Ghost of a Chance: Chapter 4

It’s that time again! I’ll be counting down to the June 29th release of Ghost of a Chance, the next book in The Many Travails of John Smith, by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. In previous chapters, John was hired by the White Ladies of San Diego to find their missing leader, Graciela, but his Saturday research was interrupted by Juliette and Anastasia. And then someone tried to steal his car. In Chapter 4, John and his much-loved Corolla b...

Ghost of a Chance: Chapter 3

It’s that time again! I’ll be counting down to the June 29th release of Ghost of a Chance, the next book in The Many Travails of John Smith, by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. In previous chapters, John was hired by the White Ladies of San Diego to find their missing leader, Graciela. In Chapter 3, John tries to figure out how he’s going to do that. As usual, Google plays a part, but some very, very old friends also make an appearance.

If...

Ghost of a Chance: Chapter 2

It’s that time again! I’ll be counting down to the June 29th release of Ghost of a Chance, the next book in The Many Travails of John Smith, by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. In Chapter 1, John’s Friday night out turned into a Saturday morning out, with his house ghost taking him to meet with the other White Ladies of San Diego. Chapter 2 continues that meeting as John gets a little bit more information on Graciela’s disappearance.

If yo...

May update: post-release catch-up, status check, cover reveal and more

Somehow, it’s been almost a full month since the release of Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff. May has been a crazy month in an already crazy year.

In June, I’ll dive into the release hype for Ghost of a Chance, the next book in The Many Travails of John Smith. Today, I wanted to take a moment to look back at its predecessor’s release. How did it go? Where are the gold-plated toilets I was promised? Why am I continuing to write and release John Smith books when readers want the next Damian boo...

Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff: Release Day, Advance Review Round-up, and Content Warnings

Release Day

Today, I am thrilled to release Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff, the next book in my comedic urban fantasy series, The Many Travails of John Smith!

It’s been months since John finished his case for the vampire queen Lucia, and as you’ve read in the sample chapters, life has moved on. But in San Diego’s supernatural society, peace is more hypothesis than reality, and John’s newest case will see him once again pulled into a conflict that might just kill him.

The Subtitles Behind Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff

This was originally going to be a post with some (mostly ridiculous) stats about Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff, leading up to next week’s release. But I did just that for the last three books, and it’s starting to feel a little bit played out. So instead, I want to revisit a subject near and dear to the series’ heart… chapter subtitles.

Of all my books, only the John Smith series uses what I call chapter subtitles. In the above image, that would be the “IN WHICH…” part. I’ve talked at le...

Red Right Hand audiobook is now available!

We interrupt the countdown celebration to Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff for an important announcement: the audiobook for Red Right Hand, the second book in my post-apocalyptic superhero trilogy, is now available!

I love what Joe brings to these books, and have been thrilled to see so many people enjoying the first book’s audio version over the past year. For all of you who have been waiting for Joe’s take on the sequel, wait no longer!A Cape’s life in the post-Break world is one of lo...

Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff: Chapter 5

I’ll be counting down to the April 27th release of Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff, the next book in The Many Travails of John Smith, by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. Last chapter, John started his stakeout in North Clairemont and, in classic John fashion, quickly became bored. This week, the hours of watching finally pay off. Sort of. This is Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff: Chapter 5.

If you haven’t read Investigation, Mediati...

Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff: Interlude and Chapter 4

I’ll be counting down to the April 27th release of Blood is Thicker Than Lots of Stuff, the next book in The Many Travails of John Smith, by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. Last chapter, John learned that Lucia wasn’t above a little bit of creative storytelling to bring him back under her thumb. This week, we take a quick break from the drama to revisit John in the (possibly distant?) future where he is, yet again, a naked prisoner, before...
