Bookworks Reading - Wed. Feb 26th, 2014

What looks to be the final reading for A Deep & Gorgeous Thirst will be this Wednesday and one of Albuquerque’s best-loved independent bookstores, Bookworks. Think: Drunk Poems punctuated by prizes, a Q&A and signing to follow. Stop by the table to get a free broadside, made by the incomparable Bill Roberts of Bottle of Smoke Press. There were even a few nice words in our underground rag, The Alibi...so many thanks to editor Lisa Barrow for the ink!

One of my living literary heroes, Tony O’Neill had this to say about the book: "Because writing and drinking go hand in hand,  it may seem an impossible challenge for a poet to offer new perspective of this well-worn, symbiotic relationship.  But Hosho McCreesh does, and in his brilliant collection "A Deep and Gorgeous Thirst" he uses subject matter that might feel old and tired in the hands of a less capable poet and turns out poem after poem as exciting and irresistible as the first flush of new desire." If you don’t know Tony’s work -- find it. His poetry collection Songs From the Shooting Gallery is the quintessential Hollywood heroin book.

TNNBC + Bookworks

Well, Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow, which everyone knows means six more weeks of A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST! Actually it’s 3 more weeks...and what’s in store for these 3 weeks?

First: The TNNBC at Goodreads is hosting the Author/Reader Discussion. It starts Sunday the 16th, and lasts a week. If there’s anything you’ve been dying to ask me about the book, well, the stars have aligned, and you prayers have been answered -- you will soon have your chance.

And at the end of the month: A Reading/Q&A/Signing at Albuquerque’s Favorite Independent Bookstore, Bookworks. I’ll be raffling off recycled wine-bottle glasses etched with the DrunkSkull logo, and a copy of the book. So if you’re in the greater Albuquerque area on Feb 26th, at 7pm -- I hope you’ll stop in.

A Deep & Gorgeous Author/Reader Discussion!

The Next Best Book Club will soon be hosting an Author/Reader Discussion on A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST.

“What’s that,” you ask? Simple: you post a question about the book, and I do my best to answer it. The discussion runs from Feb. 16th through the 22nd, so start thinking about your questions!

Can’t think of any questions because you don’t have the book? Well, THIS LINK will solve that!

Merry New Year!!!

Well well well...looks like we got ourselves a new year...and while 2013 might be hard to top, we’re starting off with a bang!

And by “bang” I mean give-away, over at Goodreads with the fine folks of The Next Best Book Club. Yes -- if you’re in the U.S. and agree to partake in a little discussion of the book in February, well you can win 1 of 6 print copies available by posting a comment HERE. Not in the U.S.? Well you can win a PDF copy -- what with shipping costs being what they are.

And speaking of February...if you’ll be in the great Albuquerque area, and are so inclined -- Bookworks (probably Albuquerque’s best known and best loved independent bookstore) as invited me to read, answer questions, and generally just yammer on about the book. They also have copies on the shelves as we speak -- so if you want to get one straight away -- now you can! Info about the event can be found HERE.

And last but not least -- A Deep & Gorgeous Thirst landed on William Boyle’s Favorite Books of 2013...many thanks William! You can see all his favorites from 2013 (or drop in to tell him how smart, handsome, or insightful he is) HERE.

Happy 2014...and here’s mud in your eye!

Friday Night Jamboree & Hootenanny...

So the latest photo of A DEEP & GORGEOUS THIRST on the shelves in a bookstore comes from Caliban’s -- the best independent bookstore in Pittsburgh. If you’re in the 3 Rivers area and need a damn good read, well, problem solved!

Also, a buddy of my wrote me into a comic book -- so I am now a character in the Valiant universe! Get yourself a copy of SHADOWMAN #12, out in comic shops now. In the story written by my buddy Duffy Boudreau (who writes BlackAcre for Image Comics), Hosho McCreery is a powerful man who, when drunk, accidentally opens up portals to other dimensions. Opps! He’s tortured, tough, built, and good looking...no word yet on which of those things the character and I have in common!

Last but not least: another reading then, this one at ArtBar on Sunday November 17th. Doors open at 4pm. The event is to benefit NMFetLife, an organization that raises awareness about many issues facing NM’s alternate lifestyle population. Flags of all stripes will proudly be flown! I’m honored to be included. If you missed the book release event and want to hear me read, I’ll be there.

Book Release Event Audio

The book release I held at Tractor Brewing Company’s Taproom in Nob Hill was a heck of a lot of fun. We sold books and DrunkSkull stuff, and I even read a few poems. Here’s audio of the reading -- fast & loose -- 5 poems from A Deep & Gorgeous Thirst.

Speaking of readings: THIS is happening. If you’re in Albuquerque a week from tomorrow, then stop in. Light refreshments are promised. There will be poems. And I’ll have books -- if you’re in the market for a copy of something! I’d like to go on record as saying -- being called Oktoberfest of Poetry, I think it’s only right that someone sneak in some beer!

Yep.

That’s my book on the “Our Staff Recommends” shelves of a Barnes & Noble in Portland, Oregon.

You can get it from ADP, me, and all kinds of online spots -- but if you want to save shipping, you can walk into just about any bookstore in America and have them order you a copy.

Tell them to order extras while you’re at it.

The DrunkSkull Diaries

So let’s be joyous instead.

Monday began the first of my short run blogging for Tractor Brewing Co. about my forthcoming book A Deep & Gorgeous Thirst, poetry, and the many virtues of the small press. The blog will appear every Monday, between now and October 6th -- the book release event. Read it HERE.

As for the book: I have held copies in my hand. It is a wonder to behold. Official release date is 16 September, and the special editions will begin shipping as soon as I am back from helping make them on the 25th.

There is less than a week left to enter the giveaway at Goodreads, and to save $2 by ordering from ADP. I can’t wait to hear what you all think of it!
