Michaela Grant travels to Scotland for a holiday, knowing this vacation is her last. A medical condition threatens her life and any chance of a future—until she meets Alan MacLachlin, a man forced to exist between two worlds.

Alan is the legendary Loch Ness Monster. Once every fifty years he returns to human form in search of his soul mate, the one woman who can break his curse. He believes he has found forever with Michaela, but to claim it he must figure out how to save her life.

Michaela and Alan vow to take what time has to offer, but another threat looms. A sinister shape shifter with a vendetta against Alan is making Loch Ness his personal hunting ground. Now he’s threatening Michaela. Alan must discover who the shifter is and stop him before it’s too late.

Update: This is a few paragraphs after last week. Dougal tried and failed to replace the lid and keep the water spirits contained in the well. The clan escapes the village with love ones and only a few belongings...

Now for the snippet:

***************************************************************************************************

Huddled together, they watched in horror as

water poured down the mountainside in an explosion

of raging waves like a greedy beast devouring

everything in its wake. The watery death showed no

mercy as it swept the dwellings, plants and trees

away. The valley flooded into a dark pool, whitecaps

glittering in the sun’s light.

“Why have the gods forsaken us?” one of the

women cried in a choked voice.

“It was Gordana’s doin’,” Ronson accused,

pointing his finger at her.

(Two Sentences More for Weekend Warriors)Alan turned toward his sister, hoping for a

denial. Instead, tears spilled down her face and guilt

lit her eyes.

****************************************************************************************************

Someone has to pay for leaving the lid off the well. Looks like Alan's sister is the guilty party. Find out next week how Alan deals with the news that his sister is to blame for their misfortune.

“Spread the word that we must head for higher ground. Help Gordana and her son.”

“On my way.” Hyatt hurried toward their sister’s dwelling, shouting the alarm as he went.

“Take only a few meager belongins,” Alan warned when he spotted some of the women trying

to carry more than they could handle. “There is no’ time.”

Six Sentence Sunday: Magic of the Loch, The Legend Begins…

sixsundayheaderIt's Six Sentence Sunday and this is the a snippet from Magic of the Loch. It's been a while since I shared a snippet. I thought I go back to the beginning and the legend.

In this scene: This is how the legend of the loch began. Alan's clan watches over a magical well, a gift from the gods. The water can heal ailments and keep the clan young and strong. After they draw water from the well, they must keep the well covered with a lid or else the water spirits will escape. The consequences are dire when the rules are not followed...

Ronson and Dougal are on guard this night, a precaution from attack from other clans. Dougal's horn wakes the village with its warning and Ronson runs to the village, knowing the clan will be doomed if they do not move at once. Ronson is speaking to Alan.

***************************************************************************************************

Now for the six:

"The water spirits are angry and seekin’ vengeance.

Water pours out of the well like a river,

headin’ straight toward us. Dougal is tryin’ to stop it,

but it’s too late. Even if he finds the lid, he cannae

secure it the way the water is ragin’ out of control.”

Dougal’s horn was abruptly silenced as if the

instrument had been ripped from his grasp. The

stillness, like a hush spreading over them, proved

worse than the resound warning.

“Dougal failed.”

*****************************************************************************************************

I hope you enjoyed the six. Like always, I love to know what you thought.

The Next Big Thing: No Soul Is Safe..

Hi Everyone,

Stephanie Burkhart tagged me for the “Next Big Thing” and I’m here to answer a few questions:

SoulTaker_KarenMichelleNutt_finalThumbnailQuestion: What is the title of your book?

Soul Taker.

Question: Where did the idea come from for the book?

A few years ago, I wrote a werewolf tale, Moon Shifter featuring the Mac Tire, and in Twilight’s Eternal Embrace, I introduced the vampire septs in Ireland and other countries. I wanted to write an Urban Fantasy with these creatures of the night, taking the readers into the mysterious aspects of Boston and Salem, and hopefully give them a few bizarre supernatural thrills along the way.

Question: What genre does your book fall under?

Urban Fantasy/Suspense/ Contemporary (There is a romance, but it plays a minor role in the story.)

Question: What actors would you choose to play in the movie rendition?

The vampire (Scottish) Garran MacLaurin: Chris Hemsworth (Thor)

Harrison Connell (werewolf): Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood)

Isabella Lucci (Necromancer) Amanda Seyfried (Only with dark hair. She has those incredible eyes that my character has.)

Soul Taker/Alexander MacLaurin – Alex Pettyfer (He played a convincing bad guy in the movie “In Time”).

Question: What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?

A vampire, a werewolf and a Necromancer, are a most unlikely team, but Garran, Harrison and Isabella plan on putting a stop to the dubbed Soul Taker’s plans—even if it means raising the dead.

Question: Where can we get your book?

It will be available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other online bookstores.

Question: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I started the story 2008 and had written 45k, but there was something missing with it and couldn’t put my finger on it. So I put it to the side. New projects were started and I forgot about the MS until last year. I opened the MS and re-read what I had written and I knew what was needed to spark the story to life. Two months later I had it finished and ready to submit. It was accepted and will be published around April or May 2013. I don’t have the exact date yet.

Question: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Keri Arthur’s books or so I’ve been told. I’ve never read any of Ms. Arthur’s books.

Question: What else about the book might pique the reader's interest?

If you like suspense, legends and raising the dead, you’ll enjoy this story.

The next stop on the Next Biggest Thing (Monday, 21 JAN 2013) will be with the talented Tessa Berkley at: http://tessaberkleyauthor.blogspot.com/
