Evergreen Gimlet

Energetic Alignment : Protection, Purification, Insight/Psychic Ability, New Beginnings

Sip in the seasonal, crisp winter flavors with this evergreen gimlet. As the name might suggest, this cocktail is inspired by the evergreen flavors that reign this time of year (in the northern hemisphere), as a sign of the ever-constant life and of renewal. Celebrating the Solstice – New Year time as a period of purification, this cocktail is packed with cleansing, protective, intuitive, healing, and positively renewing ingredients to cleanse away the year 2020 and usher in 2021 with positivity and success! Featuring the purifying, crisp flavors of juniper, rosemary, and bayleaf, with the uplifting hint of grapefruit and elderflower liqueur, this is a simply delicious concoction. You can choose to omit the quarter of grapefruit slice and/or elderflower liqueur. They add extra energies of positivity and healing for the new year, but you can still have a magically delicious cleansing cocktail without them!

Evergreen Gimlet

A crisp, refreshing herbal gimlet celebrating winter flavors, with rosemary, bay, grapefruit, and a tad of elderflower to cleanse away 2021 and celebrate new beginnings.

Ingredients1 large bay leaf1/4 of a slice grapefruit (optional)1/2 ounce simple syrup (preferably rosemary simple syrup – see note below)1 sprig rosemary (optional, if not using rosemary simple syrup)1/2-3/4 ounce fresh lime juice1.5 ounces gin1/4 ounce elderflower liqueur (optional)
InstructionsTear up bay leaf, and place it with the quarter of a grapefruit slice, and rosemary simple syrup (or rosemary + simple syrup) into your cocktail shaker. Muddle the ingredients together, so that the oils of the bay leaf mix with the citrus and syrup. Them add in lime juice, gin, elderflower liqueur, and ice. Shake and strain into a coupe glass. Add a bay leaf on top for garnish, and/or rosemary sprig.

NotesSimple Syrup is equal parts sugar to hot water. It keeps a level of consistency in sweetness from drink to drink. Simply mix equal parts of sugar and hot water, and allow to cool before use. For this recipe, I recommend pouring the hot water over rosemary (dried or fresh) and letting it steep like a tea for 5 minutes before mixing in the sugar. This allows for a fun and easy way to add nuanced and unique flavors to your concoctions.

Magical Addition

Bay Leaves are powerful ingredients, associated with various magical recipes and spells. Especially known for success and wishing spells, these can be just the ingredient to use to wish prosperity and abundance in the New Year – and it’s aligned with your cocktail for magic inside and out! There are many ways to do this, so I suggest a preliminary internet search, but you can also simply clear your mind, reflect on what you want for 2021, perhaps write the wish on the bay leaf with sharpie, and either keep it or burn it.

Juniper & Jupiter

Energetic Alignment: Spirituality, Healing, Love, Protection, Purification, Wisdom, Divination

Cleanse away the chaos and align to the spiritual energies of the Sagittarius New Moon and eclipse with this crisp, refreshing, and slightly spicy bees knees variation. In comparison to its whiskey-based counterparts (the Spiced Sagittarius Hot Toddy and Whiskey sour for the eclipse), this cocktail utilizes the magic of juniper through gin. Aligned to the Sun, Moon, and associated with Sagittarius, juniper is powerful purification herb, that also enhances psychic connection, inspires healing, and helps with grounding as well. Along with purifying rosemary, invigorating ginger, spices like nutmeg and clove along with honey to help heighten spiritual energies and invoke wisdom – this bees knees variation is the ideal for a crisp cocktail for cleansing and spiritual alignment for this eclipse.

Spiced Sagittarius (Hot Toddy)

Energetic Alignment: Comfort, Purification, Vibration Raising, Truth, Protection

Inspired by the new moon in Sagittarius, this spicy, grounding hot toddy is exactly the beverage to comfort, protect, and inspire you during Sagittarius New Moon & Solar Eclipse. Especially for those of us in Northern Hemisphere who may be dealing with cold weather right now, this is just the beverage to cozy up to! With energizing, optimistic spices like clove, nutmeg, and allspice to raise your vibration, with ancient honey and grain-based whiskey to ground and invite wisdom, and energizing lemon and ginger – this hot toddy is packed purifying, heightening, and grounding alignments to help you seize the energetic benefits of this eclipse, while still being protected. Drink this alcohol free for a nice winter honey tea, or add whiskey and/or allspice liqueur.

A hot toddy with spices like clove, nutmeg, and fresh ginger, sweetened with honey, to keep you warm during the Sagittarius New Moon & Solar Eclipse.

Ingredients1 pinch ground clove (can try whole clove as well)1 pinch nutmeg1 sprig rosemary (can try dried rosemary as well)1 thing slice fresh ginger1.5 ounces honey syrup (1:1 honey to hot water)4-6 ounces hot water1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice(stop here for a nice non-alcoholic version/tea)1 ounce bourbon whiskey1/4 ounce allspice liqueur (optional)
InstructionsIn a mug, place nutmeg, ginger, clove, rosemary, and honey simple. Muddle the ginger, so that it is broken down. Add 4-6 ounces hot water, and let it steep for at least 5 minutes. Then add lemon, whiskey, and optional all spice liqueur.

NotesIf you wish to have allspice in the mix but don’t have allspice liqueur, you can add a pinch of ground allspice instead.
1.5 ounce honey syrup may sound like a lot, but remember that this is half water. You can also just use honey instead, and lessen the amount, but since we are using honey syrup for our other cocktails, this makes things less mess (or sticky). To make honey syrup, simply mix equal amount honey to hot water and let cool.

NotesFeel free to add some soda water (or possible some champagne?) to make the cocktail less intense. Alternatively, you can serve over ice to allow for dilution.
For a super easy earl grey simple syrup – set a tea kettle to boil. Prepare your earl grey tea bag (or none, if you wish to have just simple syrup) in a mason jar. Taurus Full Moon & Mixology

October 31st this year not only gifts us with Samhain/halloween, but also a rare blue moon. However, this Taurus Blue Moon marks a convergence of some peculiar energies that could affect many people in different ways (which I will get into below), so I’ve crafted just the libations to honor this lunar Taurus energy, while still staying grounded and gaining some lunar insight.

I also crafted 4 Samhain & Halloween inspired concoctions for October 31st!

The Witch’s Wand – using ingredients typically used in a wandBlack Sun – for Samhain protection and purification magicPumpkin Cream Martini – for harvest abundanceCoffee Ouja Martini – for connecting to the dead and spirit communication.

Check them out for various luscious libation to enjoy this magical night, and ideas on which cocktails from my book you can use, too!

Energetic Influences

Around this date, cultures across the northern hemisphere worship the dead, and celebrate the third and final harvest before descending into the colder months of winter. This journey into the past – the loved ones, lineages, etc, that have existed in the past, and also one’s personal journey in the last year – may seem only energetically enhanced as mercury retrograde pokes and prods many of us to face old limiting patterns, sometimes in unsavory ways. At the same time, a full moon is a culmination, a completion of a cycle, that also shines a lot and reveals the hidden, adding to this possibly triggering, but healing energy. (i.e. there may be a bit of high emotions, and/or revelations at this time).

This moon occurs in tantalizing, tenacious Taurus, ruled by none other than Venus. A physical sign that very much enjoys the earthly pleasures, this can be a time to focus on one’s physical body, self-care, and sensuality, and to question how one has perhaps been responding to the stress of the last month: have you been overindulgent, and stress eating, for example? Seek to reflect and strike a balance on making yourself feeling fabulous, but also realigning some perhaps negative habits. Focus on matters or stability, particularly in finance and enduring romantic relationships.

Additionally, this moon occurs conjunct Uranus, which rules spontaneous, sudden events, but also radical change and freedom. This means with this already heigthened energy of mercury retrograde, Samhain, and a blue moon, there is a sense of unpreditactbaility that could end up being a bit harash. But, inevitably, healing.

There is a lot you can choose to pull from and focus on from this time. So, I asked myself energetically what cocktail would be best, given the diverse set of energies that will most definitely be very intense for some, and otherwise very soothing and healing for others? As a result, I’ve crafted the following 2 cocktails – one hot toddy variation for a bit of self-care,  the other a whiskey sour twist, both designed to help ground and give insight, while still utilizing the Taurus full moon energies.

Either way, a blue on such a date, is an uncommon and magical alignment, that one can certainly use to do powerful manifestation magic. So take the time to do the healing work, and use the rare event to reflect and bring in your greater desires.

The Lunar Libations

Warm your spirit this Samhain night, with this warming, indulgent sweet tea. With clarifying rosemary, loving rose, manifestive vanilla, wise and magical apple, and grounding harvest bourbon, this tea will help provide insight and ground your energy, while also catering to those Venusian Taurus energies. This is the perfect libation for those looking to rest, do some selfcare, and insight work on this magical lunar night, while still bringing in the stability and abundant energies Taurus has to offer. You can also craft a rosemary and rose bath to correspond and magnify whatever intentions you set with this libation.

With elder for healing and wisdom, rose for Venusian loving energies, and luxurious vanilla, this cocktail is sure to enchant your Taurus moon whims. With the magic and longevity of apple, and whiskey to ground, this concoction has all you need to ride the wave of these lunar energies on this powerful night. Vanilla Simple Syrup: Vanilla simple syrup, is simply simple syrup (1:1 water to sugar) infused with vanilla bean or extract. I have the recipe I use in my book, but you can find others online. Don’t let the word syrup daunt you! It is relatively quick and easy to make, just warm the water, pour it over a small amount of vanilla bean and let it steep like a tea, then add an equal amount of sugar. Additionally, you can use or reference the syrup I use in the libra new moon cocktail and mocktail.
