Where I hang out online … #MFRWauthor
It’s week 15 of the MFRWauthor bloghop, and our prompt this week is Social Media Hangouts. Somehow, even though I wrote my post for week 14 on time, I missed getting my link added to the week. I was looking for it in the wrong place, I guess. I’m trying to get ahead of the game this week.
[image error]So social media. There are so many “must be” places online, it’s impossible for anyone to be everywhere and maintain any kind of real connection with readers, so I try to pick and choose the ones that suit m...

13 Things that Begin With “V”
Oh, this one’s not going to be easy. I can feel that already. But I’m determined to make it to the end of the alphabet, although I’m seriously considering combining X, Y and Z because they’re X, Y and Z. I mean, really!
So here goes. Let’s see if I can come up with 13 things that begin with V that had some kind of place in my world.
Vocabulary: I’ve been told that I have a good one, but probably most often by people who don’t. I don’t consider myself a vocabulary wiz, by any means, but I can...April 6, 2017
Where Do You Get Your Ideas? #MFRWauthor
It’s week 14 of the MFRWauthor blogging challenge, and this week our prompt is Story Inspiration.
I think one of the most common questions I’ve heard in my two-and-a-half decades in this business is, “Where do you get your ideas?” This usually comes from someone who isn’t the creative type because I think most creatives, whether they’re author, musician, painter, sculptor, or Crayola specialist understand that ideas come from anywhere and everywhere if you’re creative. A snippet of conversati...

The Problem with #BeautyAndTheBeast Nobody’s Talking About
As I write this blog post, I am gearing up to see Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast for the third time. That should tell you something right off the bat. I love the movie. I think the casting is brilliant and the movie is beautifully made. This is not one of those posts complaining about Josh Gad’s portrayal of LeFou. At. All. There’s only one small thing I would change about the movie if I were in charge of the world.
Older Daughter and I saw it as a family event the weekend it was r...

Cover Reveal — That Woman in Wyoming
[image error]
We just put the finishing touches on the cover for That Woman in Wyoming (coming to Kindle on April 18th and to paperback soon afterward) and the first thing I wanted to do was share it. I’m ridiculously pleased with it.
I love the fictional town of Serenity, Wyoming that I created for this book and for Christmas Homecoming. I’m giving serious thought to going back to Serenity for a visit and setting more books there.
I’ve been having a great time hanging out with Max, Reagan and Reagan’s da...

13 Things That Begin with “U”
I guess I’ve put this blog post off long enough. I keep wondering if I actually have 13 things in my world that begin with the letter “U”, but finding 13 U items is more likely than finding 13 X or Z items…so here we go. I’m game if you are.
In no particular order, 13 things from my world that begin with “U”:
1) [image error]Utah: I was born there but moved to Montana when I was three weeks old, so technically Montana feels like my home state. My parents moved us back to Utah when I was just 11, however,...

The Quality of Being Weak — #MFRWauthor
It’s week 13 of the MFRWauthor BlogHop and our prompt is My Greatest Weakness. Last week, I chose to discuss my greatest strength as an author, so I’m staying on topic today, as well.
But what would I say is my greatest weakness?
I think it would be that I don’t move quickly. I don’t mean that I don’t write quickly. I don’t write as quickly as some people I know, but I’m happy with my ability to get words onto the page on a regular basis. I mean that I don’t necessarily see and respond to the...

The Quality of Being Strong #MFRWauthor
It’s Week 12 of the MFRWauthor Bloghop, and our prompt this week is: My Greatest Strength.
Hmmm. Are we talking greatest strength as a person in general, or as a writer? I’m going with Option #2.
My greatest strength as a writer. I’ve been told over the years that I’m a clean writer, meaning that when I turn in a manuscript to an editor, it generally needs very little work. I’ve also been told that I write children well, especially pre-teens and teenagers. I like both of those comments becaus...

Here’s How the “Magic” Happens #MFRWauthor
It’s week 11 in the MFRWauthor bloghop challenge, and our prompt this week is to discuss our writing processes. An interesting challenge for me since I’ve written 10 how-to books about writing, all of which talk about my writing process. Obviously, the challenge part here is not the talking about my writing process, but to be succinct enough to talk about it in the space of a blog post.
[image error]Writers are generally pretty curious about other writers’ processes. We like to see how the other guy works...

Shhh…Don’t Tell a Soul – #MFRWauthor
It’s week 10 of the MFRWauthor blog challenge and this week’s prompt is Seven Guilty Pleasures.
Egads! I’m supposed to reveal my guilty pleasures for everyone to judge? I guess that’s the whole point, right? So okay, here they are:
[image error]Number 1: Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. Do not ask me why I watch this show when I can. There’s no real rhyme or reason to it. With one exception, I don’t watch the reality TV shows these people come from, so most of them are completely unfamiliar to me, but t...
