Closing It Down

I’m not a fan of talking into a vacuum. And when it comes to writing and blogging, I have to consult WIBBOW:

Would I Be Better Off Writing.

yeah… I would. So this blog will shut down by the end of the week.

Novel in 10: Day Two

Sunday, May 12th.

Happy Mother’s Day! And to celebrate this auspicious occasion, I’d love nothing better than to lay about all day and read. Just freak’n read. I have so many good books sitting on my Kindle, or on my TBR shelves. Yes, shelves. Plural.

But I can’t. I have a mini-vacation coming up in June that I do not want to miss and I don’t want to even think about writing during those days. So, it’s back to housework, writing, and feeding the imagination.

Day One is off to a Great Start: -.-

Saturday, May 11th.

I think sometimes it’s better not to announce one’s intentions to the universe. That way the universe can’t call upon the All and Powerful Murphy to rain havoc down on the schedule. That’s why I don’t do this often. And the only reason I am doing it is to show anyone who’s interested that it can be done while being a mom and holding down a household. There are blogs like this from writers who don’t have kids, but they also have a myriad of other distractions to contend wit...

My Own Day in the Life of Writer Mom

Friday, May 10th.

I figured I’d give this a go—to sort of see how I do at writing a novel in 10 days AND be a mom. I’m not officially starting the novel until Saturday. Today I’m getting my outline ready. Yes. I outline. No, it’s not a myth for me. It’s my process. And it took me 20 years to find that process and it works for me. I don’t care if other people think it’s not necessary, and I don’t care if people think you can’t be surprised or write organically from an outline.

Because In My Humb...

Free Fiction Friday: “By The Rules”

bytherulessmall

My very first original fiction. Available for $2.99.

Rules guide life as well as games. Yet game players feel safe when picking and choosing rules because life doesn’t apply to a game.

But what if they did? What if the choices made outside of the game had real consequences?

For Kevin, playing by the rules is a way of life. A geek, a loser, and a gammer who never got the girl. Until he buys an old RPG where the rules cast the player’s fate.

“By The Rules” is free on this website for one week onl...

Exciting Things To Come

Yep.

Been a wee bit busy—with writing. And webwork. And taxes.

Oi….taxes. April—be gone! Always slows things down. Had a death in the extended family, and Spring Break. And that’s just in the FIRST TWO WEEKS!

The fun stuff is, as always, the writing. Love it. And I’ve been doing a mountain of it—till April hit. But I’m getting back up on the horse and getting them done. Released two short stories; one was sold and never released, the other was previously published in a DAW anthology.

The antholog...

Humming Along

I will start this off by saying I haven’t duplicated the 10K day again. And that’s okay! I’ve been working on editing mostly, which for me in my process, means starting a 4 pass system. So on two of the upcoming pieces I’ve been doing Pass One.

Pass One: Does this story work?

I have to give myself a bit of distance for this to work properly. A week is usually good for me, but ymmv. Starting last Friday, the day after the 10k day, I picked out two novellas that I finished beginning of February....

10K in One Day!

I have no idea how I did that, other than the fact I wasn’t trying. And it wasn’t an open day either. I had a morning of errands to run, laundry, and wings to prepare for dinner (they turned out…meh…). So last night when I went to Scrivener to check my session total and did a Colon Capital O.

:O

So I went through my steps and retraced them:

I knew where I was going. I was going to end the story and had the ending in sight, along with a few zingers I wanted to put in.
I was excited about finishing...

Success!

Yep. Planning on a word count per Month seemed to work best for me. I also took a look at my daughter’s schedule—the things I could find out about like meetings, field trips, projects, appointments, etc., and made a point of putting those things on my calendar on the fridge, and in my office. I have it up next to my vision board (that’s a later post). And it worked.

As of January 31st of 2013, I had a goal of 50,000 and wrote 56,025! Yes!

Did I do it by writing every day?

No.

Did I do it by a set...
