Money Can't Buy Everything

When you reach a certain age, you begin to realize the importance of money. Growing up in The Bahamas as a boy, I had very little understanding on how money works. I've come to realize money is important. While it is true "money can't buy happiness", it can at least offer some security.

Being poor is never something anyone strives to attain. As a matter of fact, personally, I'm trying to stay as far away from poverty as possible. Lately, I've come to realize many people who become extremely wealthy often grew up in poor households, which strengthens their resolve to never again relive the experience.

Growing up as a child in The Bahamas, I never thought we were poor. However, looking back now on how I grew up, I can see we would be considered poor. As an adult I'm pursuing the concept of living life effectively and capitalizing on all that I'm learning on a daily basis. My goal is to financially secure my future in a way that I'm able to live life to the fullest without financial limitations.

I've come to understand there isn't anything wrong with having money, per se. Many people who are affluent have worked diligently to achieve the success necessary to accumulate wealth.

As you read this week’s blog, I want you to know it's the prioritization of accumulating money at all costs that is the problem. It is in this relentless pursuit many people realize money is not – and never will be – the answer to what makes a person happy.

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Money has never made man happy, nor will it; there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants."

Money can buy many things, but there are some things money can't buy.

Here are a few things money can't buy:

Manners
Morals
Trust
Patience
Respect
Common Sense

It is good to have money and the things money can buy. But it's also good to check up on yourself once in a while and make sure you haven't lost those things money can't buy.

Money also cannot buy time. The greatest mistake in life is being busy, but not effective. SUCCESS in life is the EFFECTIVE use of TIME. Register to attend my webinar this month, Manage Your Time.

Don’t be a Fake Learner

Over the years I’ve been observing a trend. There are many people who are reading and gathering content in the form of learning. What is concerning is are they learning or are they simply collecting information?

I’m a strong believer that leaders are learners. I believe it is important for us to open our self up to understand what we don’t know so that we can better perform and produce greater results in our areas of expertise or responsibilities.

Please note that good leaders are good learners and good leadership culture should produce good learning culture. What I’ve noticed about learning culture is there are fake learners.

Fake learners take notes and ask questions, but do not apply anything they’ve learned. Applying what you learn is an essential part of the learning process.

If you read a book and do not take the time to intentionally plan how you will apply what you’ve learned, have you learned anything?

Don’t get me wrong. Learning new information is a good for your brain muscle and it will continue to strengthen over time, but to appear as a learner for the sake of wanting to be seen as a good leader is not good learning or leading. It’s faking.

Leaders learn – really. Learn to know so you can apply what you’ve discovered to bring about great results.

Don’t trade your growth plan for anything. You stop growing when you stop learning. You never become great if you only gather information in your brain and then never apply the information that you have received in a learning moment.

Be curious. Don’t stop asking for help. Don’t stop asking questions. Don’t stop exploring better alternatives. Don’t stop learning! Once you learn something, don’t be fake learning. Get focused on being transformed by what you’ve discovered.

Please don’t stop learning at any age. Please do stop fake learning no matter what age you are.

Keep your inquisitive spirit alive. Be a lifelong learner. Don’t be a faker when it comes to playing the role of one who is showing oneself to be interested in learning but never being transformed by the information one is gathering.

Be sure to register for this month's webinar so you can maximize your time for learning. Sign up HERE. This class is sure to prove invaluable.

Great Living Rules

October 11th, I’ll be 45 this year. I’m super excited to have the opportunity to make it to the 45th October in my existence. My life has not been easy by any means and on so many levels I can truly say I am a testimony.

Today, I want to focus on the idea that life is filled with some basic rules for great living. I believe we make life complicated. The goal is to get better with age. However, most people are not getting better with age. Too many people are merely existing.

Through my Effective Living Life Management Agency, I am committed to challenging people to maximize their potential and live their best life now. While you’re aiming to live your best life now you should still be committing to improving yourself in every area possible to ensure that as you get older, you are also getting better.

There are so many things I wish someone had told me early on in my development. When I think about the vast number of things I still don’t know and wish someone had told me, I do wonder if I would have listened to their advice?

I wish someone had told me early on...

1. Keep your objectives simple.

2. Become a better person every day.

3. Remove yourself from dysfunction.

4. Separate yourself from negativity.

5. Align yourself with greatness.

6. Live your faith boldly.

7. Understand your worth.

8. Study money and make as much of it as possible.

If you’ve been following my platform for a while, hopefully you can see I am extremely committed to improving in every area of my life. Am I the best at improving in every area of my life? Not at all.

The older I get, the more I realize it is extremely difficult to get better with age in every area because of our human ability to become so habitually locked in on the habits that we have formed over the years.

I’m not the fastest to learn something new, neither am I the fastest to change my behaviors. However, I am extremely committed to learning how to consistently improve in small ways every day to ensure that all the time, I am truly getting a better.

No one may have shared those eight things with me very early on in my life, but I am now committed to them to the fullest. I’ve been teaching you should pursue the idea nothing missing, lacking or broken should be a part of who you are. My goal is to live a full, highly productive life, enjoying it in every area possible.

It’s my birthday month y’all! I’m going to celebrate it to the fullest!!!

As I shared, too many people are merely existing. The Lord is My Protector

I’m a believer. For more than 20 years I led a nonprofit Children’s Ministry where I assisted children around the world. I believe God created me for a purpose and has given me potential to bless humanity.

I don’t push my faith on anyone and my goal today is to simply encourage those of like faith to remember God is our protector and provider. These are challenging times for many people. Personally, it feels good to me to live my life based on Psalms 23.

“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” – Psalm 23 New International Version

I believe this scripture with my whole heart. When I was a young boy growing up in the Bahamas my grandmother made it mandatory we learn Psalms 23. Now at 44 years old, I look back over my life and I’m appreciative of the principles I’ve learned through leaning on this scripture in the Bible.

My friend, as you’re reading this, I want you to know the God who lives inside of you is greater than any evil force outside of you!

- He fights for you!

- He heals you!

- He delivers you!

- He blesses you!

- He gives you peace!

It’s important for you to establish this healthy belief that allows you to be able to navigate through these unpredictable days we are all experiencing.  You survived some stuff and now it’s time for you to declare that no weapon form against me shall prosper.

Declare with confidence: God is my protector.  Learn Psalms 23 for yourself and embrace the scripture as a foundational truth for you and your family. No matter what you’re going through, remind yourself you’ve got a protector.

When you change what you think and how you speak you change what you attract!

I have a challenge for you and I hope you will accept it. Mediate upon and decree this for 30 days:

Only good, wealth, abundance, peace, joy, success and prospering opportunities come to me in unprecedented and unexpected ways! I'm a daily recipient of them all!

Be True to You!

Resilience: An ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.

Resilience has been in my vocabulary a lot lately. The skill should be in everyone’s toolbox. With all that’s happening in our world I think it’s important for us to be resilient.

The world will try to bend, shape, and mold you into its image. Staying true to who you are requires the resiliency and determination to stand your ground and the willingness to take on any opponent. When you think of what I just said I want you to know that you’ve got to make this a commitment.

Our goal is effective living, establishing and maintaining the balance of faith, fitness, family, finances, and fun all with unlimited peace and satisfaction. Understanding that goal, being true to yourself is better than being a liar just to make everyone happy. I want to remind you to stay true to yourself and never lower your standards for anyone else.

Take the time to study who you are at your core. Don’t settle for what someone told you about yourself but discover the greatness that God has built into you.

As we mature, there’s great comfort in knowing we’re on our own. When you accept this truth, you become free! We can get to the point where we don’t have to worry about blaming anyone. We don’t have to wait for anyone to save us. We don't need anyone's approval to live our lives. It's all on us. God has given you the ability to create the life you desire…it’s all on you!

The ultimate freedom is in knowing - no one is coming to save me. The greatest freedom I have ever known is it's on ME.

It’s important you learn to live in a space that’s completely your own.

At 44 years old I’ve decided not to allow people to determine my value. I don’t waste time seeking the approval of others anymore. I don't expect everyone to understand me. I'm good with me. It took me a long time to get to this place of self acceptance.

I’m more resilient than I’ve ever been in my entire life. I’m still growing! I’m on a mission to get better with age but I am not in the business of trying to please people by losing myself.

The more you learn to enjoy your own company is when you realize you don’t need to prove yourself to anybody. We often explain and waste time with the wrong people, people who don’t even care to begin with at all. It’s time to grow up!

It’s very important for us to know ourselves. Know who you are, what you will tolerate, love yourself.

"To thine own self, be true." - William Shakespeare

Think about it: what's the worst thing that can happen if you just totally went for it? It took me decades to learn and observe the success and mistakes of my mentors, but what if you can speed up that process for you? Avoid the mistakes I made and get on the right track to success. Let me coach you. Attend my monthly webinars or enroll in my one-on-one coaching program.

Days Are Expensive

Your time is valuable and limited.  You get 24 hours in a day, just like everyone else. Don't waste those precious 24 hours living by someone else's rules and trying to please everyone! A day wasted is a day you’ll never have again. Waste your time and you waste your life. Today, I want to remind you days are truly are expensive.

You have no time to waste. Make your days count.

Don’t settle for what life gives you. Grab life by its collar and make it give you every blessing God reserved for you. You were not created to simply exist. You were created to thrive in this lifetime.

Be very deliberate with how you manage your time. Be intentional about who and what you give your time to. Realize, at the end of the day what you have acquired and accomplished, would have been in exchange for a portion of your life. So, get rid of those who are time wasters and activities that are time wasting activities and go after your dreams hard!

My friend, go ahead and dare to live the life of your dreams!

- Believe it!

- Behave it!

- Become it!

You have as much right to thrive, prosper, succeed, and pursue happiness as everyone else. Dream big! Use your days to make your presence self in the earth.

Remind yourself on a daily basis, all things are working together for your good. When you succeed give thanks. When you have those times where you fail, fall, or falter, know you will arise again with new strength. You will learn from all your mistakes and missteps. Seek the grace of God for an alternative strategy. Don’t live with regret and most certainly don’t waste your days.

Never turn your back on time because you can never get your time back.

Please stop procrastinating.

You never know when the end of your time will come. Time is a resource we will never get more of. Time is both a gift and currency; a slave and a master. Use time you have been given wisely. Don’t take it for granted.

Don't waste your time worrying or regretting. Make every hour, every minute, and every second count.  Maximize your potential and the potential hidden in every minute of your life.

Spend your time wisely!

As you acknowledge days are expensive, also acknowledge there are times we make excuses for why we are not maximizing our time. This month’s webinar will help you identify the excuses you have and provide practical steps to overcome them. Register today HERE.

Distance Yourself

You’re on a mission to create a life you don’t need to take a vacation from. I want to encourage you to pay close attention to the people who are in your life. Not everyone is for you. Many people don’t understand how to identify who is good for them and who’s not.

While growing up as a young man in the Bahamas I desperately wanted friends and I never evaluated what makes a good friend. Unfortunately as a young man I found myself connected to the wrong people and my future was almost ruined by engaging in dangerous activities.

Looking back now I realize I was a really needy kid and sought the approval of people more than taking the time to discover who I was created to be. For a long time, I struggled with low self-esteem. As a result, trying to fit in was a big deal for me.

At 44 years old, I’ve come to accept the fact that my association matters. I no longer want to associate myself with just anyone and everyone. There are a number of behaviors one should look for when choosing who they will associate with.

PLEASE pay close attention to those that are around you. Distance yourself from people who:

1. Lie to you

2. Disrespect you

3. Use you

4. Put you down.

There will be a lot of people who will not like the fact you’ve decided to live with such high standards. Somebody is upset with you right now for choosing peace over drama. When you choose proper behaviors and do the right thing in regards to living at peace with yourself and your Creator there, will be individuals who won’t like it.

I believe anyone that’s not interested in the best for you should not be in your inner circle. There are some people you just have to make the decision to distance yourself from. It will be the best decision you make in regards to securing a brighter future.

You also need to distance yourself from people who:

- Speak poorly about others

- Have problems for every solution

- Enjoy complaining

- Blame others for losing

- Take more than they give

- Make you feel bad about yourself

- Bully others

People who practice the above bad behaviors are people you do not want to be associated with.

In my pursuit to live life effectively I’ve come to pay attention to make sure I’m not practicing any of the above bad behaviors. You’ve got to ask yourself the question, “Am I a quality person to be associated with?” As you work to cleanup your inner circle and avoid people who have horrible practices make sure you’re not doing the things you’re saying are horrible that others are doing.

If you want a better life watch who you’re associated with on a daily basis. There are some people who are just not good for you. Learning to build up the courage to disconnect from toxic people is critical for effective living.

If you want to win in life and discover the limiting excuses people use on a daily basis from maximizing your potential, you should make plans now to join my upcoming webinar class, No More Excuses. It's 4 nights where we will be identifying excuses that are limiting you and providing pratical solutions on how to eliminate them so you can maximize your goals. Are We in a Recession?

The US entered a recession in February 2020 according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. It’s hard to believe the United States has been in a recession as far back as February of this year.

Economists had already projected that the US would enter a recession within a couple of years. The pandemic has amplified the financial crisis for the country.

Everything has seemingly been disrupted. 2020 will be a year for the record books in every area. The economy is in tatters, we are in the middle of a health crises, unemployment is on track to be at the highest level in history, the education system is crumbling around us. We are experiencing challenging times at a level we have not experienced in our lifetime.

What is a recession?

A recession is a period where you see a significant slowdown in national economic activity over the course of several months. It’s a time when consumers and businesses typically try to cut spending and costs in response to the economic uncertainty. In a recession, you tend to see a spike in unemployment, stock market losses, distress in various business sectors and falling interest rates.

Here are five ways to survive this recession:

1. Cut your spending.

2. Get a realistic budget.

3. Create an emergency fund.

4. Pay off your debts.

5. Prove how valuable you are to your workplace.

It is possible for you to not only survive this recession but also to thrive. Everyone is not going to suffer during this recession. Even though we’re in the midst of a global pandemic, there are people who understand they can strategically do what is necessary to set themselves up to end this year strong.

Start becoming intentional about everything you do moving forward. Look at every area of your life and ask yourself how can you better position yourself to win despite all that’s happening in our world.

- Are we in a recession? Yes!

- Can you thrive in a recession? Yes!

- Are you destined to win? Yes!

- Are you a survivor? Yes!

- Will you come out of 2020 stronger? Yes!

Make this declaration: This recession is not going to stop me. Success is a choice, even in the midst of a recession.

Every weekday at 6:30 a.m., I share principles for Effective Living, the balance of faith, fitness, family, finances, and fun all with unlimited peace and satisfaction. Be sure to like my Facebook page, Effective Living with Ricardo Miller, and turn on your notifications to join me live.

Our next webinar, "No More Excuses", is coming up soon. Life will give you many excuses why you CAN’T. You only need one good reason why YOU CAN. Living effectively demands that you push yourself beyond the excuses. Go the extra mile. Push yourself!

The only person who is truly holding you back is you. It's time to change. It's time to live life at a NEW LEVEL! Register today for the webinar, HERE.

Do What You Are Called to Do

You’ve got something to offer the world! Your existence is evidence that your purpose is necessary. Not everyone is going to believe in you and that’s okay.

You are on a mission to create a life you don’t need to take a vacation from. In order to get what you have never had, you’re going to have to do what you’ve never done before.

The principles you are learning through my weekly blog or from my latest book, Effective Living: Your Guide to Creating a Life You Don’t Need to Take a Vacation From, won’t work until you understand action on your part is required. You don’t become consistent until you are consistent. You don’t become disciplined until you are disciplined. You don’t become resilient until you are resilient. When you take action by applying these principles you are learning, you will put yourself on an intended journey to maximize your purpose.

Too many people think the life they want is just going to fall in their lap. You need to get this in your head: no one is coming to save you. No one is going to give you handouts. You really have to put in the work! If it were easy EVERYONE would do it.

Please do what you are called to do, knowing…

- Not everyone will understand

- Not everyone will approve

- Not everyone will applaud

- Not everyone will affirm

- Not everyone will celebrate

- Not everyone will support

- Not everyone will stay

- Not everyone will encourage

REGARDLESS, DO WHAT YOU ARE CALLED TO DO!

Don’t focus on what you can’t do today. Do the things you can do. If we spend all our time thinking about what we have lost, we will not see what we have in our hands right now. God works with what we have, not with what we don’t have. The miracle is in your hands. If nobody supports you, you’ve got to be committed to putting in the work for yourself.

It takes strength, courage, tenacity, resilience, endurance, faith, hope and love to fulfill your calling. There is no easy path. You will encounter disappointment, failure, discouragement, hurt, betrayal, and loss, but if you keep going you will eventually win.

Remind yourself, “circumstances don’t determine my calling.” The challenge is to remain faithful as the conditions in which we work out our calling are constantly changing. An ever-changing environment does not change the calling. It’s up to us to do the hard work of fulfilling our calling wherever we are.

As you reflect on these words, I want you to remember that it is still possible for you to get some incredible results in 2020. You need to make a commitment to put in the work to make sure the rest of this year becomes the best of this year.

One way to facilitate maximizing what you are called to do is get a copy of my latest book, Effective Living: Your Guide to Create the Life You Don’t Need to Take a Vacation From . Also consider going a step further and enrolling in my coaching program. Find out more information here.

How to Start Your Day

During a preparation season it’s really important to do just that – prepare. It is imperative for you to understand that preparation is vital to effective living. If you don’t take the time to prepare during preparation you won’t be ready for opportunities when they present themselves.

It’s impossible for you to learn to live life effectively and not also learn how to manage your days well. How you start your day is going to determine your productivity level within your given 24 hours.

Morning routines are some of the most discussed habit improvements when it comes to effective living. Habits are easier to implement if they are stacked on top of some other activity or other habits. One thing we do every day is wake up.

For this reason, it can be easier to implement a new morning habit. You know the exact trigger for your new habit. Over the past two years I’ve been studying morning rituals and I’ve identified certain things that will help you start your day off well.

Better morning routines can improve your whole day, giving you and your day good momentum.

So let’s consider different ways you can get a better start to your day. Some are small things you can implement immediately, whereas others are habits you can build up slowly for a better you. My advice to you is to try to implement one habit at a time.

START YOUR DAY BY:

- Getting up early and at the same time everyday

- Reviewing your daily goals and/or to-do list

- Drinking water and eating healthy

- Going for a run or walk

- Taking a cold shower

- Connecting with the right people

- Staying informed and up-to-date

This list may seem long and I don’t do all of these every morning. However, I always do some of these things and I have different periods of time where I focus more on one or the other. I believe in small baby steps. Choose whatever feels most beneficial for you, where you are in your life at this moment.

One day at a time, decide to incorporate these early morning practices and watch your life change for the better. Don’t look at this list and become overwhelmed. Decide and commit that you’re on a mission. This is not a destination; it is a journey.

I remind all my coaching clients to continuously create new habits. I recommend you start small, focusing more on consistency, doing a little bit each day. Your goal should be to get better with age and improve in every area of your life.

If you haven’t been watching my weekday early morning Facebook LIVE motivational videos you could be missing out. Go ahead and put on your notification and allow these 15 to 20-minute messages to motivate and challenge you to stay focused as you work on improving every area of your life. You can watch each weekday morning at 6:30 a.m. HERE. Also, go ahead and get registered now for September’s webinar, No More Excuses , where we will go deeper into identifying and eliminating the excuses and help you on your journey to create a life you don’t need to take a vacation from.
