3 Ghosts: A post-Break Short Story

Photo by Volodymyr Yarossvit on UnsplashAn Extra Gift to Go Under Your Tree

Happy Holidays! In the spirit of the season, I started a new tradition a while back, one in which I write and release a free short story for my readers each year. On Christmas Day, naturally, because doing it on December 28th would just be odd.

It’s my way of saying thanks to all of you who have taken a chance on an author you’d never heard of. An author is only as good as their readers and on that metric alone, I’m kic...

In Which the Schedule is a Unicorn

They say that ‘insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.’

But they also say ‘hope springs eternal.’

Whoever they are, it feels like they’re sending some seriously mixed messages.

Still, as we wind down a 2024 that, while busy, was once again far less productive than it should have been, I have to side with the first of the above quotes.

Speaker of Tongues – Release Retrospective

Happy August, everyone! It’s been *checks calendar* six weeks since the launch of Speaker of Tongues, and that means it’s well past time for the usual release retrospective.

This is where I look back at how the book performed, throw big numbers around in a bid to appear secretly intelligent, and reflect on what I can do better in the future.

Fair warning: this post will be data heavy, so if that’s not your thing, skip to the tl;dr near the end!

We’ll start with our usual game. Looking at the a...

Speaker of Tongues is Now Available!

Paperback cover for Speaker of Tongues

After multiple years and more starts and stops than you could shake a stick at (if you were the sort to shake a stick at starts and/or stops), Speaker of Tongues is officially available in digital and print formats! The first book in my epic fantasy LitRPG series, The (Second) Life of Brian, Speaker of Tongues takes a young man out of Ohio and drops him into a foreign world under the very real threat of impending war. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do.

A special thank you to all of the ...

Speaker of Tongues: Chapter 5

As we count down to the release of Speaker of Tongues, I’m sharing its first five chapters.

Today, we have our last sample chapter, Chapter 5, in which things get real. Or realer, maybe.

Speaker of Tongues: Chapter 4-Interlude

As we count down to the release of Speaker of Tongues, I’m sharing its first five chapters.

Today, we continue on with Chapter 4, our first interlude, in which we see the world through a different character’s POV.

Interludes tend to be shorter than normal chapters, but I have a lot of fun with them anyway.

Speaker of Tongues: Chapter 3

As we count down to the release of Speaker of Tongues, I’m sharing its first five chapters.

Today, we continue on with Chapter 3, in which militant lizard people are a thing. And maybe not a bad one.

An introduction to Speaker of Tongues

Happy June, everyone! It turns out I have a book releasing in… *checks notes*… six days?!?! How the hell did that happen? And… shouldn’t I be posting about it?

Well, yeah, I definitely should. So, let’s get into it with an introduction to Speaker of Tongues, Book 1 of The (Second) Life of Brian.

Speaker of Tongues is my take on the LitRPG genre, marrying the concept of game-like progression mechanics (stats, skills, levels, etc.) to a more slow-burn epic fantasy with party-based adventuring....
