Mental Illness Is Real
It really frustrates me when individuals think depression is a result of one bad day or even a week. It’s not a joke for anyone’s fantasies or private stories. It’s a real issue that so many people wake up battling daily.
In a world full of self-centered, opportunistic, ungrateful, mean-spirited, and unappreciative people, I want to take the time to let you know you are loved.
Depression and sadness are real and effect the lives of many people. If we are not careful, we can get stuck in a negative head space and our days can become longer and sadder leading to withdrawal.
In my research I discovered that...
- Depression is being lonely in a room full of people
- Depression is being constantly tired but never able to sleep
- Depression is smiling to keep the tears from falling
- Depression is when the soul dies but the body keeps on going
- Depression is forgetting who you used to be.
Weeks ago I had the opportunity to speak with a lady at my gym who suffers from depression. During our conversation she stated that, “Real depression is when you stop loving the things you love.”
I’m dedicating this week’s blog to everyone who suffers from depression. I totally understand that depression is real.
Those of you reading this please, check up on people around you. Looking good on the outside does not mean they are not suffering on the inside. Some people are literally surrounded by many people yet still alone.
I’m praying for everyone who is wrestling with the spirit of heaviness. I know depression is real. I also know it is not bigger than my God. Jesus promises us rest for our heavy hearts and peace for our intrusive thoughts.
Please continue to lean on and trust in Him. I promise you it won’t always be like this. Better days are coming!
- Tell yourself, ‘It won’t always be like this.’
- Get out of the bed, even if you do not feel like it.

It Doesn't Matter
Where you come from doesn’t matter. Where your family comes from doesn’t matter. Your ethnic background nor your economic class doesn’t matter. Your past doesn’t even matter. Perhaps all of that has been great. You may have had a leg up. However, if any of it has been challenging and difficult, you have shown to have more drive than others to change the way you lead your life. That single attribute will make you surpass people with even the biggest “advantage” over you.
Years ago when I first started public speaking, most people underestimated my drive and determination to become a nationally recognized leader my field. Many people will look at you, what you’ve been through, where you come from, and will judge you based on their limited view of who they think you are.
That is so unfortunate! You are so much more than what you’ve been through! You are so much more than what you have become so far!
What truly matters is how you learn from what has already happened in your life and how committed you are RIGHT NOW to achieving your goals. No matter how much privilege you are born into, if you don’t have the drive to take control of your life, then you will limit yourself.
Trust me when I say that maximum success will find you when you find the motivation to work relentlessly toward your goals. Until then, your success will be limited.
It doesn’t matter where you come from. It doesn’t matter where you start. It’s about us growing and learning things so we can move forward.
In July 2019, I launched Effective Living Life Management Agency to help people learn how to maximize their potential. In the span of a year we have helped more than 24,000 people open their eyes to the concept of intentional living.
As you move forward, it is critical that you surround yourself with brilliance. Surround yourself with people who intellectually, psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually inspire you. Allow other people's strengths to elevate you to a transcendent level.
You need 5 types of people around you:
- The Encourager
- The Dreamer
- The Truth Teller
- The Action Taker
- The Believer
One of the best ways to accomplish something great is to surround yourself with people who have the same goals and aspirations. It doesn’t matter how you started, all that matters now is that you’re going to surround yourself with quality people as you pursue living your life effectively.

Develop Your Inner Strength
If there is one thing you can count on in this world it is inconsistency. The journey of life is always a series of ups and downs. Challenges come and become obstacles. Opportunities become triumphs. The one constant is you, and how you deal with changes. If you are weak inside, you will be battered about like a rowboat in a hurricane. But those who cultivate inner strength will be able to weather any storm and can travel great distances at great speeds when the seas are calm.
In your pursuit to live life effectively, know you are going to be challenged. I have established Effective Living Life Management Agency to help you. My goal in life is to help as many as people as possible live life more effectively.
Life will deliver you some blows, knocking you off balance with a weakening confusion and a total loss of how to get your shaking, bruised feet back under you again. During those moments when this BOOM feels the strongest, it can leave you feeling paralyzed from your head to toe including your soul. You cannot even remember what it feels like to be “normal”. Have you ever felt that way before?
My greatest successes have come when I used my inner power to make the most of the good times. And when times were rough, ultimately it was a strong inner core that got me through the worst. With God on your side you can tune up your inner strength with a few key exercises, just as you would your body.
Here are some tips:
1 Saying sorry
2 Wanting to learn
3 Daring not to fit in
4 Admitting you were wrong
5 Meeting the needs of others
6 Allowing someone to help you
7 Recognizing someone else’s success
8 Being open to a different point of view
It is inspiring to know that you really can do something to make yourself stronger. God our Creator has given us the ability to strengthen ourselves to survive life‘s greatest challenges.
Since part of survival is accepting that you cannot change outside circumstances or people, it is imperative to accept and feel empowered by the realization that you can transform yourself. It is a superpower!
Through my one-on-one coaching program I have been teaching my coaching clients how to strengthen themselves from the inside out. Most people have not been taught how to strengthen themselves to ensure that they can navigate through life’s greatest test.
I have a few openings available in my one-on-one coaching program. Click HERE for more information.
Our Ugly Truth sessions are live at 6:30 a.m. (central standard time) every weekday morning on Facebook and our monthly webinars are offering tips and strategies in various areas for you to develop your inner self. Join me! Like Effective Living with Ricardo Miller on Facebook to join me HERE. Also, be sure to register for our monthly webinar sessions. Our August class, Make That Money is coming up quickly. Self-Care is Critical for Effective Living!
When you pay adequate attention to your well-being, you're not considering just your personal needs. You're reinvigorating yourself so that you can be the best version of yourself for the people around you. Everyone around you also benefits from the renewed energy and joy you exhibit.
I’m on a mission to help all who are reading this blog to raise your standards in life. You know you are destined for more but in order for you to give more you have to become more.
You’ve got to get to the point where you become selfish before you can be selfless. Please remember, you can’t take care of anything until you take care of yourself first. It doesn't mean you become indecent. That’s not what I’m saying at all. Stay true to you, do the right thing, but take care of yourself.
Once again please remember self-care is critical for Effective Living!
There is no success until you fall in love with yourself. Difficult to do when you are fascinated by someone else or have been conditioned to put everyone else first before your own well-being. I need you to respect others. I need you to learn from others. Just don’t compare and don’t diminish yourself in the process.
In your pursuit to take better care of yourself here are 10 things you should be doing:
▪Go for a walk or run.
▪Spend quality time with your family.
▪Spend more time outside.
▪Eat right.
▪Learn a new skill.
▪Quit negative habits.
▪Practice gratitude.
▪Remove toxic friends.
▪Love yourself.
▪Spend some alone time.
The world is a mirror. What you show the world is what the world will show you. The energy you put out is the energy you will receive. You reap what you sow. What you give is what you get. If you don’t take care of you nobody else will do it for you.
The harsh truth is that your life is exactly how you want it to be. If you wanted it to be any different, it would be different. Stop complaining about your life and start doing something about it. Start taking care of you!!!
Nobody is born to shrink down. You came to this planet to grow, to blossom, to succeed. Quit complaining. Apply the tips I just provided. Get on it and never stop taking care of you.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Which of the three out of ten things above do you need to do more of in regard to taking better care of yourself?
Be sure to order my latest book, Effective Living: Your Guide to Creating a Life You Don't Need to Take a Vacation From for even more information about living life effectively!

Elbow Grease Isn't for Sale
Please note that all potential means is you haven’t accomplished anything yet or you haven’t reached your capacity. Everyone has potential. Everyone talks about their potential. However, until you take action to maximize your potential, the word is irrelevant and has no meaning.
Potential is often a sales pitch for motivational speakers. It is something they remind you of because again, everybody has potential. The work that is necessary to be put in to becoming a success or reaching your potential is never on sale.
Growing up in the Bahamas, I had a boss who would often say, “Elbow grease isn’t for sale.” In other words, you’re going to have to put in the work.
No one can define what success is to you. No one can determine your level of success. No one can determine what happiness means to you. No one can convey what brings peace to you. You’re going to have to put in the work!
Don't allow yourself to live by someone else’s definitions. Don’t let anyone define your life. It’s time for you to get to work on creating the life you desire.
It's amazing what can be achieved when you eliminate dysfunction. Avoid the negativity of others and focus on your goals. Reject the cynicism of society and keep moving forward. Eliminate gossip and laziness and strive for excellence. Focus on your potential. Put in the work in order for you to be successful.
This week I’m hosting my NO MORE EXCUSES LIFE MANAGEMENT CLASSES starting Wednesday through Saturday. It’s going to be four nights of virtual classes that will help individuals learn how to live beyond the various excuses that have a tendency of keeping them back.
If you keep doing the same thing you’ll keep getting the same result. You’ve got to want it really bad in order for you to change your life for the better.
Make the investment in your future today and register for these upcoming classes (HERE). The information you will receive is going to help you to make the rest of this year the best of this year.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What do you believe is hindering you from putting in the work?

Take Control of Your Life
I want to remind you, you should be on a mission to take full control of your life. In your pursuit to take this, don’t change who you are to make someone feel better about themselves. People’s insecurities can never be eased by someone else. The issues that people have can never be resolved by being untrue to who you are. Your goal is for you to work on you!
Remember it is emotionally and psychologically unhealthy to rely on the praise or criticism of others to determine how you feel about yourself. It’s all about you versus you. People’s opinions of you should never determine or shape your opinion of yourself.
Look at the problems in your life and break them down if necessary. Simply talking about things never changes anything nor will it get anything accomplished. Start acting on what needs to be resolved, fixed, and / or changed in your life.
The one constant variable in every situation is you. The reason people have a hard time identifying their problem is because they refuse to acknowledge that in most situations and scenarios, they are the problem. You’ve got to change that position.
Take control of your life or have somebody else take control of it for you.
This week I had a strong conversation with my son. I shared he can choose not to deal with reality; however, he cannot make the mistake in believing that reality will not deal with him. I reminded him that he can create the life he desires on his terms or he can find himself in a position where others are directing his life without any serious interest of it benefiting him.
Every day I’m challenging people through my various platforms to stop blaming other people for their lack of success and to take control of their life. Make sure you are following me on my social media pages, specifically on Facebook where Monday through Friday I have an Ugly Truth show live at 6:30am.
