Hey just to clarify a thing - Kuru is a prion disease just like CJD or "mad cow" or scrapie. To get Kuru, you don't need to practice cannibalism for multiple generations. You'd only need to consume brains of one person who carried prions. And you we're cor
Thanks! TO ALL YOU OUT THERE: DON’T EAT BRAINS. DELICIOUS BRAINS…

Note to self: next time you buy a book, go with one that doesn’t have a protagonist who makes jerky out of rapists
To be fair though is there any better use for them?
Almost literally anything else, human meat is unsafe for consumption.
Typically in 2016, sure, but survival cannibalism in 2233 is quite the opposite. In the context of the Valhalla Trilogy, I defy anyone to point to any reason that consuming the meat of the sexual predators you kill is unsafe or improper.
Communicable diseases from a rapist who is probably not too concerned with blood-to-blood contact (which could happen during, say, a violent rape scenario) or other health issues due to being mentally ill…just ya know, for starters. Also it’s improper to murder people for any reason.
Okay
But rapists aren’t people
Rapists are monsters
Monsters deserve to be killed

To the surprise of no one saying someone isn’t a person doesn’t mystically strip them of their human genetics and turn them into an inhuman monster with sufficiently altered physiology to no longer be biologically human and thus entitled to certain rights under any civilized nations legal code.
You don’t get to decide who is and is not human based on how much you dislike their behavior or decisions, biology decides who is and is not human and the legal system decides who does and does not need to be striped of certain rights for the benefit of other humans. You are not involved in ANY step of that process, your opinion does not matter and if you take matters into your own hands?
The legal system will punish you because we, as a society, have agreed that you’re wrong and that murderers must be punished for murder. You don’t get to decide that someone else isn’t human and then murder them, not how it works. This isn’t Communist China, we don’t get to decide who does and does not get rights based on how much you like them or what they do.
In short - you’re biologically, legally, and ethically wrong. Be 13 elsewhere.
Okay
Well
A) shut the fuck up
B) maybe don’t tell a CSA survivor how to feel about sexual predators?
And
C) slit the wrists of all rapists and hang them from lamp posts with barbed wite while they’re still alive
Truly I am undone by your incredible response.
What should I get you for your 14th birthday? A book on grammar, syntax, and how to format text posts on the internet perhaps? Also you’ll have to let me know when your birthday is obviously because I’m not magic and don’t know.
“But rapists aren’t people”
yes they are. people can do truly terrible things and still be people. deal with it
Human meat will give you the shakes, bout as bad as a seizure in the tremors. Not the best when you are in a survival situation. Eating human brains can give you a deadly sickness as well.
Still, now I have to play devils advocate and I’ll have to wash my mouth out afterwards. People accused of sexual violence deserve to have their fair trial. I do not subscribe to this “listen and believe” bullshit. Innocent until proven guilty exists for a DAMN good reason.
There was an episode of X-Files where a town’s insanity problem turned out to be because they were cannibals that practiced human sacrifice and disposing of the bodies via throwing them the grinder at the meat plant.
Also, I’m pretty the discussion was in regards to like an actual rape-in-progress and the hero killing the rapist in the process of stopping it. Not like someone giving a questionable accusation and a hunt happening.
My understanding is that the shakes one can get from cannibalism are the thing you get from eating brains, “Kuru,” and that eating meat from people will not give you Kuru. I believe it also has to be done for several generations to add up to the disease and tremors. Eating human jerky a few times would not result in it.
To clarify, slagartehfox is correct in that the book depicts the hero killing and eating someone who attacked her personally. I agree anyone accused in modern times of any crime deserves their day in court, but if someone is starving and dying after the apocalypse and someone tries to rape them, I personally don’t find the idea of killing and eating them to be wrong.
But seriously the same character slaughters over a hundred innocent people in a later chapter. The Valhalla trilogy’s “heroes” are not winning any moral high ground or serving as ideal ethical role models.
You don't actually cook meat to make jerky, you just dehydrate it. Usually salt is involved, you soak the meat in a saltwater brine and let it dehydrate (usually with a commercial dehydrator which does use heat, but you can make your own with some box fans
Also highly informative, thank you!
