Busy Times and Boston Book Fest (#TheSundayPost)

It's been a busy couple of weeks since returning to work. I've had training days, new classes to meet and test, medical appointments for my daughter, choir practice and my first ever writing workshop at Boston Book Fest. There's been a lot of rushing around and not much "me time".

Skegness, Kew Gardens and Book Swag (#TheSundayPost)

We spent bank holiday weekend at Kew Gardens in Southwest London. It was a long journey to get there (about 4 hours) but we had a lovely time. We stayed at Warren House, a beautiful 1865 Victorian hotel.

Working Hard or Hardly Working? #WednesdayHodgepodge (2)

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Here are my answers to this week’s questions, which are all about working.

1. Something you’ve laboured over recently?

I’m hardly working rather than working hard at the moment because I’m on my summer break. However, I decided to sort out my wardrobe today as it was bursting at the seams with clothes that either didn’t fit or weren’t my style anymore. I went through the whole lot and organised some bags to take to charity. It felt good to get rid of some of the smaller sized cloth...

Stacking the Shelves (21): Mystery parcel & blog buddy books

Stacking the Shelves

Today I’m sharing the haul of books I bought, acquired or borrowed in August 2022 for Stacking the Shelves, a meme hosted by Reading Reality.

Purchases

I got some mystery paperback books from The Works last week for £1 each (proceeds to charity) and I was delighted when I opened them to discover a fantasy trilogy which has been on my wish list for a while.

Back to School Memories, Summer Food & Worries #WednesdayHodgepodge (1)

Wednesday Hodgepodge

This is the first time I’ve taken part in the Wednesday Hodgepodge, but I’ve been reading the posts for a while and it seems like fun. Here are my answers to this week’s questions:

1. August is National Back To School Month…how does that make you feel? Share a back-to-school memory.

Well, we don’t start back to school until September here, so August is still about sun, fun and family time for me. My husband and I both work in secondary schools, so I still associate this time of yea...

Anstice in Wonderland (#TheSundayPost)

the sunday postThe Latest in my Life ☀

I’ve had a great week enjoying the sunshine and spending time with family and friends. On Monday, we visited Hubbards Hills in Louth, one of my favourite woodlands. It was beautiful weather for a paddle in the stream and a walk in the shade of the trees. My daughter spotted a little boy wearing a Dexcom (continuous glucose monitor) just like hers and went to say hello. We were pretty tired after all that walking so we had dinner at our local Brewer’s Fayre pub on th...

Stacking the Shelves (20): Birthday Haul 2022

stacking the shelves

Today I’m sharing the haul of books I bought, acquired or borrowed recently for Stacking the Shelves, a meme hosted by Reading Reality.

Purchases

I snagged a few bargains from a charity shop for the grand total of £1! They were 50p each and there was a “buy two, get one free” offer! So, I couldn’t afford not to, really.

The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will be Glad That You Did) book cover. The cover is bright orange with white text and a blue spine but there are no images. Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan book cover, featuring a character in a wolf or Jackal shaped armoured mask and a teen boy and girl with swords in the foreground. Hetty Feather by Jaqueline Wilson book cover, featuring an illustration of a Victorian girl and circus animals against a bright, stripy background. It says,

I’ve not read any of Rick Riordan’s books in full yet, but I couldn’t resist this gorgeous hardback at that price. Hopefully, it will be good. The non...

Do I Strive for Originality? (#IWSG Aug 2022)

writing update

I’m afraid I’m late posting as I completely forgot what day of the week it was. Before I get onto my views on originality, a quick writing update. I’m off work for the summer holidays and I’ve been planning some short stories for a few anthology calls that close at the end of August. I’m also developing an idea for an autobiographical novella in verse.

Goodbye Pain, Hello Summer! (#TheSundayPost)

the sunday postThe Latest in my Life ☀

Things are looking up for me this summer. After having my upper left wisdom tooth extracted on the 22nd of June, the daily headaches and sinus pain I had since January subsided and I now no longer need to take naproxen or co-codamol. It’s made a huge difference to me as I was starting to get really down. I can’t believe one tooth caused all that hassle!

The management of my daughter’s Type 1 Diabetes is going a little better too, which has helped with my stress ...

Awaken: A Love Story by Elizabeth Mueller-now on #KindleVella !

Awaken: A Love Story book cover, featuring a woman with flowing white hair embracing a dark-haired man underwater

Today, I’m delighted to share a new release from Elizabeth Mueller, an extremely talented speculative fiction author, artist and admin for the Insecure Writers’ Support Group. I had the pleasure of working with Elizabeth a few years ago to promote an anthology we both appeared in, Masquerade: Oddly Suited, and her creativity and kindness made a lasting impression. I was so excited when I heard about her latest book as it sounds right up my street!

Awaken: A Love Story is a dystopian sci-f...
