Wolverine #2 Cover Sketch

Wolverine Savage 2 cover prelim sketch FRANK CHO

Wolverine is coming along great. At the rate I’m going, I should have the first story arc completely finished or nearly finished when they launch in January.

It’s been a pure delight on my part to work on this book. I can’t thank Axel Alonso and Marvel enough for taking a huge risk on me by giving me complete control in writing and drawing this flagship book. I think this may be the best work I’ve done at Marvel, and I hope people will enjoy reading it as much I had in creating it.

Here’s the cover sketch to Wolverine issue #2. You can see the final version next month in Marvel solicitation for February release.

Enjoy.

Wolverine Battle Royale

Wolverine Savage FRANK CHO

I’m at the Dallas Comic Con this weekend and having a great time hanging out with two of my favorite professionals in the business, Howard Chaykin and Geof Darrow. It’s always a delight and an education listening to both talk about the comic industry history and their analysis of obscure movies and books. (Howard should write a book on the unseen side of the comic business and its professionals. It would be a fantastic and insightful read.)

So far this Dallas Comic Con has been a fun and entertaining show for me, which I hope to repeat in the future.

Wolverine update:

Things are running along great on the Wolverine front. Two issues are in the can and I’m halfway through issue #3. Today’s picture is my giant double page Wolverine splash that I’m currently working on. Enjoy.

Wolverine Oil Painting and Dallas Comic-Con

Wolverine Savage FRANK CHO

FRANK CHO - Savage Wolverine #1 Variant Cover art - click to view full image

Marvel just released the cover image of the variant cover for my Savage Wolverine #1 in the January Diamond Preview solicitation. This is a special cover for me. This is my very first oil painting cover for Marvel.

I had blast painting this cover but the time and effort it took to paint this wasn’t feasible for me to keep doing more on a continual basis as I originally envisioned. My plan was to oil paint all the Wolverine covers for my story arc, but I just couldn’t afford the time. The drying time for oil paint was long and maddening when you’re on a tight schedule.

However that being said. I enjoyed oil painting immensely, so I will do more in the future if and when time permits.

Dallas Comic-Con

I’m flying out to Dallas for Dallas Comic-Con: Fan Days at Irving Convention Center this weekend.

This is my first time back in the Dallas area in about 10 years so I have no idea what to expect. Because of this unknown factor, I only brought limited amount of crap to sell. (Liberty Meadows calendars and art prints.) So come early and fast if you want any crap of mine.
