Thirteen Things In My Life Beginning with “G” (In No Particular Order)
1. Granddaughters. Surely you’re not surprised. These girls are the absolute light of my life. Even on the most stressful, anxious days, they make my world bright. They are the reason that after years of skepticism on the issue, I now truly believe that God loves me. I am the luckiest woman on the face of the earth.
2. Goody Goody Gunshots, a book I wrote several years ago under the pen name Sammi Carter. It was the first...

It’s All About the Reader — dancingoncoals
I’m up to my eyeballs in books and manuscripts I’m judging for contests, which is great. There’s nothing like contest season to reinforce the things you know as a writer and help you remember things you don’t want to do in your own books. I want every book or manuscript I pick up to be a[…]

1. Florida. We moved here from Utah six years ago because my daughter, her husband, and the two WonderKids were living here. My son-in-law was in the military and stationed here. My daughter was dealing with two small children on her own while he was serving long deployments. It was a huge step to pack up everything we owned, put it on a truck, and head off across country, but it was reallya no-brainer at the time.
2. Family.Top on my list of important things/people....

The Great Blog Migration
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been painstakingly (some might say obsessively) moving posts from a very, very old blog into this one. My most recent blog before this sits untouched, but I am moving posts I wrote in 2005 over here slowly, slowly, one at a time. Okay, so this hardly qualifies as a “great” blog migration, but humor me.
I ask myself why I’m doing it. Most of the posts are a bit silly, maybe even a bit embarrassing. It’s not as if I’m aware of any pearls of great price in th...

13 Things that Begin With “E”
In no particular order…
1. E-mail. A lot of online interaction has moved to social media, and I spend my fair share of time on Facebook and Twitter, but e-mail is still alive and kicking, and I spend time every day reading and responding to it. Especially when I’m working, I’d rather use e-mail than to have constant interruptions by phone during the day.
2. Electricity. Seriously, where would we be without it? We need it to run everything in the house, including my all-important air-conditio...

The Trouble With Being Your Own Boss
I’m going to be upfront from the beginning. I’m whining today. I woke up in a mood, and nothing has happened to make that mood better. What’s got me torn up today? The fact that I’m my own boss–which isusuallya great thing. I love being my own boss…until something out-of-the-ordinary needs to be done.

Not my actual vehicle
Like if there’s car trouble.
I live with my adult daughter, who has job she loves as a quality control analyst in the health-care industry. She uses a car to get back and f...

13 Things that Start with “D”

1 Deadlines. For a writer, they’re part of everyday life, and they can be pure hell. Learning the discipline of writing is essential because there’s nothing that can kill the muse faster than having to be creative on demand. But you know what they say–the only thing worse than having a deadline isnothaving a deadline
2 Daughters. They’re my kids and my best friends. They get me when no one else does. For every minute of grief or worry they’ve brought me, they’ve given...
