Aquarius New Moon Mixology
Align to the Aquarius New Moon in true “cup-bearer” form with this cherry, sage, and lemon concoction to inspire optimism, purification, and insight.
A Bit About this Aquarius New MoonNew moons can be an especially potent time for new beginnings, but the moon in Aquarius offers a particularly limitless energy to truly expand one’s horizons. Known as the rebel or revolutionary, this sign is about expanding past limitations and innovation. And for those feeling influenced by this Mercury retrograde, this can be the perfect time to dig deep and purify away the old (and relax with a concoction). Utilizing ingredients associated with the moon, Aquarius, and accounting for Mercury retrograde, this is just the beverage to purify the old away, get wisdom and insight, and invoke the creativity and optimism Aquarius is known for.
As always, make the drink recipe work for you, per your own preferences. Work with what you have!
Other drinks I recommend at this time:
“Sake Inner Child” From my book WitchCraft Cocktails, this Sake Shirley temple is designed to invoke the youthful vision, imagination, and innovation Aquarius is known for. “ Aquarius Champagne Julep ” From earlier this year, with mint, sage, and other aligned ingredients, just swap the lime for lemon (or keep as is) and you have another potent potion for the Aquarius New Moon. “Communication Breakdown” For those looking to relax amidst Mercury Retrograde, this concoction is aligned for that very purpose! Additionally, you can the sage simple syrup from here for that drink, or vice versa! (I highly recommend Mercurial Grounding Elixir from my book for Mercury Retrograde as well!).The DrinkEnergetic Alignment: Wisdom, Purification, Optimism
Inspire some Aquarian optimism, creativity, and perspective with this tart and tangy cherry, sage, and lemon concoction. With ingredients like sage and rosemary to cleanse old ideas and limitations away (and to temporarily neutralize Mercury retrograde energies), and cherry, apple, and lemon to inspire creativity and happiness, this cheerful beverage is a fun way to call down the Aquarius new moon for new insight and exciting possibilities.
You can watch me make this beverage for my series Magical Mixology on Witch With Me below.
Alcoholic Version
PrintAquarius Moon MixA tart, tangy, juicy vodka and champagne cocktail. With cherry, sage, and lemon, this concoction is aligned to the Aquarius New Moon to help inspire Aquarian wisdom/insight, creavitiy, optimism, & purification in a tasty way.Ingredients2-3 red apple quarter slices1 sprig rosemary1/2 ounce sage simple syrup (can sub with nromal simple syrup and just add fresh culinary sage to the drink, or forgeo sage altogether and use just simple syrup)1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice1/2 ounce cherry juice (you can try fresh or frozen cherries, too)1 ounce vodka1 ounce sparkling white wineInstructionsPlace apple slice, rosemary, and syrup in a cocktail shaker. Muddle ingredients, so that the apple and rosemary is expressed into the syrup and broken up. Add in lemon, juice, vodka, ice and shake. Strain into a glass over ice and top with bubbles of choice. Garnish with crescent apple slice to represent the moon and rosemary sprig. Additionally, you can lightly burn the rosemary to produce some cleansing smoke or for a smoked aroma as sipping your concoction. NotesA note on the Sage Simple Syrup ~Simple Syrup is equal parts sugar to hot water. It keeps a level of consistency in sweetness from drink to drink. Simply mix equal parts of sugar and hot water, and allow to cool before use. For this recipe, I recommend pouring 1/4 cup hot water over 5+ culinary sage leaves (dried or fresh) and letting it steep like a tea for 5 minutes before mixing in the sugar. This allows for a fun and easy way to add nuanced and unique flavors to your concoctions. Additionally, you can heat the syrup over the stove if desired. Non-Alcoholic Version
PrintAquarius Moon Mix (Non-Alcoholic)Inspire the creative, optimistic, boundless energies of the Aquarius New Moon with this tangy cherry, lemon, and sage spritzer. Leo Lunar Libations
Bathe in the lavish Leo lunar light and spark your creativity, confidence, and excitement with these Leo-inspired beverages. Read more on to learn a bit about this Leo 2021 full moon, some cocktails I suggest for those that have my book, and then two concoctions I have available right here on my blog!
The Leo Full MoonAmidst individualistic-Aquarius season and greeting our entry into Mercury Retrograde, the Leo Full moon ignites our sense of excitement, inspiration, and courage. Like the luscious lion with its voluminous mane, the full moon in this sign can be a powerful time for confidence, radiance, and to get a bit lavish. However, the full moon is also known for inspiring heightened emotions, and certainly in the somewhat-dramatic sign of Leo (and given other astrological factors), this can hint at the possibility of a bit of drama at this time. The forthcoming Mercury retrograde certainly isn’t helping. Channel any such emotion in a positive direction if you can – use the full moon to release whatever issues arise, to inspire strength and courage, or express yourself through creativity.
For more on this full moon by an actual astrologer, I suggest my astrologer friend Anthony Perrotta’s blog, and if you are looking for ritual suggestions and ideas, the wonderful team at Witch With Me has a ritual guide.
So why not luxuriate in Leo fashion with some lunar libations? Use these drinks below to inspire your own recipes and improvise as desired, or follow as is. (Remember – make these drinks work for you! Everyone has different flavor preferences, and different ingredients).
From My BookFrom my book WitchCraft Cocktails, I suggest:
“Fire of Inspiration” – With cinnamon, lavender, and jasmine-cinnamon honey syrup, this hot toddy is designed to stoke one’s creativity and flare in the midst of these winters months. (You can also try turning this into a chilled beverage by adding ice – just be sure to add more lemon or honey to taste if needed, in case this changes the flavor balance).“Inner Child Sake” is another grand cocktail for this time. Inspired by the imagination and boundless ideas of Aquarius, this sake Shirley-temple-take is aligned for youthful innovation and limitless inspiration – perfectly aligned for both the moon in Leo and Sun in Aquarius! Feel free to add some cinnamon and/or lavender bitters to add more Leo-like associations.“The Blockage Buster” – This riff on a whiskey sour, with the additions of orange juice, cinnamon, lavender, and other Leo-associated ingredients, makes for a Lion-like concoction. Designed to help burst through blocks, this cocktail inspires energies not just for purification and releasing at this full moon, but also energies of opportunity and success that can heighten one’s energy to inspire creativity and power. “The Triumphant Lion” – For those of in the northern hemisphere experiencing winter (or those who just love whiskey), this old fashioned variation with bay leaf, orange, and hazelnut caries energies of Success, Strength, and Wisdom – which is perfect for the January Wolf Moon. For those that don’t have my book (although I would appreciate the support
) or perhaps even those who want to try something different – worry not, I have two Leo-inspired concoctions for you in my blog below!
Do note, I do use homemade syrups in these recipes. But if it gets too complicated – please don’t fret! I always suggest working with what you have on hand, and improvise where and how you can. Worst case scenario, switch for some good-old classic simple syrup!
From the Blog
Leo Le’moon & Berry Gimlet
With blackberry, rosemary, and a bit of spice, this berry-lemon gimlet cocktail & mocktail duo is packed with both lunar and Leo associations to help you draw down the moon for purification, joy/peace, and lunar inspiration. Don’t have blackberries? Try using a bit of blackberry liqueur, or replace with something else entirely that is more accessible to you.
A Lavender-Raspberry Daiquiri to inspire Love, Happiness, and Leo Strength
Luscious Leo
Designed originally for Leo season, this lavish raspberry, lavender, and orange daiquiri is ready to go for some Luscious Leo lunar vibes with a few simple modifications. Switch the lime for lemon, and perhaps add some nutmeg or rosemary and you heighten the lunar-associations of this drink. Or, keep as is! Either way, this drink is just like it sounds – a luscious concoction for those looking to luxuriate in the Leo full moon vibes.
Cheers, Witches!

Cancer Full Moon Mixology
Draw down the Cancer Full Moon with these lunar libations, and add some magic to your mixology! With jasmine and rose as the central ingredients, these concoctions are inspired by the Cancer Full Moon for love, self care, beauty, psychic abilities, and emotional and spirit-ual transformation. Use them as is, to inspire your own concoctions, or even to inspire your own lunar rituals, like a jasmine and rose bath.
About This Full Moon
On the evening of Tuesday December 29, the full moon in Cancer greets our entry into the new year. Following the last lunar eclipse, solar eclipse, and the grand conjunction that happened on the Winter Solstice, this full moon comes after a time of immense transformation. As per many full moons, inner emotions may surface and be exposed or heightened, so it will be a good time to really check in with ourselves and set a new emotional balance to allow for the best foundation for the new year. Being a sign that deals with the home environment, psychic abilities, and emotions, the moon in its ruling sign of Cancer offers a chance to re-check and orient ourselves in these areas. For example, are our goals for the New Year too overreaching, and not realistically considering self-care and balance? Is our home base (physical home, but also the home of our souls – the body) in a good place to lay the foundation for a successful 2021? Are we tending to our spiritual development and emotional healing to allow the new year to be the amazing year we want it to be? This gives us a chance to check our new years goals and resolutions by making sure our home base, our bodies, hearts, and mind will be balanced as we head into the new year.
You can read more about this Full moon and its other astrological correspondences by an actual (& amazing!) astrologer over at this article written by Anthony Perotta.

You can find the Jasmine-Rose Simple Syrup I use here. You may also wish to add some small apple pieces to your concoction if you like, to draw extra Cancer-sign healing, love, and alignment energies.

Jasmine-Rose Simple Syrup
Energetic Alignment: Love, Psychic Abilities, Spirituality
A floral cocktail syrup combining the enchanting flavors of jasmine and rose. Inspired by the Cancer Moon’s energies of (self) love, and emotional and spiritual connection, this simple syrup can add a touch of bewitching aromatics and a beguiling light pink hue to your concoctions – all you need is some organic dried jasmine and rose petals! (Although, you can also settle for just dried rose petals if you do not have dried jasmine). As a cocktail syrup, the combination of these two essences can add a back note of floral flavors that elevate your sipping experiences.
A few notes –
Jasmine can quickly become overwhelming, so I recommend erring on the side of less jasmine than more. You can play with using Jasmine Green tea, although I do not recommend it for my Cancer Moon Cocktails, as the tea flavor can easily interfere overwhelm the other flavors. But perhaps you can make some concoctions of your own with such experiments!
The Cocktails I use this in:

Winter Rose

Cancer Moon Mojito

Jasmine-Rose Simple Syrup
A floral and elevating cocktail syrup to add a touch of aromatics to your enchanting concoctions.
Ingredients1 tbsp dried rose petals1/2 (or less) tbsp dried jasmine1/2 cup hot water1/2 cup sugar
InstructionsSet hot water to boil. Place rose petal and jasmine into a jar. Perhaps take a moment to enjoy their scent and tune into their spiritual & healing energies. When ready, pour the hot water over the ingredients and allow it to steep for 5 minutes as thought a tea. Then, add in sugar and stir. Allow to cool, then strain and use!

Drinking the Yuletide
Sip in the season this Winter Solstice with these magical beverages! From the Candied Orange for positivity and love, the Solstice Old Fashioned for grounding and abundance, and the Evergreen Gimlet to cleanse away 2020 and enhance your intuition for divination for some 2021 goal-setting, I’ve just the winter beverage for you! Read on to learn more about the incredible power of this time of year, some suggested Yule drinks if you have my book, and then 3 drinks I’ve crated here on my blog just for you.
About the Winter Solstice
The Winter solstice has resulted in an array of traditions across cultures – one such celebration being Yule. Due to the earth’s axis in its journey around the sun, it marks the longest night of the year. On one hand, this offers a period of reflection on our own inner darkness. Coming from Samhain and the harvest season to now, fall has been a period of transition and change, and the longest night of the year is a powerful time for divination, especially with the new year around the corner. At the same time, from this day forth the sunlight grows in strength by about a minute each day, and thus marks a key energetic time for renewal, rebirth, and intention setting. So, take some time to journey inward, perhaps divine with tarot, and then think of what you wish for yourself in the new year and set some powerful intentions to grow with the power of the sun. And since this powerful day has marked so many cultures with varying practices, this may also be a good time to tune into ancestral wisdom, or the wisdom of the earth.
A night of astrological wonder, this years Winter Solstice is pretty spectacular with a Jupiter-Saturn in Aquarius Conjunction, not to mention the eclipse season leading up to it. 2020 Has been a year for the books, and regardless of how you look at it, the world has been through a big transition and we are clearly entering a new age. To me, that makes this solstice extra special! So take time reflect, cleanse, and plan with hope and inspiration for the new year – that all your wishes and desires grow as the sunlight’s strength does from now to the Summer Solstice.
Drinking the Yuletide
Celebrate the changing of the season, the rebirth of the sunlight, and the new year with these magically delicious Yule drinks! Utilize the ancient power of this time to purify your energy, divine for the future, and usher in a sense of love and positivity. Here are some beverages I’ve crafted for this year, plus 2 suggestions for those that have my book WitchCraft Cocktails.
From my book WitchCraft Cocktails I suggest:
Awakening Yule Mule: Featuring pomegranate, rosemary, and bergamot in addition to traditional Moscow Mule ingredients, this is just the beverage to celebrate the “rebirth” of the sunlight, invoke new ideas and inspiration, while enjoying seasonal flavors. (Can be nonalcoholic – just omit the vodka)
The Witch’s Offering: My take on traditional Wassail, this spiked (or un-spiked, depending on your preference), celebrates the age old tradition behind its recipe, while invoking abundance, love, and purification for the new year. (Can be nonalcoholic – just omit the alcohol)
(I served both of these at my work’s – a witchy store – staff Yule party when I was writing the book!)
The Candied Orange
To be enjoyed as non-alcoholic drink, or as a cocktail, this sweet & tart winter beverage features orange, lemon, cranberry, and rosemary, and is inspired by non other than seasonal candied orange treats. Renew your sense of positivity, love, and optimism with this sweet yet tart candied orange libation for the Winter Solstice.
Solstice Old Fashioned
The Winter Solstice is a time of year with countless cross-cultural traditions. Tune into the ancient power and energetic vibration of the Winter Solstice with this centering, herbal old fashioned. Using the magic of oak-infused bourbon/whiskey to invoke a sense of ancestral wisdom and seasonal ingredients like rosemary and citrus for purification, this is an easy cocktail for those looking to peer within this Solstice.
Evergreen Gimlet
Sip in the seasonal, crisp winter flavors with this evergreen gimlet. Evergreen Gimlet For New Years
Energetic Alignment : Protection, Purification, Insight/Psychic Ability, New Beginnings
Cleanse away 2020 and usher in 2021 with positivity and success for a grand new beginning! As the name might suggest, this cocktail is inspired by the evergreen flavors that reign this time of year (in the northern hemisphere), as a sign of the ever-constant life and of renewal. Celebrating the Solstice – New Year time as a period of purification, this cocktail is packed with cleansing, protective, intuitive, healing, and positively renewing ingredients to cleanse away the year 2020 and usher in 2021 with positivity and success! Featuring the purifying, crisp flavors of juniper, rosemary, and bayleaf, with the uplifting hint of grapefruit and elderflower liqueur, this is a simply delicious concoction. You can choose to omit the quarter of grapefruit slice and/or elderflower liqueur. They add extra energies of positivity and healing for the new year, but you can still have a magically delicious cleansing cocktail without them! Additionally, feel free to play with topping this gimlet off with a bit of champagne. There is a mocktail (nonalcoholic) version below, where you can also substitute the soda water for champagne as well. Enjoy this delicious concoction while reining in the new year, or perhaps match with a corresponding bay leaf spell for success and abundance in 2021. Happy New Year!
PrintEvergreen GimletA crisp, refreshing herbal gimlet celebrating winter flavors, with rosemary, bay, grapefruit, and a tad of elderflower to cleanse away 2021 and celebrate new beginnings.Ingredients1 large bay leaf1/4 of a slice grapefruit (optional)1/2 ounce simple syrup (preferably rosemary simple syrup – see note below)1 sprig rosemary (optional, if not using rosemary simple syrup)1/2-3/4 ounce fresh lime juice1.5 ounces gin1/4 ounce elderflower liqueur (optional)InstructionsTear up bay leaf, and place it with the quarter of a grapefruit slice, and rosemary simple syrup (or rosemary + simple syrup) into your cocktail shaker. Muddle the ingredients together, so that the oils of the bay leaf mix with the citrus and syrup. Them add in lime juice, gin, elderflower liqueur, and ice. Shake and strain into a coupe glass. Add a bay leaf on top for garnish, and/or rosemary sprig.NotesSimple Syrup is equal parts sugar to hot water. It keeps a level of consistency in sweetness from drink to drink. Simply mix equal parts of sugar and hot water, and allow to cool before use. For this recipe, I recommend pouring the hot water over rosemary (dried or fresh) and letting it steep like a tea for 5 minutes before mixing in the sugar. This allows for a fun and easy way to add nuanced and unique flavors to your concoctions. Mocktail Version

Do what works best for you!In a shaker, add torn bay leaf, rosemary, simple syrup, lime and grapefruit juice. Add ice, shake and strain over ice into a collins glass over ice. Top with soda water, and adorn with bay leaf and/or rosemary.Magical AdditionBay Leaves are powerful ingredients, associated with various magical recipes and spells. Especially known for success and wishing spells, these can be just the ingredient to use to wish prosperity and abundance in the New Year – and it’s aligned with your cocktail for magic inside and out! There are many ways to do this, so I suggest a preliminary internet search, but you can also simply clear your mind, reflect on what you want for 2021, perhaps write the wish on the bay leaf with sharpie, and either keep it or burn it.
