Sententia #3
So there's this manuscript I'm on...CORMORANT FISHING IN AMERICA. It's this Brautigan-esque, experimental send-up of some semi-autobiographical and wholly surreal times, places, and things.
It's far from done, but the fine folks at Sententia have seen fit to publish some excerpts of it in what's slated to be a 'pitch edition' of the magazine -- one that aims to pair works-in-progress with a editors and presses interested in putting the finished book out. It's slated as at least a novella -- though it does keep growing, so who knows where it'll be by the end. I am excited to announce it here, and hope anyone curious will gamble on a copy.
In other news: After some wrangling, I've managed to convince the folks HERE to publish a short story of mine. I join an esteemed list of writers already published, with promises of future fireworks. The story will be live in a couple months, but I am excited about it, and though I would share it early.
Last but not least: I'm not proud of it. But, at the very least, having this will eliminate some kind of future doubt as to why I haven't made it as a writer. And I guess on that day I'll have only myself to blame...because I now have THIS.

The Beautiful Fire...
Mel Bosworth, author of FREIGHT [which is due out in September -- hint, hint], boldly proves that the eBooks work on his Kindle!
Also, the kind folks over at Vouched give WRETCHED a few kind lines.
And for the hell of it...a reading of my gorgeous broadside from 10pt Press. Rumor has it there's a few copies left...I'm just saying...

Guess I Jumped the Gun...
...because just as soon as I posted about the good mentions on Tuesday, these nice things happened:
WRETCHED keeps on trucking...
And the eBook gets some love!

Good words...
Ben Tanzer and Joseph Ridgwell both got some ether-ink this past week here and here respectively and were kind enough to mention me. Thanks to both for the mention. If you don't know their work yet -- you've got something to look forward to. And if you do, well I'm not telling you anything you don't already know when I say they both write really fun and approachable books. Put them at the top of your 'gotta check these out' list.

New Broadside - Artistically Declined Press
The fine folks at Artistically Declined Press have printed up a broadside featuring my poem:
Languid, These Days Between Holocausts,
Listless, These Days Between
The Pyre & the Womb...
How can you get this bad boy? Simple - it comes free with orders from the Artistically Declined Store.
I can personally recommend You Can Make Him Like You by Ben Tanzer and will soon be getting hold of Prize Winners by Ryan Bradley, and I'd even like a little stash of these Scout Books. Were I a rich man I'd likely own the whole catalog!
You you're a rich man or woman, you should buy them all too!
Last but not least: have you been desperate to buy my $.99 2Shot eBook, but have a Kindle and were unable to find me in your Kindle store? Well, your ship has finally come in! It seems the eBook now appears in the U.S. store, the U.K. store, and the German store. I'm anxiously anticipating the day when my sales reports no longer read: 'There are no sales to report during this period."
What about 2Shot#1 you ask? Well, unfortunately there is no free eBook option at Kindle so (fortunately) #1 in the 2Shot Series (aka: the free one) is only available via smashwords!

Another Two/Shot
And so here comes the filthy, ugly man
rattling the rusty cup
with his hand out...
For those who have checked out the first of my Two/Shots, I'm happy to announce the next. For those who didn't know, I'm releasing short stories, two at a time, as eBooks. The first has been out for a while, and is free. The new Two/Shot features "We Might Just Save This Night Yet" a short story originally published in the gorgeous, all-hardback & clamshell Bottle of Smoke production called Athenaeum, as well as an unpublished story "Japanese Maple."
No eReader? No problem! The stories are present in what techno-types tell me is a wide array of eReading choices--including the troglodyte laptop or ancient desktop computer (so even I can read them!).
Now, the bad news: the new eBook is $.99, a hair shy of a buck, or, by way of comparison--the change you've got floating around in your car, or lost down the couch cushions. So I think we can all agree, in this brutal economy, those are FRIEND PRICES! Plus--if you consider the first free Two/Shot--you're basically getting 4 short stories for less than a one dollar U.S....or, for you bean counters out there, 24.25 cents per story!
And, as always, all proceeds go directly to keeping me in the lavish hot-dog-fried-rice-and-ice-water lifestyle that over a decade of small press writing has afforded me!

Man oh man, that is one sweet deal...
on eBay HERE.
For any of you following here who don't have these two sold-out books...I found this today and so far there are no bids.
Hell, even with shipping they are less that original cover price. Act fast, this deal ain't going to capitalize on itself!

ONLY IN THE SUN is sold out, but THE FIX is available (though it must be pretty damn close to being sold out too). Don't quote me on it, but they are the only places I've found to read lots of his terrific work.
And they are beautifully made, by a human being, with his own two hands... so there's that too.
See what I mean? Awesome!

Waltzing Matilda...
'Why Waltzing Matilda,' you ask? Well hot off the eRacks: skive magazine published by Matthew Ward of Australia's Mary Celeste Press. There are US and Non-US purchasing options for the print edition, and an eBook (or is it eMag?) for those that prefer. And if that ain't enough, there's also a free PDF Sampler for anyone on the fence hemming and hawing.
As to for gorgeous new cover for my first (free!) 2Shot--courtesy of the unending talents of Sean Lynch--I suppose the thread here is a loose one at best: the main character in Taco Fairy goes for a little walkabout in the story, and probably ends up regretting it. The 2Shot has also been added at Goodreads--so add it to your shelf.
And, just for the hell of it, if you aren't familiar with the Pogues tune "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" take a few minutes and give it a listen--a song so good it don't need no stinkin' video!

"& what if she would've just taken the ear."
The fine folks at featherproof books have offer up yet another of their brilliant, free mini-books...this one by Molly Gaudry. As a snazzy-cool bonus, they were kind enough to credit me for the aforementioned line--borrowed from 'For All These Wretched, Beautiful, & Insignificant Things So Uselessly & Carelessly Destroyed...'
Not only is Molly is a small press champion, but--man--she's just good people. As if that's not enough, she's also a whip-smart, & razor-lined writer...call her a modern McCullers...as evidenced in 'Portrait of a Modern Family,' and her other fine work. Check them out--both Molly and featherproof are worth a good look.
