Gunny excerpt part II

This is part of a book I should have coming out in the next couple of months. It focuses on the Grafton family, Gunny, Melody and a yet to be announced character. In this scene, which is one of Gunny’s stories in the book, the team has been called in to locate a man who is missing. They find his estranged wife holding him hostage. You can check out the first part here.

“I’ll take over from here,” the Sheriff said, reaching for the baby.

“I don’t think you will, Sheriff,” Melody said, st...

In this scene, which is one of Gunny’s stories in the book, the team has been called in to locate a man who is missing. They find his estranged wife holding him hostage.

Melody Grafton stepped around the decrepit, old metal shed that had blocked her from view of the dilapidated mobile home.  She’d unstrapped her shoulder holste...

And on Vocal…

Vocal.Media is a writing platform. they have everything from fiction to non-fiction to poetry. Posts are between 600 and 5000 words, with most of the contests limiting to 2000 words. And that is the draw there for me… contests. I have entered Lucinda’s Choice, First Date Again, Widow’s Walk, Trapped in the Closet, among others. The other draw is that they pay for reads (it takes a LOT of reads to make any money, though). Read More

I have actually knocked out a variety of posts on Vocal...

The Call excerpt

This is a new excerpt from The Call (working title). It is a new story in the Dixon-Prince saga, taking place now, rather than 30 or 40 years ago. The primary characters this time are Colt, Amy and Jack’s 21 year old son, and Caroline, the 18 year old daughter of one of Jack’s old girlfriends. There are some other excerpts on the blog that help explain why they are together, but in this clip, they are running.

The speedometer in the Mustang was well past buried.  It went to one-twenty, a...

Jenny’s Death Star II

This is an excerpt… the second half of the first chapter of a work in progress with the working title of Jenny’s Death Star. She is an overworked geek that loves her job and is about to find herself in trouble. Several people around her are not what they appear.

She finished up and examined herself in the mirror as she washed her hands.  She pushed her cat-eye glasses up the bridge of her nose again and brushed back a few strands of hair.  She had to admit that the red dress Cory had pull...

Sometimes They’re Bad

I have just finished a bad book… I mean REALLY bad. Horrible. Read More

Since reading on Kindle and upping the amount of reading I do, I have moved into the realm of bargains. Not exclusively, but significantly. I have read a LOT of classics, everything from almost all of the OZ books, to a bunch of Mark Twain. Gulliver’s Travels and other classics have been in the mix.

The other thing I have read is a lot of free offerings… Kindle deals. Usually, but not always they are part of a...

Jenny’s Death Star I

That’s the working title of one of the books I’m currently in the process of writing. Here is the first part of the first chapter. The second part will be posted next Monday.

Jenny looked at her screen.  The cursor blinked on, off, on, off.  Over and over.  She shook her head, breaking the spell the cursor had put her under.

“Girl, you’ve been at that for at least sixteen hours.  You need to go get some dinner,” came the voice from behind her.Read More

She turned and looked at Cor...

Widow’s Walk

She Looked to the Sea

This is another contest entry for Vocal Media… and here is my profile link… And a link to the post on Vocal. I do get paid if you read it there… 6 tenths of a cent, so there’s that. I have some other content there as well.

Holly led me up the stairs to the widow’s walk on top of her house. It was our place to get away… or at least as far away as a pair of ninth graders were going to get. We liked to come up to the little structure built on top of the old house to...

First Date, Again

This was one of my contest entries on Vocal (link to my profile – note, I get paid almost two-thirds of a penny if you read it there). The challenge was to write about a first date involving a glass of Merlot. Aside from that, the rules were pretty wide open. Read it here… read it there… read it anywhere.

First Date, AgainForty years and a Life Later

She was the first girl he’d ever liked, and the first girl whose lips he’d tasted. When they were fourteen, she was the first girl w...

Ode to the Review

I read a lot. In fact, since I have started writing, I read even more. And a LOT of what I read is from independent authors… those hardy souls that make a go of it without the backing of a publishing house. And it isn’t easy. I fully recognize it… probably now much more than I did as I was writing that first book a year and a half ago. Read More

The publishing house has editors, cover designers, more editors, and reviewers. In fact, the main draw that publishing houses hit us with is “...
