Beheaded Sarkozy sends a warning message to Germany's Merkel
Zapiro cartoon on European austerity politics. Sarkozy pays the price in French Presidential elections and warns Germany's Merkel she may go the same way if she sticks to her guns. There's no sign that Europe's most debt-burdened, no-growth, high-unemployment economies are recovering. The austerity measures have brought hardship to their populations, but without producing short term gains that would have made the pain seem like a severe but worthwhile sacrifice. So the belt-tightening received a backlash -- exemplified most recently by the elections in Greece and France.

If Pigs could fly then Vavi would join the Democratic Alliance
Zapiro cartoon describes the impossible that Zwelinzima Vavi of Cosatu joins Helen Zille's Democratic Alliance. The Independent Newspapers reported that Zille said COSATU leader Zwelinzima Vavi’s claim that she had tried to recruit him with the lure of the power that the pair would wield together was “absurd” Zwelinzima certainly has a lively imagination. Next he’ll probably say I asked him to marry me.”
Gus Silber on Twitter "If Helen Zille & Zwelinzima Vavi did join forces, they would have a cool Brangelina name. Either ZwelinZille or HelenZima."
Chris Roper on Twitter "... actually, if capitalism and communism get into bed, the unfortunate progeny is more screwed workers. Worst of both worlds."

The phrase "when pigs fly" is an adynaton—a figure of speech so hyperbolic that it describes an impossibility. "When pigs fly" is an adynaton, a way of saying that something will never happen. The phrase is often used for humorous effect, to scoff at over-ambition.
