Book of the Week: Isolate: A Novel in the Grand Illusion.
I’m still trying to figure out if I like L.E. Modesitt’s Isolate: A Novel in the Grand Illusion. It’s gaslamp psionics (some people can project emotions; some people are really susceptible to that, others are totally immune), mixed with political intrigue. But our hero… takes meetings. On things like guild complaints that fine arts products are being classified as cookware, in order to avoid a higher import tariff. This isn’t exactly riveting stuff.
On the other hand, I like Modesitt’s writing style, and the world is promising to be sliding into interesting times. So, there’s that.

Second and third wave of TINSEL RAIN books away!
‘Second wave’ being the big orders and ‘third wave’ being various comp copies of TINSEL RAIN. Everything left over is a they-haven’t-done-their-survey situation, but that’s fine. Usually there’s a few who don’t, and I can just nag and nag and nag until they get around to it.
But the books are on their way! Some are even showing up as having been shipped, so you should start seeing your signed copies next week. Huzzah!

John Williams will retire from doing movie scores.
I would like to be upset, but I can’t think of a single way to be so without also being a jackass: “During an interview with The Associated Press, the legendary film composer revealed his plan to bow out after the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel.” John Williams is 90 years old. The article notes that he’d like to work on his own stuff. His awards shelves are probably made out of reinforced titanium. I named the opera house in FROZEN DREAMS after him. What on earth does he possibly have left to prove?

First wave of TINSEL RAIN books get mailed today!
Since it promises to be such a quiet day today, I figure I’ll go out this morning and mail out most of the TINSEL RAIN books. I’ve got a bunch of big orders that need boxes*, so I can pick some up while I’m at the post office. Then I can process them tonight, and get the rest out tomorrow.
And that will pretty much handle the physical component of the Kickstarter. I do have secondary digital rewards that need finishing, but that’s a relatively straightforward process. The thing everybody’s waiting on is TINSEL RAIN itself.

“Easy: you mess with the reagents keeping the stasis going. See this?” ‘This’ was several long IV lines, filled orange-brown liquid. “It’s normally supposed to be bio-luminescent green. Whoever messed with it disabled the door, too.” Ward gave a disgusted sound. “So many of the doors are on manual by now anyway, we didn’t catch on until it was too late.”
Tobias cursed. “And we didn’t have security cameras on the victim, because we got the guy who tried to kill him, right? Why bother?”
