Day 27

Great news! The Naughty Book Kitties posted the first review of Forget You , and they think it is better than Going Too Far ! You know how I love Going Too Far, but you always want your current book to be as good as or better than your previous book. Otherwise people will start saying, Jennifer Echols? I think she wrote one good book a long time ago, but now she just writes crap. She moved to central Florida and spends her days chain-smoking and drinking appletinis. She scares children with her...

Whoops!

My critique partner and 2008 Golden Heart Finalist [info:] cchant has committed to some OTHER writing challenge in which she is writing 1 scene per day. She made the mistake of telling me about it, and now she needs to come here today, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and post about what she has done and earn a parade. That's not very long, but by Saturday I think she'll be back in the groove for this extremely awesome new book she's writing.

Lesson learned: love shame, OR don't be my critique partner,...

Day 26

Hey, [info:] whojackman started reading Forget You and she likes it okay.

In other news...

During April I am finishing the proofs of Forget You (CHECK!), dealing with the ARCs (CHECK!), and writing 40,000 words (yeah, probably not).

Yesterday I said I would do Worksheets and write 1666. I did Worksheets and wrote 1673. I am full of win! And I also have a pretty good marching band halftime show.

Today I will write 1666.

And I will look forward to Saturday, when all this will be over. On Saturday I will sho...

Days 23, 24, and 25

During April I am finishing the proofs of Forget You (CHECK!), dealing with the ARCs (CHECK!), and writing 40,000 words.

I said I would write 11,225 over the weekend and I failed miserably. I wrote 3703.

On the bright side, on Sunday morning I wrote the ending (I don't write in order, obviously) and it is brilliant. In fact, for the rest of the day I wore sunglasses so that I would not blind myself if I happened to glimpse myself in a window. That is how brilliant I am.

Today I am tired of faili...

Day 22 and National Day of Whining

In April I am...ARGH!

Yesterday I was supposed to write 3135 and I wrote 1315! POO!

Normally this would be a pretty good word count for me and I would be proud. It's just because of this damn Public Shame Writing Challenge that it is FAIL.

*huff huff huff*

Okay. Let's step back and look at this. I don't do writing challenges all the time. It's only for April. And I've had huge things going on in April. If I didn't have you chicks looking over my shoulder, I would have written a LOT less this mont...

Day 21

During April I am finishing the proofs of Forget You (CHECK!), dealing with the ARCs (CHECK!), and writing 40,000 words.

Yesterday I said I would write 500 and I wrote 503. Woo.

Today I'm writing 3135 because that's how many I need to write each day to meet my word goal in April. I know, that seems really hard, but that's why we're doing a Public Shame Writing Challenge, right? So we don't sit on the couch and eat chocolate chip cookies and watch Mythbusters? It was a rerun last night anyway.

Ta...

Day 20

My good news of the day: A book blogger named Christina e-mailed me to say she'd read the ARC of Forget You , and she loved it. Now, of course I love my book, and I love Doug, and I feel really terrible about what I did to him (if you ever put your adorable hero on crutches for an entire book, you will feel terrible too), but that doesn't mean other people will love it. So I was very gratified to hear this from Christina. No matter what happens when this book is released on July 20, there was ...

THE CINDERELLA SOCIETY

What's a girl to do when the glass slipper fits, but she doesn't want to wear it anymore?

Sixteen year old Jess Parker has always been an outsider. So when she receives an invitation to join The Cinderella Society, a secret society of the most popular girls in school, it's like something out of a fairy tale. Swept up by the Cindys' magical world of makeovers, and ca...

Day 19

Uhhhh. I was gonna write 2500 and I only wrote 1657.

Today I am going to write 500 and Think Very Hard.

Tip for all of you who are hating your books. This is from the companion book to NaNoWriMo, No Plot? No Problem!: A Low-Stress, High-Velocity Guide to Writing a Novel in 30 Days by Chris Baty. He says before you start, you should list 10 things you love in a novel. For me, some of these would be the forced proximity plot (a couple thrown together), fake marriage or fake dating, and falling fo...

Days 16, 17, and 18

More good news on Friday: Going Too Far is a finalist in the National Readers' Choice Awards ! I am so excited! My friend Kelley St. John won this award in 2006. Then in 2007, when we were both finalists, she told me if you win, you get a TOMBSTONE! I said, "Kelley, come on now, you do not get a TOMBSTONE." Sure enough.

Gosh, was my hair ever that short?

During April I am finishing the proofs of Forget You (CHECK!), dealing with the ARCs (CHECK!), and writing 40,000 words of the new novel.

On Fri...
