Website woes

Yes, CheriePriest.com is down for the moment. I've contacted my intrepid webmaster, and I'm sure all will be sorted before long.

Here are today's stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a mentally ill former NASA engineer-turned-sorceress, and the continued fabulosity of a Cuban drag queen:

New words written: 1131 (barf)

Present total word count: 48,200 words

Yes, yes. I'm a posting fool today, I know. But I've also been back at work, and battling the ongoing catchup that lands every time I'm out of town for a few days. Therefore, while today's word count is pretty respectable, it's less delightful when one considers that it's been four days since I wrote anything at all.

Anyway. Here are today's stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a...

While I'm on the subject

… the subject of "Things I Like," that is – over the weekend in D.C. I was repeatedly asked about the skirts I wore. In fact, I also came home to a couple of emails on the same subject, so here you go, you skirt-loving masses: Both of the skirts I took to D.C. came from this Etsy seller.

They are beautiful, distinctive, surprisingly affordable, very comfortable cotton creations, and I love them to pieces – so I'm happy to share the love. I own three from this same shop (1, 2, 3), and I can't ...

quick pimp

Hey folks – today my friend Sara Harvey's book The Labyrinth of the Dead debuts! It's book two of a very cool trilogy which yes, full disclosure, I have blurbed – but then again, so has Jacqueline Carey – who loved the first one (as evidenced here).

If you'd like to learn more, and maybe discover a cool new author, then I recommend you check out Labyrinth's listing at the Apex book store.

The DC recap

Hello all you beautiful people – I'm back! I'm also pretty worn out, but if I don't do a recap tonight, I won't likely post one … for I have oodles of work to do tomorrow. Ergo, tonight it is. I'll try to keep it brief and not too travelogue-y.

Friday:

Friday afternoon I flew out of Seattle into Baltimore, caught a shuttle that would take me to the train at the BWI station and made it to the (very lovely) Union Station. Then I had to wait in a frankly epic line to get a cab; so even though I w...

Locus

This afternoon, while I was in D.C. talking to a room full of fantastic librarians, news broke that Boneshaker had won the Locus Award for best science fiction novel. See? And oh my God, holy cow.

I am honored, flattered, delighted, thrilled, and tickled – and I can't thank enough all the people who voted, and all the folks who have called, tweeted, and emailed with congratulations. You are all 100% awesome, and I am absolutely dumbfounded to find my book in such amazing company.

Thank you...

Hey everyone! Please pardon the brevity of this heads-up post, as I spent all afternoon answering reader questions over at i09 – and now I have to pack for the ALA conference, which I depart for tomorrow morning.

This means two things: (1). If you have any burning questions about Boneshaker, you should probably click this link because the odds are good you aren't alone, and (2). I'm going to be largely offline for the next few days. As per usual when I'm out of town, if I update at all it's m...

Two quick things

Thing One: Guess who's going to California as a guest of the Nova Albion Steampunk Exhibition next year. Go on. GUESS. [:: shakes it ::]

Thing Two: Don't forget – tomorrow I'll be answering questions about Boneshaker over at i09's book club. Swing by and ask away! (And don't forget, I'm on West Coast time – so if you folks in other time zones don't get an answer from me right away, hang around. I'll do my best to get to you by evening.)

[Crossposted from my website. If you'd like to...
