It’s a question of…
What are your favorite sports to watch and play?
I’ll start by saying I’m not competitive, much. As a youngster I loved sports. I’d rather do than watch. My favourite thing was running which I did quite well and once I’d figured it out, how not to trip myself up, I loved the 100 metre hurdles. I continued to run, jog as I got older. I craved the freedom of just going wherever my feet took me.

Another sport I enjoyed and still do is swimming. I no longer swim as often as I’d like to but when I get the chance I’m there.

I’m not sure if you would call it a sport but yoga is another activity I really enjoy.
My go to sport would be field archery. It’s one of those pastimes that allows you to forget about everything else going on in your life, you have to concentrate for safety sake. A brisk bright day in the woods with fellow archers is great fun. I have to admit that here I do get quietly competitive.

As for watching sports I rarely get to watch it much these days. I try to keep up with the football team that I have supported all my life and like many others I try to watch the world cup.

I like the Olympics/Paralympics and marvel at the dedication of these amazing athletes. I often think back to the days of Sebastian Coe, Daly Thompson, Steve Ovett, Tessa Sanderson and who could forget Zola Budd? Showing my age now.

So that’s me, when I can I do.

Downtime
List five things you do for fun.

With the world and it’s wife doing everything at a million miles an hour we could all benefit from a little downtime where we can get it. Forget the housework for a while and do something you really enjoy. It needs no end goal or major purpose except to make you feel the way you once did as a youngster. Do you remember when you ran everywhere for no real reason, climbed a tree just because you could? That’s what made you feel good, not having any kind of agenda.

1 is family and friends, I love spending time with the people that know me best.

My number 2 has to be yoga, not that I’ve been for a while but I do miss the calming effect it had on me. After a good yoga session I felt I could tackle anything, the other people there were always a giggle too.

Number 3 is writing. I don’t claim to be the next Shakespeare yet I love that I can live in any time or place of my choosing when I get into it.

Number 4 Like many others music is my go to, couldn’t be without it.

Number 5 is walking along the seafront, sitting and watching the waves or taking my shoes off and having a splash.

You can’t beat it. Obviously you must follow this with an open bag of chips, it’s the law!

Whatever you do for fun, the main thing is that you have a good and relaxing time.

Too much stuff
Where can you reduce clutter in your life?
So, last year I decided to declutter. I decluterred so well that when I had a function to attend I found that I had literally nothing to wear. The only clothes I kept were work clothes and a few pairs of shoes.

I got rid of my entire wardrobe (except for a dress I wore when I was a GP receptionist) I got rid of dresses, skirts, tops, hats, bags, jackets, scarves and shoes. So many shoes!

Most people worry when a person does this. There’s a link to suicide and the dispersal of your possessions. This isn’t always the case. Sometimes we purely need to get rid of material things to get a clear mind and refocus on what is actually important.

I admit it’s not for everyone but, I found it incredibly cathartic if not a little brutal.

My digital k-9
How do you manage screen time for yourself?
Managing my screen time isn’t too difficult for me mostly because I have a full-time and full-on job. My issue, if any would be a lack of screen time. My job consists of 12-hour shifts that leave little time to give the web or phone too much attention. I’m not a modern day scroller because A. I simply don’t have the time and B. I have too many other things I have to do.

I love my job and I love writing. Work gives me a sense of purpose regardless of how physically and mentally tiring it can be whereas writing acts as my escape. When I do need screen time I set aside a few hours on a day off to catch up with what I can.

It’s important to switch off for a while from the digital world. It’s a valid tool I think we can all agree but it is not your master.
I’m sure I’m not female
List your top 5 grocery store items.
First of all, I will confess that my worst way to spend time is shopping. when it comes to retail therapy, “I get in, get the job done and f@#@ off.” I can’t remember who once said that but I love it.

So my top 5 items would be the foods I could live on for a week. 1. wholemeal bread 2. Yogurt 3. Baked beans 4. Coffee 5. Milk.

My son
Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.
I love all of my children equally but I would say my youngest son is the man that has positively impacted my life the most. He has taught me patience, humility and how to appreciate the simple things in life.

Being a parent is a blessing all on its own, don’t get me wrong it’s hard and it’s relentless at times, but on the whole, it’s an incredible thing.
My youngest son is autistic, we have had difficult days and we have had amazing days. He has made me the person I am today. He taught me that we never give up, that there is always a different way to do most things, that nothing happens overnight and that we should smile at at least one thing every day.
He is an inspiration and a joy.

I’d like to say yes…
Is your life today what you pictured a year ago?
Not one bit. As with many people I am finding that life is getting progressively harder, even in the areas that should be simple. People make it hard when they don’t need to. I don’t know if this is because they need to occupy their minds with ongoing problems to make them feel they are doing something or they actually feel they have a point. Either way, watching a dog that won’t let go of a mouldy old bone leaves a person more frustrated than they need to be.
