A Fall Old Fashioned

With fall here and winter around the corner, now is the perfect time to relish in those woodsy, nutty aromas to celebrate and focus our intention on the season. With maple for abundance and longevity, walnut bitters for health, wishes, and protection, and hazelnut for creativity and wisdom, this maple old fashioned drink recipe is perfect for those cold & cozy gatherings inside. Whether looking for a fall drink recipe to enjoy some journaling by the fire, or a quick mix for an autumn party, this autumn bourbon cocktail recipe is sure to entice!

Before diving into the magical recipe, learn more about the ingredients I use in this concoction, and their magical properties below. Or, go ahead skip ahead to the recipe further down below.

Ingredients and Tools for the Hazelnut & Maple Old Fashioned

When it comes to mixing a magically delicious drink, the story and inspiration behind it, and the flavors and the magic they bring is key. And it can certainly help inspire reflection, or provide fodder for entertaining guests! Here are the ingredients you will need for this fall old fashioned, a bit about their flavor and inspiration, as well as a little on the folklore and magic these elements bring.

Maple Syrup

While few would think of cocktails and mixed drinks when it comes to maple syrup, it is certainly a worthwhile and innovative use of this ingredient! Flavor-wise, maple helps add that grounding woodsy aroma with which to balance and ground the nutty, sweet flavors of this drink. Besides coming with a myriad of health benefits (check out this article on the benefits of maple syrup by WytchWood), it helps add energies of longevity, love, and abundance – enhancing the harvest abundance flavors of this drink as we make it though the fall harvests.

I personally used WytchWood maple syrup, as they are a small couple-owned shop, that also botanically infuses their maple syrup with other ingredients (which crafts some supremely delicious syrups!). Maple syrup can vary from brand to brand, so if using another maple syrup, be sure to start with less in your maple cocktail and add more, if needed.

Interest in some more maple syrup cocktails? Check out this Maple Gin Hot Toddy, or Fig & Maple Sour recipes.

Walnut Bitters

While these bitters may sound unfamiliar, I can assure you – they are worth the purchase and absolutely delicious! Adding in soothing, almost chocolate-y nut aroma to this drink, walnut also adds in the energy of mental powers and clarity, health, and helps to grant wishes (great magnifier to that abundance energy of this drink!). I personally used Fee Brothers Walnut bitters – these are simply DELICIOUS.

Hazelnut Liqueur

A perfect fall favorite, hazelnut helps add the flavor of the season, and a hint of nutty aroma to this concoction. Associated with the Sun and the planet Mercury, hazelnut helps bring wisdom, enhance communication, inspire creativity, as well as has folkloric and magical uses for protection, divination, and magical enhancement.

Frangelico is most commonly associated with this, but you can also try this one for a less expensive version. I personally used Vita Devine Hazelnut liqueur, which is another affordable option I was able to find at Total Wine.

Bourbon

Bourbon is an essential for any old fashioned, and this autumn bourbon cocktail is no exception! The base spirit of this maple old fashioned, bourbon adds in the magic of the harvest season with its corn and grain base, as well as being aged in oak.

As a financially observant choice, I personally used Evan Williams bourbon, but Buffalo Trace is a great higher quality option as well!

Cocktail Cherries or Maraschino Cherry

As garnish, and to bring all the flavors together with a bite of sweetness, we have a cocktail cherry (although you can use maraschino cherries in a pinch, if looking to budget). An ingredient many associate with old fashioneds, cherry energetically inspires abundance, divinatory enhancement, happiness, and love.

Tools

Luckily, an old-fashioned doesn’t require many tools! You will need something with which to measure your ingredients, such as a jigger (you can also convert ounces to tablespoons and use a tablespoon measurer), something to stir with such as a bar spoon or normal spoon, and an old fashioned glass. If you are in a fall mood, these old fashioned glasses from etsy are absolutely bewitching!

I also suggest using single large square or circular cubes. I personally have this ice mold duo at home, and it works perfectly!

Looking for a herbal hot maple drink recipe, or warm gin cocktail to enjoy as the fall winds begin to rise? Sip on this rosemary, sage, and maple hot toddy as you cozy up inside and reflect on the summer to fall, to winter transition. With a sprinkle of kitchen witchery and magical folklore, and easy to enjoy with or without alcohol, this hot toddy with maple syrup is sure to be fast fall favorite.

This post contains Amazon, Etsy, & Drizly affiliate links. As an Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

A Warm Maple Gin Toddy For Cold Weather

(Feel free to forego the gin if looking for a nonalcoholic drink! It’s just as delicious).

Just in time for the change of seasons, this refreshing and comforting, sage, rosemary, maple and gin hot toddy is sure to warm you right up! With sage for purification, wisdom, and protection, rosemary for insight, the mind, and peace, and maple for longevity and grounding aromas, this herbal hot toddy cocktail recipe is designed to accompany the introspection, wisdom, and cleansing that the autumn season brings.

Ingredients & Tools You Will Need for this Hot Maple & Gin Toddy

When it comes to something like a tea or hot toddy, each ingredient has a role to play. Luckily, this hot maple toddy requires tools and ingredients you may already have in your kitchen or garden! Skip ahead to the recipe, OR read on to uncover the flavors, folklore, and magical uses of each ingredient we will be using in this gin toddy drink recipe.

1 Fresh Rosemary Sprig

There’s nothing quite like fresh rosemary! A garden essential, this evergreen herb brings flavor notes of herbal citrus and pine that mixes well with the lemon and gin in this concoction. Oftentimes, just the scent of this herb is relaxing and invigorating – and for good reason! Rosemary has been shown to help enhance the mind and memory, and its scent (reminiscent of the seaside by which it is named after) often brings peace and relaxation. Magically, rosemary is also often used for purification, protection, healing and enhancing psychic insight, in addition to its mind enhancing abilities. With its ability to calm and enhance the mind, and cleanse, as en evergreen shrub, rosemary makes the perfect addition to this relaxing and introspective hot toddy.

3 Fresh Culinary Sage Leaves:

From its unique woodsy, slight peppery and lemon aroma to its energies of wisdom and longevity, Sage is famous for its use in both cooking and in spirituality. This wonderful kitchen herb compliments the maple and lemon in the concoction, while adding energies of wisdom, focus, purification, and spirituality (perfect to add to our introspective concoction!). For this recipe, you will want fresh culinary sage leaves, which you can often find in the fresh herb and produce section of most grocery stores (sometimes you have to get the prepackaged encased herbs). Since most teas traditionally use dried herbs, you can try dried sage as well, but the flavor and bitterness will become more pronounced. Using fresh herbs will help add a lighter flavor aroma that will allow our other ingredients, like maple, lemon, and gin (if using alcohol) to come through.

Have some sage leftover? Try this Fig & Maple Sour drink recipe.

Lemon

A hot toddy essential, jovial and bright lemon will liven up this concoction both energetically, and flavor wise! Besides complimenting the citrus hints of rosemary and sage, Lemon inspires energy of longevity, creativity, and joy. A common scent in cleaning products, lemon is also associated with purification and cleansing – thus helping to further magnify the purifying properties of this beverage, while also uplifting your mood!

One – two lemons should be ample to provide the 1 ounce of lemon juice you will need for this concoction. I personally use a hand juicer like this when making just a small handful of drinks, or an electric juicer like this one when I want to prep more.

Maple Syrup

Replacing the usual honey in our hot toddy, maple syrup compliments the woodsy sage in this concoction, adding in a grounding and earthy aroma, and subtle sweetness. A perfect fall addition to this warm beverage, maple is magically known to inspire energies of longevity, money, and love, while its grounding and earthy tones help invite introspection.

I used my personal favorite: WytchWood maple syrup, which is made from a couple duo that creates these magically and botanically infused maple syrups. Additionally, they have a great page on the history, magic, and benefits of maple (not to mention a magical chant you can use when you pour it into your drink!). Maple syrup can vary from brand to brand, so if using another maple syrup, be sure to start with less in your maple cocktail and add more, if needed.

Gin (for the alcoholic variation)

To compliment the woodsy, herbal flavors of rosemary and sage, piney and refreshing gin makes the perfect alcoholic addition to our concoction (if going nonalcoholic, simply forego). With Juniper as the defining ingredient, gin can be a great way to implement this herbs magic of purification, protection, grounding, and spirituality/psychic enhancement.

I personally used New Amsterdam Stratusphere Gin, as I find it approachable in both taste and cost! Gin’s can be very opinionated in flavor from brand to brand, so be sure you use a gin that works with your personal flavor palate.

Tools & Equipment

Luckily, the tools you will need, most households will have on hand! For this concoction, you will need a kettle or something to brew hot water with, something to measure with, and a mug or tempered glass to enjoy it in (if in need, check out some of these cute witchy mugs on etsy!), to withstand the hot temperatures. As for measuring, I personally used this OXO jigger, as it has the ounce markings on it AND has a rubber grip so that your hand doesn’t get burned when measuring and handling hot water. However, you can also convert ounces to tablespoons, and use most household measuring tools.

Now that you have all your ingredients and tools, let’s get to drink-making!

Looking to deepen your connection and focus with the Pisces moon? Here are some crystals I suggest, depending on your intention.

Blue Lace Agate:

This calming agate is perfect for invoking harmony and going-with-the-flow in true Pisces Moon fashion. Blue Lace Agate is also a powerful communication and relaxant stone, making great to work with for the upcoming shift into Mercury Retrograde as well.

Amethyst :

A quick favorite for many, amethyst connects one to the Divine and to spiritual wisdom. It is a great stone for developing intuitive abilities while also providing auric protection. Under the Pisces moon, amethyst will help you deepen your spiritual and intuitive connection. A wonderful stone for stress relief, amethyst helps break addictive patterns and also invites peaceful rest.

Blue Sapphire :

Activating the Third Eye and Throat Chakras, Blue Sapphire is a stone of awareness and discipline. It helps quiet the mind to uncover hidden truths, inner wisdom, and vision of what the soul really wants (perfect for that Pisces Moon Dream Big energy!). Its connection with the Throat Chakra promotes speaking this truth into reality. Blue Sapphire’s association with the planet Saturn makes it a great ally for organizing any ideas that may come to mind with its use, and helping them become reality.

Turquoise :

Turquoise is a stone sacred for its association with the divine and creation. As many blue stones do, turquoise helps promote communication. However, it also helps one embrace self-forgiveness and acceptance in order to find healing and wisdom. Turquoise is a great stone to work with, for those looking to channel their spiritual creativity.

Moonstone :

And as with any moon, Moonstone is always a great choice. This powerful stone helps connect to the higherself and intuition. So use this beauty to help tune into your intuitive, watery power! Moonstone also invites calmness and creativity into ones life.

To layer on the energetic & magical frequencies, you can meditate with your given crystal, keep it on you as make and/or sip the drink, as well as attune the crystal to the drink by visualizing both the drink and crystal resonating together with your intention, as you hold the crystal against the outside of the glass. (Don’t put your crystal in any of the cocktail components unless you know for sure it is not toxic).

A Fig & Maple Sour: Harvest Moon Drink Recipe

Looking for a drink to sip in the seasonal change, while celebrating the harvest moon and the myriad of flavors it brings? Well, look no further than this fig and maple sour, harvest moon drink recipe!

This post contains Amazon, Etsy, & Drizly affiliate links. As an Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Recipe for the Harvest Moon: Fig & Maple Sour

With spices like nutmeg and a hint of (optional) anise, bright and rejuvenating lemon, and earthy sage, this Fig & Maple, spiced vodka sour recipe is sure to invoke the creative inspiration, spiritual wisdom, and warmth of the season. And a nonalcoholic rendition is included, so that all can enjoy the magic of the Harvest moon in drink formation!

Bridging the gap between summer harvest herbs, and the earthy, warm tones that accompany the forthcoming chill of fall, I designed this concoction to bring together the themes of bright, attentive Virgo season and the fluid, inspired Pisces moon that lights it up.

Enjoy this Harvest Moon drink recipe to celebrate the end of summer and the coming of fall, imbibe under the light of harvest moon, or use it to help you energetically attune to the transitional themes, the inspiration, sensuality and spiritual wisdom that the autumn brings.

Learn about more the ingredients, their magical associations and flavors, and tools I used below – or skip ahead further down for the autumn drink recipes!

Maple Fig Vodka Sour Cocktail Recipe Ingredients

When it comes to the magic of this harvest moon cocktail, many different intentions, ingredients, and flavors come together, to craft this fig vodka drink for the Harvest and Pisces moons, while celebrating the transition from summer to fall admits Virgo Season. Here are the ingredients you will need, a bit about their flavor and inspiration, as well as a little on the folklore and magic these elements bring.

Fig Spread/Preserve

The shining star of this fig cocktail that you will need, to give it its deep amber color and key seasonal flavor, is fig spread or preserve (bonus points if you manage to find fresh fig!). Fig adds a richness to this concoction, while adding energetic potency for divination, sensuality, strength/energy, and abundance.

I personally used Private Selection Sweet Honey Fig Spread, which I found for $3.61, and can double as nice treat with toast, or atop an appetizer of a brie smeared cracker alongside a drizzle of honey and slice of apple.

3 Fresh Culinary Sage Leaves

Available in most grocery stores in the herb section, this wonderful kitchen herb helps add a hint of earthy aroma to compliment the lemon in this maple sour. Sage brings in elements of summer and the harvest season, while adding energy of wisdom, purification, spirituality, and insight (perfect for those fading summer nights, or rainy days of introspection).

Maple Syrup

Few people would think of harvest cocktails when it comes to maple syrup, but let me tell you – it certainly works wonders! Maple adds a subtle woodsy, grounding aroma to this concoction, and also heightens energy of longevity, money and love.

For this concoction, I immediately went to my personal favorite of WytchWood maple syrup, (of which there are many delicious infusions of maples syrup to choose from, to add more flavor options to your concoction). Maple syrup can vary from brand to brand, so if using another maple syrup, be sure to start with less in your maple cocktail and add more, if needed.

Lemon

For calling down the brightness and rejuvenation of the full summer moon, I can imagine no better citrus than lemon! Lemon plays well with the maple and sage in this refreshing concoction, while enhancing elements of creativity, joy, longevity, love, and cleansing (already strengthening the themes set forth by the fig, maple, and sage).

For this drink, I suggest about 1 ounce of fresh juiced lemons – which one large, juicy lemon can usually provide. I personally use this hand juicer when making just a small handful of drinks, or an electric juicer like this one when I want to prep more for a little harvest party cocktail.

Ground Nutmeg

A pinch of nutmeg in this harvest moon drink recipe compliments the fig flavors, and enhances the feeling of fall by adding that hint of spice. A lunar spice also ruled by Jupiter, nutmeg helps add energies of luck, money, health, and fidelity.

Ground nutmeg from any grocery store should do. Or, for extra magical moment, you can source whole nutmeg from your local spice shop or etsy and a microplane grater to freshly grind a tad of nutmeg into your concoction.

Lavender Bitters, or Fresh Lavender (Optional)

If you wish to go a step further, adding a few drops or just a touch of lavender, can help enhance the myriad of summer herbs aromas in this fig cocktail. Lavender, a known relaxant, helps purify the mind for peace and happiness, enhancing intuitive connection and allowing ones inspiration and ideas to flow through easily.

You can add any variation of fresh lavender (if you are so lucky – fresh French Lavender is one of my favs!), use bitters, or perhaps even tried a touch of dried lavender! I personally used Dashfire Lavender bitters, but Scrappy’s Lavender Bitters are also pretty good, and you can even learn how to make your own in my new upcoming book,Moon, Magic, Mixology!

Vodka (For the alcoholic version)

For this concoction, the base liquor you are going to use is vodka. When it comes to vodka, using a clean and crisp spirit is usually best, as its clarity can really carry through. For this concoction, I personally use Ving Vodka – an organic, ingredient-transparent, and woman-owned vodka company.

Anisette or Anise Liqueur (Optional)

While some may be fearful of anise flavoring, be careful not to overlook this wonderful spice! As is the case with this fig cocktail, just a hint of anise can really bring together a beverage, while not becoming overwhelming or even identifiable. Used as a quick rinse to coat the glass this cocktail, this small amount of anisette (or anise liqueur) helps blend the spiced flavors, and adds energetic potency of ones psychic abilities, of purification, clarity, and spiritual wisdom.

Ginger Beer (For Nonalcoholic Variation)

For the nonalcoholic version of this concoction, the spiced magic and fire of ginger compliments the rich flavor of fig and maple. Ginger helps enhance matters of longevity, love, money, success and power, making the perfect energetic compliment to fig both energetically and flavorwise!

When it comes to cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks, Q Ginger Beer is a personal favorite of mine, but Fevertree is also a great choice. Many of these you can find in a grocery store, in the soda or section or by the liquor section.

Tools

To make this concoction, there are a few tools you may need. I personally use a traditional Boston shaker, a jigger and a hawthorn and mesh strainer (to catch the fig and spice bits). You can also get a kit like this to try and cover any tools you may need for future bartending uses. However, you can try and improvise with tools you have at home to save money, like a mason jar, or converting ounces to table and teaspoons. You can also find most of these items in your local spirits store. Additionally, you may want a muddler like this to break up the sage (if desired), but you can also use the back of a wooden spoon, or break up the pieces by hand before adding to your concoction.

Once you have all your tools and ingredients, you are ready to make your Harvest Moon Fig & Maple Sour!

Sipping the Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse: Cocktail Recipes to Call Down the Moon

In need of a refreshing drink to amid the hectic eclipse energies? Or perhaps you’re looking for a spirited libation to celebrate the occasion? From a Bees Knees Variation, to a nonalcoholic spiced honey lemonade, and whiskey sour for spirited new beginnings, I have you covered!

About this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

Within arms reach of our entrance to summer, is a series of eclipses and planetary retrogrades guaranteed to give a bit of a bumpy ride. The first stop on this astrological adventure is the total lunar eclipse and super moon in philosophy-driven Sagittarius on Wednesday May 26.

Lunar eclipses, often referred to as magnified full moons, tend to craft some emotional turbulence as events are brought to a culmination. You can look back at the Sagittarius Solar and Gemini Lunar eclipse from December as to what patterns or themes may again arise for you. Add in that this is a super moon (meaning the moon is closer to the earth in its elliptical orbit), and you can imagine how this might be a time where emotions and revelations are heightened. But thankfully, by looking at what to expect, you can utilize these events for personal growth and transformation.

The Moon in Sagittarius leads us to ponder our “higher” nature.  A sign that questions higher answers, belief systems, philosophies, morals, and perhaps even our purpose – the moon in this sign can illuminate these issues and allies. A mutable fire sign, the moon in Sagittarius can also inspire flippancy and perhaps a flare of dramaticism. With the polarity between the detail- and information-oriented, social Gemini sun, and philosophy-driven Sagittarius moon, the eclipse can bring about the realization of rough truths, or craft friction in social situations as matters come to fruition. Use the time to invoke a change in perspective, to bring about a significant turning point in your life with whatever the eclipse brings to light. This can be a profound time of spiritual awakening, albeit with some dramatics perhaps, but you can utilize this to upgrade to the next level.

Other astrological alignments are happening at this time, such as Jupiter in Pisces forming a square, so be sure to check out astrological channels on YouTube to get more information.

And, as always, to help inspire energetic attunement (or just to have a tasty treat) with this eclipse, I have some concoctions! Beltane Beverages

A fire festival to invite and celebrate the coming of summer, Beltane marks the halfway point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. A time to celebrate both the middle of Spring and the coming of Summer, Beltane is a day of love, lust, abundance, and well being. For some, this means focusing on matters of health and reflecting on the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, or for others – manifesting abundance and expressing one’s sensuality. So whether it be making flower crowns under the Spring Sun or slinging and sipping on delicious, juicy drinks – go outside and celebrate the luscious verdant life around you, enjoy luxurious earthly delights, and invigorate your wild side!

The traditional day for Beltane is May 1st. However, some witches, pagans, and spiritualists celebrate Beltane on its astrological date – which will be May 4th this year for those of in the Northern Hemisphere. Either way you choose to celebrate, that leaves several days of beverages to try! And I have just the Beltane recipes lined up for you.

(For my Southern Hemisphere friends, my Samhain blog is here)

From my book WitchCraft Cocktails, I suggest:The Green Man – Beltane can also be a time to celebrate growth and renewal, and The Green Man concoction, with mint, honey, cucumber, and orange liqueur will help inspire that happiness and excitement or growth.Venus Spritzer – Oriented towards spring with lavender, mint, cucumber, and floral rosé vodka, this  Taurus season-inspired concoction is perfect for those looking to luxuriate in the abundant beltane vibes.Aphrodite Lust Potion – What better way to celebrate the lust of beltane, than with hibiscus, rose, lavender, and brut rosé? With the lusty energy of tequila, topped with sparkling champagne, this is an easy go-to.Beltane Bee’s Knees – Celebrate the birds and the bees with this Bees Knees Variation. With the love of rose water, soothing honey, and jasmine and cinnamon this concoction is an easy and quick fix. (I originally made this concoction with a cinnamon & black currant syrup, for those who may want to try that addition).

Other great choices: “Sun & Smoke,” “Flower Moon Harmonizer,” and “Love’s Lucky Charm”

Beltane Beverages from the Blog Maple & Rose

Mixing rum and maple, this juicy concoction is delightful and easily addicting. With the additions of strawberry, peach, orange, and lemon, this Beltane beverage is great for Spring love, happiness, creativity, and lust – what more could you want from a Beltane drink?

The Enchanted Garden

A crisp, light, and floral concoction to celebrate the Spring flowers! With Cucumber, basil, rose liqueur, and honey, this vodka concoction is inspired by the youthful, elegant, beauty of Spring. And using a rose petal and chamomile ice tea, refreshing apple slice, and soothing vanilla simple syrup, the nonalcoholic variation called “Beltane Beauty” is also a superb choice.

The Painted Lady

With the purification and rebirth energies of egg white, aromatic rose with grounding and lusty red wine, the Painted Lady is a perfect choice for those looking to celebrate the rebirth of spring with some more sensuality mixed in.

Other great choice include Luscious Leo with raspberries, and Elle’s Alchemy with Color Changing Butterfly Pea Flower! & if you are looking for something a little more spicy and fruity, I may have one more concoction for you on the way! Stay tuned.

The Enchanted Garden

Energies: Beauty, Love, Youth, Joy, Peace

April showers bring may flowers, and with the bounty of the garden, why not enjoy all that is blossoming in a glass? A rose liqueur and vodka cocktail, with the addition of cucumbers, basil, and honey for extra beauty, youth, and peaceful energies, this floral, light and crisp concoction is an elegant addition to your spring and Beltane cocktail lineup.

For this cocktail, I use Ving Vodka’s Organic Kale, Lemon, and Cucumber vodka. Beyond the fact this woman-owned company is extremely transparent about their ingredients, the fresh and crisp quality of this vodka makes it taste like a drink all on its own! It’s definitely going to be my go-to from vodka spritzers this summer.

I also highly recommend you take a look at the nonalcoholic variation of this concoction – it’s like an entirely different drink of its own!

With cucumber, basil, rose liqueur, and honey, this vodka concoction is inspired by the youthful, elegant, beauty of Spring.Ingredients2 thin slices cucumber2 leaves basil1/2 ounce honey syrup (1:1 ratio honey to water)3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice1/4-1/3 ounce rose liqueur1.5 ounces Ving Organic Kale, Lemon & Cucumber VodkaInstructionsIn the bottom of a shaker, add cucumber, basil, and honey syrup. Muddle these together, then add in lemon, rose liqueur, vodka, and ice. Shake and strain into a coupe or martini galss. Garnish with a rose petal and cucumber sliver. NotesOptional Add-ons: You may always want to try this concoction with some lavender bitters, and/or a 1/4 ounce add of triple sec. Add slowly, to taste, in case you may not like it!Beltane BeautyNonalcoholic Variation

Using a rose petal and chamomile ice tea, refreshing apple slice, and soothing vanilla simple syrup, this nonalcoholic variation is almost a completely different expression of the flavors The Enchanted Garden. This drink has many garden-inspired ingredients, so I recommend this for those who don’t mind more herbaceous or layered concoctions.

PrintBeltane BeautyA floral iced tea, with rose, cucumber, lemon, and vanilla simple syrup. Ingredients1 tbsp dried rose petals1/8 tbsp dried chamomile1/2-1 cup hot water1 slice red apple2 slices cucumber1/2 ounce vanilla simple syrup (see instructions below if needed)1 ounce fresh lemon juiceInstructionsSet hot water to boil. Place dried rose petals and chamomile in a jar or mug, and pour boiling water over. Let steep and cool. In the bottom of a tall glass, add apple, cucumber, and vanilla simple syrup. Muddle together, then add ice. Measure out 1.5 ounces of the rose & chamomile tea once cooled, and pour into glass. Add in lemon juice and stir. Garnish with a cucumber sliver!NotesOther additions to consider: Lavender, mint, perhaps soda waterIf you’d like to make this concoction alcoholic, add 1 ounce Ving Organic Kale, Lemon, & Cucumber Vodka. You may also consider adding 1/8-1/4 ounce triple sec or so. But add to taste very slowly – you don’t want to have too many flavors happening. To make vanilla simple syrup, measure out equal parts sugar and water – perhaps 1/2 cup each. Heat water, and pour over a quarter inch slice of vanilla bean and let steep. After 5 minutes, add in sugar, stir, and cool. Ingredient Alignment

Maple & Rose

Energies: Creativity, Happiness, Love, Lust

Celebrate the excitement of Spring and the return of the sun, with this peach, strawberry, and maple rum concoction! With peach for happiness, strawberry for invoking luck and harmony, and Wytchwood’s Aphrodite Maple for love, wellness, and abundance – this concoction is a juicy, easily addicting concoction to celebrate the seasonal flavors and energies. Topped with jovial lemon, the elevating and creative energies of orange liqueur, and grounded by the dark rum, Maple & Rose is just the Beltane drink to light your inner creative and sensual fires.

For this delightful drink, I use the Aphrodite Maple Syrup from Wytchwood (which is flavored with rose and cardamom) to complement the death of the dark spiced Kraken rum I used. Besides the fact that this maple syrup adds in extra loving energies of rose and cardamom, it is SUPERBLY delicious and has transformed my opinion of how dynamic and flavorful (and magical) maple syrup can be. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Muddle these ingredients together, then add in lemon juice, dark rum, and triple sec. Add ice, shake, and dump into bucket glass. Garnish with rose-cut strawberry and peach slice.NotesFor a mocktail version, simply make without alcohol! Honestly, it is just as luscious and delightful. You can replace the triple sec with a orange peel or slice if you like, although I do not suggest adding orange juice to this concoction. Also feel free to add 1/8-1/4 elderflower liqueur to this concoction if you desire. Be sure to add to taste – it can quickly become overwhelming.Ingredient Alignment

Sipping the Scorpio Moon

The Stinging Scorpio moon amidst luxurious, rooted Taurus season invites a reflection on the duality between stability and change, and invites us to reflect (and face) our inner truths, to release what holds us back for transformation. The moon in sensual and intense scorpio can be a time of passion, but also of truth seeking and illumination, on matters where perhaps it is time to finally reflect, or let go. It can also be an immense time for financial focus, as Taurus provides the structure and stability of wealth, while Scorpio is particularly great for business partnerships and money manifestation. So whether it be lust, power, money, truth seeking, or embracing some inner change and transformation, there’s something you can focus on (and imbibe) for this coming moon!

Here are two concoctions I’ve prepared for you: one using ingredients aligned to Scorpio as well as the moon for a powerful, inner change concoction and for some sensuality; and another one that uses ingredients like rose, red wine, and rye whiskey, that can be a great choice for a more Spring-vibe reflection on repeating patterns, as well as owning a sense of sensuality and rejuvenation.

Remember to always switch out ingredients that work best for you!

Scorpio Moon Smash

Designed specifically with the Scorpio moon in mind, this concoction pairs tantalizing and sweet ingredients like blackberry, basil, and simple syrup – with a bit of spice (ginger, these amazing Bennett Scorpion Bitters, and dark rum) to celebrate the passion, transformation, and creativity of the Scorpio Moon. With mint and triple sec for some refreshing elevating flavors added in, this is a great, juicy concoction to celebrate the dynamic energy of this moon for transitions and change.

The Painted Lady

Originally crafted to celebrate tattoos, with the purification and rebirth energies of egg white, aromatic rose with grounding and lusty red wine, the Painted Lady is a perfect choice for those looking to celebrate the rebirth of spring Pink Moon with some more lunar sensual scorpio vibes and sensuality mixed in.

The Painted Lady

(A concoction inspired by tattoos, but with rose, red wine, and lemon, is perfect for the Spring Pink Scorpio Moon, too!)

Energy: Beauty, Love, Lust, Optimism, Creativity, Rebirth

Tattoos are often a way to physically express and embody one’s experiences, perspective, and aspirations as we walk through life – or sometimes we just want some cool ink! In celebration of tattoos for Westport Library’s Tattoo Tales event, here is a grounded yet floral cocktail that celebrates the spiritual nature of tattoos, as a means of owning one’s story and experiences! (And just a D*mn good drink to enjoy if you like craft cocktails and tattoos 😉 ).

With rye whiskey celebrating the body and roots from which we all come, purifying and optimistic lemon, sweetening simple syrup, aromatic rose, elevating and creative orange, this sour variation is as addictive as getting a tattoo itself! Topped with a float of red wine to represent the body and lust,  egg white for rebirth (which also adds texture and cohesiveness to the concoction), and a “tattoo” drawn on the egg white with angostura bitters, the Painted Lady is as visually tantalizing as she tastes!

PrintThe Painted LadyA floral, balanced, refreshing sour variation with rye whiskey, rose, orange notes, and red wine! Inspired by tattoos, with the energy of creativity, rebirth, beauty, and celebrating the physical.Ingredients1.5 ounces rye whiskey1/2 ounce simple syrup (equal parts sugar to water)1/2 ounce lemon juice1/2 ounce triple sec4 dashes/drops rosewater1 egg white*1/2 ounce red wine for float5 drops/dashes angosture bittersInstructionsIn a shaker, pour in rye whiskey, simple syrup, lemon juice, triple sec, rose water, and egg white. Add ice, and shake. Remove ice and shake mixture again, without ice (known as a dry shake. You are doing a dry shake on the second time around to allow for a better foam with which to make your "tattoo"). Strain into a coupe glass, and using the back of a barspoon (or whatever spoon you have handy), carefully pour red wine into cocktail so that it rests at the top of the drink as a layer. Drop bitters into flower pattern on foam, and use a toothpick to draw your flower or symbol with the bitter drops on the foam. (For my witches, you can use this to draw a sigil!). Garnish with rose petals. You can also roll the cocktail – pour from one glass to another – to mix the red wine and bitters in, for a burgundy-pink colored concoction.Notes*Egg white is great for purification, and can add texture, as well as mellow out the acidity of drinks. If you don’t feel comfortable with using egg white however, you can forego it, or try using iced tea instead (I’ve seen some people do that! The foam still won’t last as long though).Optional Swap: For a sweeter, more floral concoction, you can swap the rye whiskey with white rum and perhaps use a little less simple syrup. [image error]
