2020 Mid-year Review
For the last two years, I’ve had a blog post listing my writing goals for the coming year. Making those goals public has been a great way of both letting you all know what’s coming and holding myself accountable, and I suspect I’ll continue the practice for years to come.
2020 is, of course, a very unique year; a collection of individual hellscapes somehow packed into 7.5 months. Nevertheless, another quarter has come and gone, and it’s well past time for me to check back in on the year’s goals ...

June: Release Retrospective
Hello, world! After taking some time to relax after the release of my comedic urban fantasy, Investigation, Mediation, Vindication, I’m back! I have status updates on sequels, thoughts on 2021 releases, and more, but the main thing I wanted to talk about is last month’s book release. How did it go? What was the response like? Have I replaced all of the toilets in my house with solid gold equivalents, or am I wisely choosing to swap them out on a floor-by-floor basis? All this and more in today’s...

Investigation, Mediation, Vindication: Release Day, Advance Review Round-up, and Content Warnings

Release Day
This is it. Today is the day. Seven years after I sat down and wrote the first words of what would become Investigation, Mediation, Vindication, I am now finally sharing the entire book with the world. Finally, you all get to join John Smith on his journey.
Punk-rock vampires, sports-obsessed goblins, insane demigods, exiled queens, and one much-beloved Toyota Corolla… It all starts here, and I’m hoping you all enjoy the book (and eventually the entire seven-book series) as much as ...

The Stats Behind Investigation, Mediation, Vindication
Before tomorrows release of Investigation, Mediation, Vindication, I thought it would be fun to once again share some of the (mainly ridiculous) stats behind the book. How many times does the main character faint? What 2013 San Diego references are no longer viable in 2020? All this and more!
[image error] The Words# of words in Investigation, Mediation, Vindication: 98,226
A Game of Thrones: 298,000
See These Bones: 131,150

Investigation, Mediation, Vindication: Chapter 5
Im counting down to the May 19th release of Investigation, Mediation, Vindication by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. In the previous four chapters, John nearly died at the pincers of two attacking crab cosplayers, learned that supernatural creatures were a thing, and that San Diegos fate rests on his ability to mediate between two opposing forces. Despite the fact that hes not actually a mediator. In the last of our sample chapters, the...

Investigation, Mediation, Vindication: Chapter 4
Im counting down to the May 19th release of Investigation, Mediation, Vindication by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. In previous chapters, John nearly died at the pincers of two attacking crab cosplayers, learned that supernatural creatures were a thing, and discovered that the woman who saved his life had come to hire him as a mediator. Even though hes not a mediator. In Chapter 4, we learn a little bit more about what the hell is...

Investigation, Mediation, Vindication: Chapter 3
Ill be counting down to the May 19th release of Investigation, Mediation, Vindication by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. In previous chapters, John nearly died at the pincers of two attacking crab cosplayers, and has learned that it was because of a Yellow Pages ad he placed (while drunk) that identified him as a mediator. The problem is that he is not, in fact, a mediator. Chapter 3 picks up right after he discloses that information to...

See These Bones: Author Interview
Its time to take a quick break from promotional posts for Investigation, Mediation, Vindication! Earlier this year, I was fortunate to be interviewed for an indie author spotlight by Jess Carpenter, author of the forthcoming romcom, Les is More.
Whats my writing process like? Why do I write in the SFF genre? Whats my favorite reaction to See These Bones? The interview covers all of that and more. Ive included a small excerpt below:
What is your work schedule like when youre writing?
First, I...

Investigation, Mediation, Vindication: Chapter 2
Ill be counting down to the May 19th release of Investigation, Mediation, Vindication by sharing sample chapters, advance reviews, content warnings, and whatever else seems fun. In Chapter 1, our hero, John, nearly died at the pincers of two attacking crab cosplayers. Chapter 2 picks up with the woman who saved his life and kept this from being a very, very short book.
Start with the shoes.
Its something my old boss and mentor taught me when...
