What Bad Habits? #MFRWauthor
It’s week 35 (can you believe it?) of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week blog challenge, and this week’s topic is My Bad Habits. Like I’d share my bad habits with the world if I even had any, right?
I don’t have bad habits. I mean, not all of my habits are good, but they’re not bad. Not really.
[image error]Not my actual lunch. I might remember to eat this!
Seriously, would you say that getting too busy to remember to eat is a bad habit? Or merely an interesting habit? Maybe a slightly annoying hab...

5 Places I’ve Found Inspiration for Stories — #upbeatauthors
Writers are often asked where they get the ideas for their stories. Readers are genuinely curious, but writers sometimes have a tough time answering that question. Some stories come into your head with a bang! and some arrive kicking and screaming. Every book is different.
Some ideas pop into a writer’s head after overhearing a snippet of conversation between strangers, or while watching a TV show or movie (I’d have done that differently!), or from a news story, and some from our own life exp...

The Doors We Open and Close – #MFRWauthor
It’s Friday. Week 34 of the Marketing for Romance Authors 52-week blog challenge, and this week our prompt is Open Doors or Closed Doors?
[image error]Terrific. I have no idea what that prompt means. Is it asking whether I prefer to work with the door to my office open or closed? Is it asking if I find open doors or closed doors more intriguing? Is it asking whether I feel as if the doors in my life are open or closed? Good grief. What am I supposed to say about this topic?
[image error]Answering the first question is...

A Childhood Pastime – #upbeatauthors
Happy Monday! It’s the start of a brand new week. It’s going to be a great week, beginning with the solar eclipse today and moving right on through to the end of the week.
On Upbeat Authors, our challenge this week is to think about something we enjoyed doing as a child that we commit to doing again at least once. I’ve been thinking abot this topic all week, trying to figure out what I would choose.
[image error]There are a lot of things I enjoyed doing as a child, but not many I can commit to doing again...

You Can’t Pour From an Empty Jar – #MFRWauthor
It’s Friday again, and that puts us at Week 33 of the Marketing For Romance Authors 52-Week Blog Challenge. This week’s prompt is What I Do To Recharge. It’s a good topic, I think. As an adult human being, it’s far too easy to burn the candle at both ends without fully recharging, Do that often enough and you end up with a serious case of burnout.
[image error]It’s difficult enough to be pleasant to other people when you’re burned out. Or maybe I should say being civil is a challenge in and of itself. Tr...

Behind the Scenes of “CHRISTMAS HOMECOMING”
It’s time for another installment of “Behind the Scenes,” not for any specific reason, but because it just feels like time to me. And because this is my blog and I make the rules, it’s time. I picked today’s book, as I always do, by using a random number generator, and today’s choice is Christmas Homecoming.
[image error]Christmas Homecoming started out life as The Christmas Wife, published by Harlequin Superromance. When Harlequin opened its “Heartwarming” line, the book was reissued as Christmas Homecom...

Looking Forward, But Not All That Eagerly — #MFRWauthor
It’s Friday, which makes it Week 32 of the MFRW 52-Week blog challenge. There have been some tough topics to tackle in the previous weeks, but if ever there was a prompt that made me want to bail on the challenge, this is it. Today’s prompt: 10 Years From Now…
[image error]In the past, I probably would have approached this week’s prompt eagerly. I’m all about having dreams and setting goals. I would have enjoyed predicting where I’d be in 10, 15 or 20 years. But I’m not 20 or even30 anymore, and in 10 yea...

Pour. Drink. Repeat. #upbeatauthors
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I’ve joined a group of authors dedicated to sharing up messages on social media, and this week’s theme is “one simple thing I can do to improve my health today.”
[image error]There are about a bazillion different things I could talk about on this topic, because almost anything I chose to do would improve my health. I am so not a health fanatic, and never have been. No doubt it’s a character flaw, but, then, being too health-obsessed is probably one too, so let’s just...

A Day in the Life of Me! — #MFRWauthor
It’s week 31 of the Marketing for Romance Writers (MFRW) 52-Week Blog Challenge. (Let’s pause here for a moment to be amazed that I’ve now blogged for 31 straight weeks without missing a single entry. Are you suitably impressed? Good, then let’s move on…) This week’s prompt is A Day in My Life.
Wow. Good thing we shared that moment earlier, because I’m not sure the rest of this blog post will do much for anyone. My life is…well…boring. But in the spirit of the day, let’s give it a go.

5 Things You Might Not Know About Memphis, Tennessee
My grandkids came to visit for a month this summer. It’s the second year in a row we’ve had a month-long visit, which makes June and July my new favorite months of the year. Part of our new tradition is meeting halfway between our house and theirs, in Memphis, Tennessee. We pick up the kids there and bring them home, and we meet up again with their parents at the end of our visit.
Having just made two whirlwind trips to Memphis in a month, I decided to share a few things you may not know abou...
