GODZILLA AND THE TITANS coming to Apple TV+.

Guess that’s a decent excuse to keep my subscription, then: “Apple TV+ and Legendary Television are producing a live-action series titled Godzilla and the Titans, and the first five members of the cast have been announced. That cast includes Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.” Not that I know who any of those people are, mind you. But then, I’m just there to see them scurry around Godzilla’s feet while the Big Guy* is doing stuff.

I feel that the current détente is best for everyone concerned, and I wish Kong well in his new position, but I am firmly on Team Godzilla.

07/01/2022 Snippet, 2084.

That’s a working title.

It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.

…Which took forever, not least because none of the bell towers agreed with each other. Jim was in fact certain that one of the damn things had chimed fourteen times. He wondered how long it would take the Restoration to change all the clocks back. It was probably low-priority for whatever committee was handling it. When you were trying to put a country back together, little things like irregular chiming probably didn’t loom very large. Even when the chiming was, to imitate the locals, bloody annoying.

A knock on his door pulled him out of his slightly put-upon reverie. “Come in!” Jim said, looking up. It was his secretary Doris, and he blinked at her slightly cringing expression. The locals weren’t supposed to look that scared anymore.

“Sir James? You have a visitor. From the Crown,” she added before Jim could remind her that he was not in fact a knight. “Major Alexandra Spencer. She needs to see you.”

“Did she say it was urgent?” Jim repressed a frown at Doris’s brief flicker of panic. “Even agents of the Crown are supposed to explain themselves, Doris. You don’t have to jump when the Restoration says ‘frog.’” Jim was proud at how he uttered that not-quite-a-lie with nary a bobble. After all, it wasn’t quite a lie. At least not in this office. Out in the wilds of post-occupation Britain, things were still a little more hierarchical.

Tweet of the Day, Just Not… Talk About It On The Internet? edition.

I share Gabe’s sense of wonder. And I barely get a rounding error’s worth of the backtalk that Penny Arcade must rack up.

I’m not going to talk about this comic here:https://t.co/yMn2RSgqEJ#pennyarcade

The SEE HOW THEY RUN trailer.

SEE HOW THEY RUN looks fun. It also has Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan in it, and I like both of them*. Of course, I still have yet to sit down and watch KNIVES OUT. Maybe this weekend…

*Yes, I have seen LITTLE WOMEN. I go to see LITTLE WOMEN every time a new version of it is in theaters. What’s it to you?

THE INVITATION trailer.

I am a little disappointed in THE INVITATION trailer. It’s practically blinking DO YOU WANT TO SEE SOME VAMPIRES? in giant, carmine-red letters. I was hoping for a little more subtlety, and a lot less of the plot arc. But such is the nature of trailers. At least there’s all that repressed eroticism going on.

PS: I am letting the implied class/social commentary slide. All vampire stories have class and/or social commentary in them. You can’t escape it, so it’s like getting upset at July for being 95 degrees out. What were you expecting, a blizzard?

Russell Crowe to star in exorcist biopic.

That’s me, hedging my bets: “Russell Crowe Set To Star in a Supernatural Horror Thriller THE POPE’S EXORCIST.” Or possibly just managing my expectations. A biopic where there’s never anything overtly, unambiguously supernatural going on could still be pretty dang good, especially if Crowe’s playing the part of the exorcist. Indeed, you could even argue that this is the proper way to portray the life of real-life Vatican exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth.

But who am I kidding? I want clouds of brimstone, hot women impossibly crawling on the ceiling while hissing, and balefire erupting from cracks on the ground while Crowe’s yelling in Latin. I’m not ashamed of being a Philistine. Never have been, really. Besides, when you start with the title THE POPE’S EXORCIST, you’re kind of promising something that can live up to such a rocking title.

There is a mysterious rocket body crater on the moon.

Somebody should go and take a closer look at it. …And pretty soon, we should actually be able to. We are so tantalizingly close to actually having rocketships…

After a rocket body impacted the Moon last year, NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was able to snap a surprising view of the impact site. Unexpectedly, the crater is actually two craters and may indicate that the rocket body had large masses at each end: https://t.co/WtMAFrNkUw pic.twitter.com/hcoYPxlm8z
