Welcome to Snippet Sunday. This is another snippet from Magic of the Loch. Today's snippet is a couple of sentences later from last week.

Set up: Alan's asked Michaela if she has a someone special back home. We pick up with her response... But Michaela will also bring up the incident earlier in the evening when the older man came barging in with accusations and wanting to pick a fight with Alan. (An incident from a previous Snippet Sunday.)

“We ended things...well, let’s just say we didn’t see eye to eye and I didn’t have the luxury of time to
help him understand.”
Alan's prolonged stare of compassion and understanding sent a rush of desire coiling through her.
She fidgeted in her seat, trying to shake the uncanny attraction she felt for this man and decided to refocus the conversation on him: “So why was Ethan so angry with you?”
His eyelids lowered, but not before she realized her question wounded him in some way.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pried.”
His finger traced the rim of his glass as he replied, “When ye have lived as long as I have ye’ll understand that sometimes ye try to do what’s right, but it isnae always for the best."
"You couldn’t be more than thirty something...not much older than I am.”
“I’ve aged weel,” he said as his lips curved into a sensual temptation...

“Okay, if there is such a thing as soul mates, how would you know you’d found yours?”
“I would feel the magic.”
Michaela lifted her brows not believing such nonsense, but his gaze touched hers and within the depths of his eyes laid the truth, the longing, the pain and wisdom of a much older man. She blinked and looked away confused.
“Is there no one waitin’ for ye at home then?” Alan asked again.
Blake, she thought, but that wasn’t true. He wanted to fix her, make her better, but it wasn’t the same as loving her. In all fairness, she didn’t love him either, at least not in the earth shattering way Alan described.

So many ways to love someone... Alan has Michaela thinking about her past relationships... I'd say she hasn't found the 'one and only'.

Set up: Last week Michaela was shocked to find her thoughts had wandered into fantasy territory. She was quite glad Alan could not read her mind. lol This scene takes place a few paragraphs later.

He may be a brooding man, but he was still a man regardless of his claim of waiting for a soul mate. She couldn’t imagine him waiting to have sex with his one true love, but she had a hunch casual sex didn’t fit his persona either and she had to ask: “Do you truly believe there’s a soul mate waiting for you?”
“I need to hope. I take it ye never been in love.”
“Of course I have, but the relationships didn’t last.” His lips curved into a ghost of a smile and the thought rankled her that she'd amused him in some way. “Listen, Alan—”
He didn’t wait for her to finish and said, “There was somethin’ missin’ in these relationships of yers, aye?”

“How come ye made this holiday by yerself? Do ye no’ have a man waitin’ for ye back home?”
“Like you said, some relationships aren’t meant to be,” she said, frowning as the realization hit her like a sledgehammer. Her time was up. There would be no more dating, no more relationships… damn, no more sex for that matter. Unfortunately, her libido didn’t listen to her brain. Her gaze slid over the man in front of her and her mind went wild with thoughts of running her hands beneath his sweater and over his hard abs, making her wondered if he had a trail of dark hair leading down below the waistline of his jeans to where—“Jesus,” the word slipped out beneath her breath.
