07/20/22 Patreon Pledge Drive.
I put up a little bit more from DUTY OF MIRRORS (open access!) because I thought I was creatively blocked this week. Turns out I just wanted to write more of that chapter. Now that I have, maybe I can get back to the other projects I have to do.

Today is the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
A great achievement for my country, and all of humanity. A glorious moment in history. And it was responsible for two utterly satisfying bits of video footage.

The HULK VS. THOR Honest Trailer.
No, of course nobody asked for this. There’s a reason why HULK VS. THOR was languishing in whatever digital oubliette that Honest Trailers found it in. But as long as none of us actually have to watch it, we should be all right.
In the E-Mail: THE DAUGHTER OF DOCTOR MOREAU.
I like Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s stuff: she has a feel for gothic-style horror that intrigues. It also turns out that Mexico is fertile territory for the kinds of books that she writes, which is also nice. I’m looking forward to taking my time and enjoying THE DAUGHTER OF DOCTOR MOREAU (I assume that nobody here needs to guess what the novel’s about?).

So, smoke started billowing from my car this afternoon.
Which is, by the way, an amazing way to get the McDonald’s drive-thru line to clear out ahead of you. Anyway, nothing exploded, and turning the heat all the way up cooled down the engine enough for me to get the car home. On the other hand, I was exposed enough to have my eyes start watering, and I took an immediate nap for a couple of hours, so I’ve decided to run at reduced capacity for the rest of the day. In a little bit I’ll go look at the car and figure out what happened.
On the gripping hand, I suspect that what happened is going to be expensive, possibly to the point where my car guy’s gonna remind me that he buys them. This may still be a great time to sell a car, but by definition it’d also be a bad time to sell one. Which reminds me: I sell books, and I have a Patreon…

Patreon!He never admitted it afterward, but Jim was as surprised as anyone else at the sudden bubbling, and extremely unpleasant, howl of pain. He started moving as soon as he heard it, though; unless that shot had gone through all four people, the remaining three would be extremely pissed at him. There was indeed another burst of fire, and another bubbling scream. But it was coming from inside the smoke, so thankfully not from Alex.
Jim kept moving, keeping his breath steady and his awareness wide, just like from training. You see more than you know, his combat instructors had told his class. You hear more, too. But if you try to force yourself to see and hear everything you can, you end up blind, deaf, and dead. Just let all the data flow over you. Feel the pattern. Then shoot anything that’s not part of it.
And then there was something in the pattern. Jim put two in its center, one more on the ground where it had fallen, and kept moving through the now-thinning smoke. Whatever it was down there – and hopefully it wasn’t a civilian – could wait until Alex.
The live-action POWERPUFF GIRLS is dead. Long live the McCracken POWERPUFF GIRLS.
Assuming that this doesn’t crash and burn, too.
Stop the presses! The Powerpuff Girls are coming back! No, we’re not talking about The CW’s live-action modern take that crashed and burned (though apparently the concept is still in development). We’re talking about animated series creator Craig McCraken (Wander Over Yonder, Kid Cosmic) developing a reboot of the series (as well as one for Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends) for Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. Viewers will get to revisit the world of Blossom, Bubbles & Buttercup as they face off against a variety of villains comprised of familiar foes and new threats.
I used the word “too” because Bleeding Cool was being accurate about what happened to the live-action. The pilot episode did not go over well with the studio, and the actress who played Blossom in the pilot has moved onto other things. I don’t know if POWERPUFF is formally in Development Hell right now, but it’s almost certainly getting puzzled looks by the Virtuous Pagans in Limbo.

PS: I had a buddy who could do a pitch-perfect Mojo Jojo impression indefinitely. I should check in with him, see how he’s doing. I mean, I see him on Facebook and he’s fine, but still…
