Cherie Priest's Blog: It's awards season, so here comes the shameless self-promotion, page 100

May 20, 2010

Over the last few days, several questions have popped up in my inbox again and again – so I'm going to take a moment to address them en masse.

When will Clementine be out? Not 100% positive on this one, but I am led to understand that it will be the end of June at the very latest. Final details are being arranged at this very moment. It's coming, I promise.

Can I have an ARC of Dreadnought? Maybe. Are you a librarian, book store stock-acquiring person, reviewer, or other media-type...

bad news/good news

Bad news: The limited edition of Clementine (signed, numbered, with bonus chapbook) is all sold out – a month before it's even available, yes. This is good for me, but bad for you if you've meant to pick one up and haven't gotten around to it. My apologies.

Good news: The trade edition is still available. (And it's cheaper!)

It's been a great day over here at the homestead so far, boy howdy lemme tell you. First of all, I got my statement in the mail and HOLY CRAP Y'ALL – Boneshaker has earned out its advance! This means that I actually got a royalty check! Not a huge check, but a check all the same! ON ITS VERY FIRST STATEMENT!

[:: dies and is ded ::]

This is a personal first – and if I haven't leveled up, then I have at least eaten one of those blossomy plant things that gives me the ability to shoot...

Not much to post about right now, for all is still gearing up for the impending travel. Mostly I'm trying to get ahead with the day-job stuff, sorting what precisely I should throw in the laundry, running errands, revising and printing out new itineraries, and contemplating the horrors of packing for two significant out of town trips while bringing nothing but carry-on luggage.* Ye gods.

However, I did want to pop online and mention that Boneshaker is the June bookclub pick over at i09. So i...

Nebula verdict

Many hearty congrats to all the winners of this year's Nebula Awards, with special shout-outs to my homegirl from ye olden days, Eugie Foster – who took Best Novelette … and also to Paolo Bacigalupi, who took the Best Novel award for his remarkable book The Windup Girl.

I totally called that one :)

Helloooo weekend! This is Nebula weekend, in fact, and I'm feeling hideously left out of the festivities in Cocoa Beach – where the whole SFWA crew watched the shuttle launch this afternoon. Ah, well. I've seen a launch or two in my time,* but still, I'm sad to miss this one.

Tomorrow the Nebula award ceremony will be held at that same locale, and obviously I'll miss that too – however, assuming I can keep my East-Coast/West-Coast times straight, I'll be watching the event live from this...

Today I did more organizing/phone calling/itinerary printing re: the upcoming travel, powered through some day-job work, and spent some time soul-searching with regards to my in-progress fiction projects. That last one has been the real kicker. I have a whole horde of things I want to write, but here in the real world where there are only so many hours in the day … well. Sometimes, one must pick and choose.

In the short term, this means I will likely abandon MAPLECROFT to a back burner (not ...

Been busy doing a lot of stuff-I-can't-talk-about today, so here's the stuff I can talk about, huzzah! (Coincidentally, all of it is steampunk-themed.)
More photographic evidence that steampunk is not all brown – Courtesy of the awesome Libby Bulloff. And I know it looks like I'm all serious and ponder-y in that shot, but really, I was just concentrating on not wiggling too much because the hat was about to fall off. God, I loved that hat. If you'd like to see the whole set so far, those...

Man, I've been a terrible blogger as of late. There's been a lot going on – that's my only excuse; but the bulk of it doesn't make for scintillating blogging or anything. Mostly I'm just tweaking and firming plans for future travel and events, sorting out a new laptop (tiny and shiny! Two of my favorite things), scrambling to pull together projects, scrapping one of those projects due to lack of awesome, and generally playing catch-up with day-job work – trying to get ahead a bit before the e...

Here's today's progress on the new steam-horror fin de siecle project about ghosts, guilt, elder gods, and monster-hunting in the aftermath of two gruesome murders:

Project: (tentative title) Maplecroft

Deadline: None

New words written: 2095 (not terrible)

Present total word count: 12,306 words

Things accomplished in fiction: The town doctor notices a pattern, or part of a pattern. Is two sick people a pattern, or a coincidence? Hard to say. He'll probably need to spot a third or fourth...
