I won't bore you by cataloging how many 12-hour work days I've managed in the last 2 weeks, but I will bore you with the following — Bloodshot is now a 110,000-word manuscript. I removed about 7,000 words and wrote about 23,000 new ones to create that final count.
Tomorrow and the next day I need to make sure that my rewrites actually work, and that means combing through the whole thing one last time with my editor's notes in hand (they're in hard-copy form, so I'll do them side-by-side with ...

Tonight I went out to the University Book Store and caught an epic panel/signing that featured Mark Henry, , Jaye Wells, and Cory Doctorow. It was much fun and a marvelous time, but I didn't go out with the crew afterward. Too much work to do! Instead, I was a loser. I gave Keffy a ride home and then came home as well, so that I could get back to work for a couple of hours before bedtime. Alas.
The glamorous life!
Or something.
Anyway, everyone was awesome, and it was great to...

Today this was announced.
Boneshaker has been nominated for a Hugo Award. And I honestly have no idea what to say.
So I'll just post this, and then resume running around my apartment in utter hysterics: Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who voted to nominate me. I am honored, shocked, amazed, befuddled, overjoyed, thrilled, and humbled to be counted among the nominees; and congratulations to everyone else who made the list. It is a privilege and a delight to be included in such...

Just a real quick drive-by update, because I seriously MUST get some work done over here before heading out for the Weird Tales event at Norwescon tonight … but I wanted to make sure I put this out there before I forgot.
In short, tomorrow I'll be appearing at the Timberland Library [313 8th Ave SE; Olympia, WA 98501:]. Starting about 5:30 p.m., I'll be hanging out and reading, signing, answering questions — all that jazz. I understand there will also be a local bookseller present in case...
Not an April Fool's post.
People have been asking me about Norwescon (since it starts, I think, technically … today?) — so here's the scoop: I'm not a guest, and I'm not staying at the convention. I'm not participating in any way.
However, I will be hanging around tomorrow night. Euphemistically, you might say I'm attending BarCon. This is because I'll be in the bar.
I'll probably get there around suppertime, linger for a few hours … and then adjourn to the restaurant/bar on the top floor of the DoubleTree. ...

Here's today's progress on the new steam-horror fin de siecle project about ghosts, guilt, elder gods, and monster-hunting in the aftermath of two gruesome murders:
Project: (tentative title) Maplecroft
Deadline: None
New words written: 729 (slow but steady wins the race. right?)
Present total word count: 5237 words
Things accomplished in fiction: Examined a peculiar specimen. Got a little gleefully gross.
Things accomplished in real life: Day-job work; morning run (21 minutes again); worked ...

Here's today's progress on the new steam-horror fin de siecle project about ghosts, guilt, elder gods, and monster-hunting in the aftermath of two gruesome murders:
Project: (tentative title) Maplecroft
Deadline: None
New words written: 878
Present total word count: 4508 words
Things accomplished in fiction: Started chapter two. Changed narrators, so was a little slow starting. Switching voices doesn't come easily to me; and it'll be another 10,000 words or so before I can slip back and forth ...

Here's today's progress on the new steam-horror fin de siecle project about ghosts, guilt, elder gods, and monster-hunting in the aftermath of two gruesome murders:
Project: (tentative title) Maplecroft
Deadline: None
New words written: 1110
Present total word count: 3630 words
Things accomplished in fiction: Finished the first chapter. Now I get to wrestle with which segment to put next. This will be a little tricky, as the narrative is spread over two primary POV characters plus a couple...

We're safe back home in Seattle. All is well, and the kitty is well (thanks to Ellen, Suezie, and Elaine); and the trip was a blast! Many thanks to everyone at OPB, at the Beaverton Powell's — and to everyone who organized, tuned in, or showed up for both. Bonus! thanks to David Levine and his wife, who were kind enough to give us a very helpful lift when we really needed one.
Would do a more formal recap but I'm just about worn out, and on the verge of calling it a night.
(Thanks again...

Just wanted to take a work-break and say thanks to the folks at Oregon Public Broadcasting for having me on their show Think Out Loud this morning. It was so much fun! I got to wear the big fat headphones and everything.*
And now, real quick, I just want to remind everyone that tomorrow night — March 26, at 7:00 p.m. — you can find me at Powell's (the Beaverton location), reading, signing, and answering any questions you see fit to fling my way. Please come out and see me!
* I've done radio...
