on Quora (highly suggest joining it by the way, I think you’d like it), and I read an answer about somebody’s idea of the “most interesting vehicle.” It was the SR-71 Blackbird. As I was reading the answer (http://qr.ae/8yZJBH), I read the name Skunkworks, who apparently was the company that built the Blackbird. I immediately recognized the name from your books, I had no idea it was a real company. My guess is that the Blackbird of today evolved into the Blackwing in your books. From the answer, I learned a few more things.

The Blackbird is currently the fastest production plane in history: “If someone fired a missile at an SR-71, standard practice was to speed up and outrun the missile.”

Just like in the books, where I can’t remember the material of the Blackwing, the Blackbird is made from new methods of forming materials: “The aircraft skin was made of titanium, which is an incredibly hard metal to work with. And they had to invent new techniques to work with it (e.g. the cockpit glass is quartz that is ultrasonically fused with the titanium).”

They both fly over the deserts in Utah and Arizona and Colorado.

I also think you would like the story in the first comment under the answer. I don’t know if you’ve read the book that the comment’s excerpt comes from, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you had.

Just another example of the incredible amount of research that went into writing these books. Ari Bach, you always seem to impress me.

@the-walrus-squad

Thanks! Glad you found this. I can’t seem to load the comments though.

The Blackwing is indeed based on the Blackbird, in the first draft of Valhalla when it too place in the 1970s, that’s what Violet was stealing.

For legal reasons, Skunkworks in my books is not associated with Skunk Works from reality ;)
