Where I Do What I Do — #MFRWauthor
Happy Friday, everyone! Welcome to week 47 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week blog challenge. This week’s prompt is My Writing Space.
I’d love to share picture of my lovely office and tell you that’s where I spend my days, but that wouldn’t be entirely true. Oh, I do have an office, and I do spend some time in there just about every day, and sometimes that’s even where the writing happens…but not always.
I’ve been at this for a quarter of a century (man! does that make me feel old!...

When One Door Closes… #upbeatauthors
Back in 2008, my youngest daughter and her husband packed up everything they owned and moved from Utah, where we had all been living in close proximity to one another, to Florida, [image error]something like 25 gazillion miles away. They hadn’t been married all that long, so my son-in-law was still something of an unknown commodity to me. I liked him…a lot…but now he was taking my baby so far away I couldn’t be there if she needed me. I wanted to trust him with her, but could I?
To make it even worse, he...

Bragging Rights – #MFRWauthor
Good morning and welcome to week 46 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blog Challenge. This week’s prompt is Let Me Brag For a Moment. I’m really uncomfortable with blatant self-promotion, so the only reason I’m writing a blog post this week is that I’ve hung in there for 45 weeks before this one, and I’m determined to make it to 52. I try to keep my commitments, even when they’re just to myself.
But bragging? Not really something I enjoy doing.
[image error]I realize I wouldn’t have to brag abo...

The Day I Got “The Call” — #MFRWauthor
Welcome to Week #45 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week blog challenge. This week’s prompt is An Unforgettable Day in My Life, which is an easy prompt in some ways since there are many memorable days in anyone’s lifetime. Trying to pick just one is a bit of a chore, but since I’ve written about several personal things lately, I decided to go with something career related. Today I’m going to talk about the day that changed my life forever–the day I sold my very first book.
[image error]It was in...

The Woman Who Inspires Me Most–#MFRWauthor
Welcome to week 44 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week blog challenge. This week’s prompt is A Person That Inspires Me.
[image error]I have to be honest with you–this one made me pause. At first glance, I don’t have anything to write about this week. I don’t consciously think about feeling inspired by another person…ever. I’m well aware that everybody on the planet is as flawed and fallible as I am, which leaves me with the impression that most of us are just faking it, hoping we appear to have i...

Tinkerbell and Aramis — #MFRWauthor
It’s Friday already, which means it’s time for the blog posts for week #43 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blog Challenge. This week’s prompt is Meet My Pets.
This is one of the rare blog prompts that I find really easy to write about. I have pets, and I can introduce them to you. Easy.
[image error]First, let me introduce you to Tinkerbell, our 3 year-old Calico, also known as Miss Belle, or Belle, or She Who Shall Not Be Touched. You can pet her if you want to, but you may not have a hand a...

You Never Forget Your First Love — #MFRWauthor
Welcome to week #42 of the Marketing for Romance Authors 52-Week Blog Challenge. This week’s prompt is My First Love.
[image error]When I saw this week’s prompt, my mind went immediately to one person and has stayed there, no matter how hard I tried to steer myself in another direction. I tried to come up with a “love” I could claim that didn’t feel quite so personal, but no, my first love kept stealing his way into my head, pushing everyone else aside.
Who was he? His name was Philip Clayton, and he was...

Behind the Scenes of “Arsenic and Old Cake”
It’s been a while since I’ve written a “Behind the Scenes” blog post, so I decided this morning it was time to log into the random number generator and pick a book. I was kind of excited to see that I landed on Arsenic and Old Cake because I had a lot of fun writing this book. It’s one of the Piece of Cake mystery series that I wrote under the pen name of Jacklyn Brady.
[image error]Arsenic and Old Cake is the third book in the series in the series and takes Rita on an adventure into a part of New Orleans...

Inspire Me! — #MFRWauthor
Welcome to week #41 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week blog challenge. This week’s prompt is My Blogging Inspiration.
Hoo-boy.
I could make this post short and sweet by saying right now, this challenge is my blogging inspiration. But that would hardly make it worth the effort you spent clicking on my link, so I’ll try to expound a little bit more.
[image error]I may have mentioned before that I’m easily bored. I love variety. I like variety in my menus, variety in my activities, variety in my fr...

Sit Down, John! #upbeatauthors
It’s Monday, which means it’s the start of a brand-new work week, and that means another installment of posts from Upbeat Authors. Today’s topic My Favorite Historical Figure. Really, I should say figures, plural, because my favorites are a couple. I don’t think one could have done what they did without the other.
[image error]Though I love history, and many people could actually qualify for my list of favorites, John and Abigail Adams take top honors. I first became fascinated by them many years ago when...
