Because I was tired and a moron, last night I forgot to mention that Boneshaker has gone into an eighth printing. I, for one, am dumbfounded, delighted, and amazed by this, and I can't possibly give a big enough THANK YOU to everyone who has picked it up. Seriously. THANK YOU.

I am furthermore chuffed because this most recent printing includes a Scholastic edition – meaning that Boneshaker will get into the hands of more young readers too, which is awesome.

Anyway, this is absolutely wild, ...

Here are today's stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a mentally ill former NASA engineer-turned-sorceress, and the continued fabulosity of a Cuban drag queen:

Project: Hellbent

New words written: 3029 (not bad)

Present total word count: 25,591 words

Things accomplished in fiction: Had the first big fight with the roommate. (It wasn't over the kitten.) Guilted...

Today I went to hang out with some 8th graders (and their teacher) in Edmonds for about an hour. The students had great questions, imaginative stories, model dirigibles made out of paper, and very cool full-color posters. I'm flattered that they picked my book for their class, and proud of them for their great creative interpretations of my weird little universe.

(You can see a couple pictures of these projects here and here).

I'll be the first to admit I've been a little distracted lately (glances at two most recent posts) … but that doesn't mean that I'm not working. As I believe I've mentioned already, if all goes according to plan, I'll have two full novels to write by the end of this year. Yes, that's the plan. Because I'm just crazy, I guess. Crazy, and in need of money, and kind of excited about both books.

Anyway, never mind that it's been a weekend. People who live and die by deadlines don't get...

Things you can do about the oil spill

IF YOU CAN VOLUNTEER and would like to do so, the National Audubon Society is training people to clean animals affected by the spill. (Note: Don't try to help oiled animals with your bare hands if you are not a trained rescuer; it could harm you both. To report oiled wildlife, call the NAS hotline at 1-866-557-1401.)

You can also sign up to volunteer through the National Wildlife Federation – where organizers are looking for people to form an extensive volunteer wildlife surveillance...

Oil

When I was about nine years old, I moved to Texas with my mom and sister. Our new home was in Orange, about six miles from the Sabine River, and maybe half an hour from the ferry to Galveston Island — where we day-tripped from time to time.

Although we'd moved to Texas from Chicago, I had very firm and fond memories of living in Tampa, Florida (where I was born). I remembered the ocean quite vividly, and the sand that looked like sugar, and the weird little things left in pools or tangled...

First, an announcement: Tor.com is hosting a free "slice" of the Boneshaker audio book, plus a wee smidge of behind-the-scenes commentary on Dreadnoughtright here. Click to hear Wil Wheaton read one of Zeke's sections – and no, it's not the one that was already previewed for free over on the Macmillan audio site.

And second: Here are today's stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a...

Today I wrapped up copyedits on Bloodshot and dove back into Hellbent, all the while feeling a peculiar sense of delight – nay, joy – because I only have to write two books by the end of this year. Hey, last half of last year, it was four projects I was juggling at once. This is practically a vacation.

So here are recent stats on my second urban fantasy adventure — this time with my neurotic undead thief, her shady agent, a cigar box full of magical penis bones, a mentally ill former NASA...
