This morning we awoke to find that Merrimack the Fish had passed away during the night. The truth is, we knew she was ailing – though we'd been doing everything possible to keep her comfortable, in hopes that she might recover. Everyone and every source I consulted gave me the same advice, and in the end, I am confident that we did everything within our power to preserve her little life, and the quality thereof.
Rest in Peace, Merry.
I hope you enjoyed your time with us as much as we enjoyed ...

By way of general announcement, there's a rumor going around that I'll be guest of honor at ConFusion 2011 in Michigan … and I'll have you to know that the rumor is true! It's actually my second confirmed appearance of this sort for 2011, which frankly blows my mind – what with this still being only May of 2010 and all. But hey, I'll take it!
I'm absolutely delighted and honored, and I'm totally looking forward to this convention. The Michigan crowd has always been very kind to me, and...

Not much to report. Still doing writer-business clean-up in the wake of BEA, which means lots of emails, a few phone calls, and some gmail configuration (in order to let me do a video chat with a classroom in Chicago on Thursday). Today's only points of note are as follows:
Saw Prince of Persia. It lazily met the minimum of its action flick obligations, but that's about all. Alfred Molina was great, but no surprise there. Jake Gyllenhaal's abs looked nice. Again, no surprise. Ben...

Clementine
And now for a much shorter follow-up – given its own post because I was afraid that it'd get lost in the epic spiel which is my previous entry.
As so often happens in the publishing process, my upcoming Clockwork Century novella Clementine has encountered a change of plans. Rather than coming out at the end of this month, it'll debut in just a few more weeks – by mid-June, I believe – and it will now feature cover art by Jon Foster. (Foster is the artist who supplied the source material...

I have no idea how to recap the last week. If you were keeping up with my Twitter feed you already got the highlights version (the very slimmest of highlights, anyway); and if you attended any of my events, then you already know something about the recent chaos which has been my life (and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming out to see me).
I'm still wiped out, courtesy in part of a fat black cat who didn't see any good reason why I should sleep in TODAY of all days, when...

I'm in New York City. In the last 24 hours I've met scads of people (many of them, people I've known online or via phone for ages). I climbed an iron ladder and looked at the city from a very tall roof with a statue of a naked man on it. I got to have supper with a very cool B&N dude, I ran around with both my Tor and Bantam editors, I shook hands and made the rounds at both of their respective offices, and I read like hell at a crowded little bar full of steampunks and the...

Well folks, it's been an absolute delight in all ways possible – but now the Victoria Steam Expo is over, and I'm settling in for the evening. I'd better, considering that a car will be here to pick me up in less than eight hours. It's going to be a hell of an early morning, but then – the airport, and then (eventually) NYC for the Book Expo. You'd think I'd be all expo'd out by now, but no! One more to go.
But before I leave Canada, I'd like to send out a HUGE round of thanks to Jordan and...

Last night the cabaret rocked the house, with Rosie Bits stripping like no one else is doing it right — and Unwoman putting on one hell of a concert. There was wine, there were pictures, and there was an eventual crash that was probably early enough to say plenty about my age.
But now it's Sunday morning and a marching band is practicing outside on the street, playing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" with some serious panache. My husband just left to catch the Clipper back to Seattle. I'm...

After a quite pleasant and virtually uneventful trip on the Victoria Clipper, Aric and I arrived safely and warmly in Victoria, British Columbia – where we were met by Jordan and Zandra Stratford. Jordan and Zandra showed us around and took us out for coffee; and as if they weren't already 100% awesome, they had a puppy along for the ride! Reader, I squeed. I also got my hand lovingly nommed on for quite some time. Ah, teething babies.
After a couple hours of seeing the sights and sipping...

Last minute stuff
Now with MORE BULLETS! Well, it feels like the most efficient way to lay this all out. So here goes:
Victorian Steam Exposition – AKA, "Where I will be tomorrow." The hubs and I are getting up at a ridiculous hour and heading to the pier to catch the Clipper – and then, steam-party time! I cannot WAIT to see Victoria and/or the awesome folks who have made this happen.
Steam Salon in NYC – AKA, "Where I'll be on Tuesday night." Again, I am thrilled – and can't wait!
The Book Expo America – AKA...
