Day 2

In April I am going over the proofs of Forget You , dealing with the ARCs, and writing 40,000 words of the New Novel with the Unbearably Brilliant Title of Extreme Secrecy.

Yesterday I intended to proof 100 pages. I proofed...NADA!

Remember, no excuses. I am just lame.

Today I am going to proof 150 pages, and I really need to get on it because I have yet to hit my goal in my own Public Shame Writing Challenge.

Post a comment here with the following info:

Your name (or web handle, or whatever)

Day 1: Let's make this easier

Here's how to play Public Shame Writing Challenge.

Post a comment here with the following info:

Your name (or web handle, or whatever)

How much you are going to write in April, total

How much you intended to write yesterday (April 1)

How much you actually wrote yesterday (April 1)

How much you are going to write today (April 2)

Various boasts about your own writing and jabs at other writers, particularly Nanette, since she is such a trash talker herself

And then go and write! A lot! And come back tom...

Day 1

I intended to proof 100 pages of Forget You but I proofed only 30. I have great excuses but nothing that rises to the occasion of being a Fancy Author. I think it should be a rule of the Public Shame Writing Challenge that we do not provide excuses. Nobody cares that your boss kept sending you wheelchair articles to copyedit, or that you had difficulty with your pipes (Carla).

LET THE SHAME BEGIN.

I would say that I'm going to proof 170 pages today to make up for yesterday, but come on. So I'm ...

Shame goes live! No fooling!

It's the first day of April, and you know what that means. All that boasting we did in late March about how much we were going to write starting today...today we have to do it. Carla, Naima, Jeanie and Callie, I expect you back here tomorrow to report in on how much you wrote today. Latecomers are welcome to join us! Personally, I received my page proofs for Forget You yesterday, and I'll report in on how much I got done. I need to finish that before I start on my 40,000 words for the month. ...

Shame is good for you

My local writers' group, Southern Magic , threw me a sweet celebration on Saturday for my RITA final with Going Too Far. You can see the pics at the MTV Books Blog .

Now it's back to work, and I mean it this time. Last month I tried to get a lot of work done on my MTV Books release for next year, and I banded together with some friends so we could keep tabs on each other. But I really think I need a more public shame in order to be productive.

Therefore, I am pledging to write 40,000 words on thi...

GOING TOO FAR finaled in the Ritas!!!

If you are a romance fan, you are saying, "WOW!" If you are not, you are saying, "It whatted in the who?"

The Ritas are named after the first president of Romance Writers of America, Rita Clay Estrada, and they are the biggest, bestest thing that can happen you as a romance writer besides good sales, bundles of money, and kind e-mail from readers. About 1,000 books compete in 12 categories and are judged by other published authors. So being ranked as a finalist by my romance writing peers = AF...

Down for the count

I am sorry to say that Going Too Far did not get past the first round in the Dear Author Bitchery Writing Award for Hellagood Authors . Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson caught me in a half nelson in the first five seconds and would NOT let me go. But I am so grateful to the Smart Bitches for nominating me and to all of you for voting for me, and I'm sure this crick in my neck will go away soon.

Meanwhile...you are so sweet to tell me you've read all my books and to ask for recommendations for ...

THE UNWRITTEN RULE

Everyone knows the unwritten rule: You don't like your best friend's boyfriend.

Sarah has had a crush on Ryan for years. He's easy to talk to, supersmart, and totally gets her. Lately it even seems like he's paying extra attention to her. Everything would be perfect except for two things: Ryan is Brianna's boyfriend, and Brianna is Sarah's best friend.

Sarah forces herself...

March Madness! Sort of.

I'm astonished and grateful that Dear Author and Smart Bitches have included Going Too Far in the 2010 DABWAHAs. It's like a basketball bracket in which 64 books are pitted against each other, and if you guess the winner, there are all sorts of wonderful prizes for readers! I think this is the last day to register, so check it out at http://dabwaha.com .

World tour

Hey, remember when I told my editor I was huge in Malaysia and he did not believe me? And then I was so proud when a reader in Finland sent me a picture from Tampere?

Well, now I am huge in the U.K.! Of course Carla at the Crooked Shelf posted her review of The Boys Next Door a few weeks ago, and now she has kindly hosted an interview with me . And she recommended the book to her friend Jenny at Wondrous Reads , who has posted her own review. Thank you to my friends across the pond!

Next stop, Li...
