Ginger May Help You Lose Weight And Feel Great
The old wives’ tale might be true: ginger helps when you try to relieve a queasy stomach during pregnancy. It can also work by getting rid of mucus build-ups in the intestines and breaking down candida. It can also help cure nausea or seasickness brought on by chemotherapy. If you eat ginger in small amounts it can also reduce the severity of motion sickness. Ginger may also help you lose weight.
When using ginger might seem like it is helpful for a few symptoms. Your body will probably tell you it is working, but unless you are one hundred percent sure you need to stick with your high blood sugar and take other steps to stop nausea caused by low blood sugar. If you do not take precautions and use caution it can even lead to hypoglycemia. Keep in mind that ginger can cause a mild rash when it irritates the skin, particularly around the nose and cheeks. However, if you do get a rash it is usually only temporary and will go away on its own.
If you have an ongoing problem with your blood sugar and the feeling is getting worse you should see your doctor. The doctor will probably recommend a trial of insulin to bring your glucose levels back up. Your doctor may also suggest that you try ginger may help keep your blood sugar from remaining low after meals. You may also consider using natural insulin products including that from arrowroot.
However, if you are suffering from nausea caused by diabetes, high blood sugar, or a chronic disease like cancer, ginger may not be enough to help you. In these cases you need to add more supplements to your diet. One of the best natural ingredients you can use for this purpose is guarana. Guarana contains a lot of antioxidants and some people believe it can actually prevent cancer. They also say that ginger could help protect the body against free radicals that could also lead to heart disease. Free radicals are made by stomach acid, cigarette smoke, and pollution.
Now here are two things you could do to see if ginger may help you. The first is to make a ginger and avocado smoothie. You would take the smoothie and blend in two cups of yogurt. You could also add a dash of vanilla extract and two tablespoons of guarana. It is best if you add the yogurt to the smoothie while it is still cold so that it does not curdle.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Next you could eat the yogurt that you have blended and two ounces of guarana. You should be able to feel a difference in how your stomach feels after you eat. You should also consider how your stomach responds to this. If it is too gassy then you might be adding too much ginger or if it is too flat then you might be getting guarana too soon. The idea is to find what works for you and make sure that you are not overdoing it.
There are other things that ginger may help with such as cramps and bloating. This is why it is good to use ginger in any recipe where you normally would use a cream or milk to add that extra bit of moisture. In fact, if you have a spicy salsa to make with fresh ginger and tomatoes then you should use guarana instead of the milk and sugar to add that extra zip to your meal.
It is believed that ginger may help reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is a very common type of cancer and there are many things that are thought to help fight it such as exercise and diet. It is possible that ginger may help to boost the immune system by inhibiting the growth of certain cells. This could be the answer to getting rid of your prostate’s bothersome symptoms.

How Untreated Food Reactivity Affects the Whole Body
How Untreated Food Reactivity Affects the Whole Body
By Dr. Chad Larson, NMD, DC, CCN, CSCS, Advisor and Consultant on Clinical Consulting Team for Cyrex Laboratories
What is Food Reactivity? Food Reactivity is typically described as your body’s adverse reaction to food. Many of us could be eating foods regularly that are causing consistent inflammation. This type of inflammation left untreated can affect our whole body.
Our gut microbiome interacts with the microbiome of all of the organs in our body, including our brain. When our microbiomes are unhealthy, we become more susceptible to food sensitivities, autoimmune diseases and neurological damage.
Increased intestinal permeability, also known as “leaky gut,” can contribute to food sensitivities. Undigested proteins can “leak” into the bloodstream alerting the immune system, often resulting in antibody attacks on the proteins. These antibody reactions can further disrupt the integrity of the intestinal barrier, potentially causing abnormal inflammation and immune activation in other parts of the body. The health of the gut has a direct influence on the health of the rest of the body. Among other things, it digests food, extracts nutrients, curates the microbiome, and supports our immune system.
Beyond the obvious connection between food and the gut, there are other conditions that food immune reactivity can initiate or exacerbate. In fact, untreated food reactivity can have serious and long-term effects. Here are a few of the most prevalent conditions:
Celiac disease – Probably the most well known autoimmune disease brought on by a dietary protein, celiac disease, is triggered by the ingestion of gluten causing the immune system to attack and damage the small intestine This leads to a deficiency in the absorption of nutrients, which can result in malnutrition. According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, 2.5 million Americans are undiagnosed, making them at risk for long-term health conditions, including the onset of other autoimmune diseases, such as Type-1 diabetes and multiple sclerosis. But the list goes on as untreated patients can also be at risk for anemia, osteoporosis and neurological conditions such as epilepsy and migraines.
Thyroid conditions – Many hypothyroid and autoimmune thyroid patients experience reactions to specific foods. Additionally, food interactions may play a role in a subset of individuals who have difficulty finding a suitable thyroid hormone dosage. One study was designed to investigate the potential role of dietary protein immune reactivity with thyroid hormones and thyroid axis target sites. Once an individual loses immune tolerance to a food or dietary protein, the antibodies reacting to that food can cross-react with organ tissues, such as components of the thyroid gland, potentially initiating autoimmunity.
Migraines – Another study was conducted to investigate food triggers to migraines. The investigation looked at the effect of diet restriction, based on IgG antibodies against food antigens on the course of migraine attacks in this headache diary based trial on 30 patients diagnosed with migraine without aura. Scientists concluded that diet restriction based on IgG antibodies is an effective strategy in reducing the frequency of migraine attacks.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) – Frequent abdominal cramps, diarrhea and constipation can indicate a multitude of conditions. But when you experience all of these symptoms erratically and frequently, it could indicate that you are suffering from IBS. Specific food testing has been used in studies with IBS, showing that eliminating IgG-positive foods alleviated symptoms.
Untreated food reactivity can exasperate or induce the onset of autoimmune disease. Therefore, testing for food sensitivities is paramount to the treatment and prevention of these chronic conditions. Along with food sensitivity testing, doctors also evaluate the health of the patient’s immune system by ordering total immunoglobulin levels. Immunoglobulins are antibodies or proteins, and there are three types: IgA, IgG, IgE and IgM. These proteins fight off infections and foreign invaders in our bodies. Too few immunoglobulin proteins make us more susceptible to infection, whereas too many can indicate an overactive immune system. Therefore, high levels can signal an elevated potential for autoimmune disease.
If you are suffering from inflammation, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression or any of the symptoms mentioned above, please consult with your primary care physician and consider testing for your immunoglobulin levels and food sensitivities. The gut holds the key to our health!

Temper Tantrum at Age 10
My ten year old daughter still hasn’t outgrown temper tantrums. She was frustrated with her homework this evening and decided she would scream, yell and not listen to her father. She should have just tried her best to complete the homework assignment.
Like most ten year olds my daughter loves to spend time on the computer. When she threw her fit we took computer time away from her. This caused her to scream even more.
She is active on a website called wetpaint.com. On this site users can create web pages together and become “members” of each others sites. My daughter acted like it was the end of the world because she couldn’t use the computer tonight.
http://www.viddler.com/simple_on_site/311e67d3
For more information on how you can control your child‘s temper tantrums visit:
Tantrum Stomper.com
I have learned that every child responds to discipline differently. Some children learn from just being sent to their room while for others going to ones room could be a reward. If you are having difficulty disciplining your child try different things. What does your child enjoy doing? Taking away privileges can work on some children ages 8-teen. If you have younger children try using rewards for good behavior.
When my daughter was 8 we made a princess chart. We used a sheet of poster board and created a “Princess castle.” Her princess moved up the steps when she behaved. When her princess made it to the castle she was able to open a window to find a reward. I used simple things for rewards such as going out for ice cream, or spend $5 on a toy at the store. If she wanted a bigger reward she could save up her windows and get something like a new computer game. For boys you could use a race car. When the car finishes the race he can peel back a tire to find his reward.
We are still working on controlling our ten year old’s temper. I swear sometimes I think she is ten going on sixteen! Good luck to you with your children!

Herbal Remedies and Treatments Using Echinacea
Echinacea has been used as a medicinal herb since ancient times. This powerful yet gentle herb has been used to treat everything from colds, fever, to mouth sores. In recent years it has gained popularity for treating acne, fatigue, allergies, and fatigue. Echinacea isn’t just a powerful natural antioxidant – it also boosts the immune system and reduces stress.
Echinacea was first discovered by the ancient Egyptians, when they realized that it helped many diseases. For many years, echinacea has been used as a common herbal remedy for all kinds of illnesses and conditions. The Romans learned about echinacea’s healing properties when they became aware of the herb’s ability to treat eye infections. Since echinacea can relieve nausea and vomiting, it is often prescribed to treat children suffering from a common cold.
When you view abstract data about echinacea, it can sometimes be hard to understand how powerful this compound is. At first glance you might think it is a good old-fashioned stomach bug that only needs to be rubbed on the outside of your body to cure common colds. However, if you read through a scientific study involving more than a dozen scientists, you will see that this herb has a much stronger effect than previously thought. In fact, scientific evidence shows that echinacea has the potential to reduce the amount of cytochrome p450, which is a substance found in the body that is involved in inflammation.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
According to the study, echinacea reduced the amount of cytochrome p450 by about forty percent, making it one of the strongest anti-inflammatories available. The reduction in inflammation means that individuals who suffer from common colds might not have to deal with the pain of a sore throat, but they should not have to deal with the nausea and vomiting either. As studies continue to progress, echinacea could soon find its way into the treatment of various other health conditions as well, including arthritis and skin diseases.
There are some medical practitioners who recommend echinacea for individuals with allergies, but there is no clinical evidence to support that claim. Some animal studies also suggest that echinacea has some positive effect on immune function in animals, but the tests have been criticized for being too small and inconclusive. Animal studies cannot always be compared to human studies, but some evidence does exist that supports echinacea’s ability to boost the immune system. One large clinical trial found that echinacea increased the number of cells that were able to fight against leukemia. Other animal studies have indicated that the herb can help to regulate blood pressure and increase blood flow.
Most of us have heard about the possible benefits of echinacea in treating a variety of conditions such as bad coughs, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, asthma, depression, fever, and headaches. However, the only area that most people have not considered is the possible use of this herb for human cancer. The most recent research indicates that echinacea may have some benefit in reducing the risk of prostate and breast cancer. There are currently clinical trials underway with patients who have early-stage prostate cancer and patients with breast cancer. Most of these studies are being sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
The popularity of echinacea was revived in the 1970’s when it was discovered that turmeric, which is part of the ginger family, had anti-cancer activity. The turmeric, found in many spices and sauces, was initially used as an alternative medication for diabetes and heart disease. After it was found that a combination of vitamin C and black cohosh had very similar anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activity, the two spices were often used interchangeably. Modern researchers now believe that echinacea and turmeric are effective in reducing the growth of some cancer cells. However, researchers are still studying whether echinacea and turmeric are effective against all types of cancer.
There are many different manufacturers of echinacea products, including GlaxoSmithKline, Kalo, Nature’s Sunshine, and Green Tea. Echinacea is available in different forms such as tablets, capsules, and teas. The reason for the wide variety of formats is so that people can choose the one that suits their individual needs the best. Echinacea peritoneum is sold under the trade names Abelia peritoneum, Astragalus vulgaris, Cicuta maxima, Cyperus rotundus, Dioscorea aromatica, and Hedera helix.

Weekend Reflection
Christmas is almost hear and the kids are getting excited about Santa. The terror wants a baby with a nuk. The baby just wants Mommy. And the big girl wants some new games for her Nintendo. Dad wants a new job and Mommy just wants some more sleep.
If everyone has been good Santa will provide.
This Christmas has been full of surprises for my family. We have all had our share of colds and lack of sleep. At age 10 my oldest still believes in the magic of Christmas. But the biggest surprise by far was when my husband decided to quit his job of two years. Merry Christmas to me…
It made me so upset and worried. I don’t know what the future is going to hold for us. I am scared to death for 2008. What will the new year bring? Will he find another job? Will we end up on the street? Will I have to leave my husband after 5 years of marriage? I am hoping that none of the above will happen.
He is a lot happpier and has interviews for new jobs lined up but that doesn’t mean that I am happy. Where does that leave his family?
Enough of my ramblings. Have a very Merry Christmas and I wish you the best for 2008.

Cellulose: The Secret Life Form Known As Plant Fiber
by Tammy Jones
Cellulose is a natural compound consisting of dimethylarginine, dimethicone, and cellulose. This natural mixture is comprised of four amino acids, which are cysteine, glycine, arginine, taurine, and methionine. The human body naturally produces this compound from carbohydrates, protein, and fats.
Cellulose is formed from undigested protein, carbohydrates, fats, and algal algae through an organism called cellulose reducer. Cellulose reducers are found in many plants and animals. For example, grasses, seeds, grains, and nuts contain this plant material. Some plants, such as corn, wheat, and rice, are genetically modified to produce higher levels of cellulose. In animals, cellulose can be found in skin, hair, bones, and teeth.
The structure of cellulose consists of two long chains connecting each other with a single bond. The long chains are made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Each hydrogen atom has one electron floating around in the hydrogen orbital. The hydrogen combines with an oxygen atom to make a new compound. This new compound is a molecule known as cellulose. This molecule contains three to nine molecules depending on the number of atoms in the new structure.
This cellulose molecule is unique because it has only a single hydrogen bonding with an oxygen atom. This hydrogen bonding is essential to the formation of the cellulose molecule. Since cellulose only has a single hydrogen atom it cannot exist in a complex environment. Therefore, the molecule is very simple and consists mainly of water. It is the complex structure of the cellulose molecule that allows it to be able to attach to many different gels, fats, proteins, and algae.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
During protein synthesis, the structure of the cell membrane allows the numerous strands to bind together with other strands of the same color. The numerous strands are actually glucose molecules that have been broken down into simple sugars. This carbohydrate polymerization is important in the formation of the blood, stomach, liver, pancreas, and many other important locations throughout the body.
This is where the uniqueness of cellulose comes from. The numerous strands are actually composed of two types of molecules. One of the two is cellulose and the other is a polysaccharide. The polysaccharide is made up of one or more sugar molecules bonded together with a short chain of glucose residues. As the glucose molecules travel around the body they bump into the cellulose molecules and break them down.
The numerous chains will bond with either an L-glutamine or an I-glutamine and then the L-glutamine will bind with one of the polysaccharides and create a longer linear chain. This longer linear chain is then released, travels around the body, and begins to breakdown any fat cells that are present in the body. As the body’s blood stream or lymph flow absorbs the cellulose, the longer linear chains are deposited in the fat cells. This triggers a series of chemical reactions that cause the formation of a cellulose molecule.
So, what does all this have to do with plants? The reason why cellulose may be found in plants instead of other substances is due to the fact that plants contain a much higher concentration of water and oil than other foods. Water and oil act as a cushion against the force that the cellulose will exert on its way down the cell wall and into the bloodstream. Therefore, plants are a better choice for consumption than other foods because they are much more likely to be broken down and absorbed into the bloodstream where it can combat any forces that may try to get through the small cellular wall. Plus, plants contain fibrous protein, a type of non-protein amino acid that helps the body create its own collagen and elastin.

Weekend Reflection
It’s Saturday morning again. Last night was terrible. My son who is nearly 6 months old refuses to sleep at night. When I put him in his crib he just screams. In fact that is what he is doing right now. He woke up every 20 minutes last night. All he wanted to do is nurse. Nursing burns a lot of calories and I am not a big woman. In fact I have a rather fast metabolisim so whenever I nurse him I get extremly hungry. So here I am at 5:30 in the morning on a Saturday (I should be sleeping in because it is Saturday) eating a bowl of fruit loops and typing on my blog. If I try to go back to sleep I won’t be able to becuase I can’t stand listening to him scream and I can’t sleep when my stomache is grumbling. My husband says that he wakes up at night because he knows that I will comfort him. He’s right. I think I am going to go and get the right now.
Are you having trouble getting your baby to sleep through the night? click here for a great resource to help you and your baby get a better night’s sleep.
The terror just started wearing training pants. I think she is starting to get this potty thing. I like cloth trainong pants because they help your child to feel when he or she is wet. Disposable diapers are so well designed now that they absorb all the moisture so it doesn’t touch your baby‘s skin. She hasn’t had an accident in her training pants yet. Last night all she wanted to do was watch “Go Diego, Go” and “Dora the Explorer” while running around naked. Even though it is 20 degrees F outside, I thought what the heck, she is still little. She decided to bring her potty chair into the bedroom where she was watching her shows. When we were not looking she must have sat on it and went pee pee. Because when I went to bed last night I found the potty in two pieces with pee pee all over it. She was probably playing with the potty afterwards. She didn’t get the “Yeah pee pee on the potty!” cheer from Mommy and Daddy. Maybe next time.

My oldest is starting to like school more and more because she says that she finally has friends. I have forgotton how important friendships are to 10 year olds. She used to keep to herself because she didn’t have a lot in common with the kids in her class. I think that is the problem with kids and friendships. I remember when I was a kid if you didn’t roll your jeans a certain way or you didn’t like Michael Jordan then you were not cool. Today you are not cool if you don’t like Hannah Montana, High School Musical and Webkinz. My daughter just so happens to like those three things so now she has lots of friends. She has to have something to talk about with the other girls at the lunch table.

Bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).
When you become depressed, you may feel sad or hopeless and lose interest or pleasure in most activities. When your mood shifts to mania or hypomania (less extreme than mania), you may feel euphoric, full of energy or unusually irritable. These mood swings can affect sleep, energy, activity, judgment, behavior and the ability to think clearly.
Episodes of mood swings may occur rarely or multiple times a year. While most people will experience some emotional symptoms between episodes, some may not experience any.
Although bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition, you can manage your mood swings and other symptoms by following a treatment plan. In most cases, bipolar disorder is treated with medications and psychological counseling (psychotherapy).

SymptomsThere are several types of bipolar and related disorders. They may include mania or hypomania and depression. Symptoms can cause unpredictable changes in mood and behavior, resulting in significant distress and difficulty in life.
Bipolar I disorder. You’ve had at least one manic episode that may be preceded or followed by hypomanic or major depressive episodes. In some cases, mania may trigger a break from reality (psychosis).Bipolar II disorder. You’ve had at least one major depressive episode and at least one hypomanic episode, but you’ve never had a manic episode.Cyclothymic disorder. You’ve had at least two years — or one year in children and teenagers — of many periods of hypomania symptoms and periods of depressive symptoms (though less severe than major depression).Other types. These include, for example, bipolar and related disorders induced by certain drugs or alcohol or due to a medical condition, such as Cushing’s disease, multiple sclerosis or stroke.Bipolar II disorder is not a milder form of bipolar I disorder, but a separate diagnosis. While the manic episodes of bipolar I disorder can be severe and dangerous, individuals with bipolar II disorder can be depressed for longer periods, which can cause significant impairment.
Although bipolar disorder can occur at any age, typically it’s diagnosed in the teenage years or early 20s. Symptoms can vary from person to person, and symptoms may vary over time.
Mania and hypomaniaMania and hypomania are two distinct types of episodes, but they have the same symptoms. Mania is more severe than hypomania and causes more noticeable problems at work, school and social activities, as well as relationship difficulties. Mania may also trigger a break from reality (psychosis) and require hospitalization.
Both a manic and a hypomanic episode include three or more of these symptoms:
Abnormally upbeat, jumpy or wiredIncreased activity, energy or agitationExaggerated sense of well-being and self-confidence (euphoria)Decreased need for sleepUnusual talkativenessRacing thoughtsDistractibilityPoor decision-making — for example, going on buying sprees, taking sexual risks or making foolish investmentsMajor depressive episodeA major depressive episode includes symptoms that are severe enough to cause noticeable difficulty in day-to-day activities, such as work, school, social activities or relationships. An episode includes five or more of these symptoms:
Depressed mood, such as feeling sad, empty, hopeless or tearful (in children and teens, depressed mood can appear as irritability)Marked loss of interest or feeling no pleasure in all — or almost all — activitiesSignificant weight loss when not dieting, weight gain, or decrease or increase in appetite (in children, failure to gain weight as expected can be a sign of depression)Either insomnia or sleeping too muchEither restlessness or slowed behaviorFatigue or loss of energyFeelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guiltDecreased ability to think or concentrate, or indecisivenessThinking about, planning or attempting suicideOther features of bipolar disorderSigns and symptoms of bipolar I and bipolar II disorders may include other features, such as anxious distress, melancholy, psychosis or others. The timing of symptoms may include diagnostic labels such as mixed or rapid cycling. In addition, bipolar symptoms may occur during pregnancy or change with the seasons.
Symptoms in children and teensSymptoms of bipolar disorder can be difficult to identify in children and teens. It’s often hard to tell whether these are normal ups and downs, the results of stress or trauma, or signs of a mental health problem other than bipolar disorder.
Children and teens may have distinct major depressive or manic or hypomanic episodes, but the pattern can vary from that of adults with bipolar disorder. And moods can rapidly shift during episodes. Some children may have periods without mood symptoms between episodes.
The most prominent signs of bipolar disorder in children and teenagers may include severe mood swings that are different from their usual mood swings.
When to see a doctorDespite the mood extremes, people with bipolar disorder often don’t recognize how much their emotional instability disrupts their lives and the lives of their loved ones and don’t get the treatment they need.
And if you’re like some people with bipolar disorder, you may enjoy the feelings of euphoria and cycles of being more productive. However, this euphoria is always followed by an emotional crash that can leave you depressed, worn out — and perhaps in financial, legal or relationship trouble.
If you have any symptoms of depression or mania, see your doctor or mental health professional. Bipolar disorder doesn’t get better on its own. Getting treatment from a mental health professional with experience in bipolar disorder can help you get your symptoms under control.
When to get emergency helpSuicidal thoughts and behavior are common among people with bipolar disorder. If you have thoughts of hurting yourself, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately, go to an emergency room, or confide in a trusted relative or friend. Or call a suicide hotline number — in the United States, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255).
If you have a loved one who is in danger of suicide or has made a suicide attempt, make sure someone stays with that person. Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Or, if you think you can do so safely, take the person to the nearest hospital emergency room.
CausesThe exact cause of bipolar disorder is unknown, but several factors may be involved, such as:
Biological differences. People with bipolar disorder appear to have physical changes in their brains. The significance of these changes is still uncertain but may eventually help pinpoint causes.Genetics. Bipolar disorder is more common in people who have a first-degree relative, such as a sibling or parent, with the condition. Researchers are trying to find genes that may be involved in causing bipolar disorder.Risk factorsFactors that may increase the risk of developing bipolar disorder or act as a trigger for the first episode include:
Having a first-degree relative, such as a parent or sibling, with bipolar disorderPeriods of high stress, such as the death of a loved one or other traumatic eventDrug or alcohol abuseComplicationsLeft untreated, bipolar disorder can result in serious problems that affect every area of your life, such as:
Problems related to drug and alcohol useSuicide or suicide attemptsLegal or financial problemsDamaged relationshipsPoor work or school performanceCo-occurring conditionsIf you have bipolar disorder, you may also have another health condition that needs to be treated along with bipolar disorder. Some conditions can worsen bipolar disorder symptoms or make treatment less successful. Examples include:
Anxiety disordersEating disordersAttention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)Alcohol or drug problemsPhysical health problems, such as heart disease, thyroid problems, headaches or obesityPreventionThere’s no sure way to prevent bipolar disorder. However, getting treatment at the earliest sign of a mental health disorder can help prevent bipolar disorder or other mental health conditions from worsening.
If you’ve been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, some strategies can help prevent minor symptoms from becoming full-blown episodes of mania or depression:
Pay attention to warning signs. Addressing symptoms early on can prevent episodes from getting worse. You may have identified a pattern to your bipolar episodes and what triggers them. Call your doctor if you feel you’re falling into an episode of depression or mania. Involve family members or friends in watching for warning signs.Avoid drugs and alcohol. Using alcohol or recreational drugs can worsen your symptoms and make them more likely to come back.Take your medications exactly as directed. You may be tempted to stop treatment — but don’t. Stopping your medication or reducing your dose on your own may cause withdrawal effects or your symptoms may worsen or return.Feb. 16, 2021

The Health Benefits of Cucumbers
Cucumbers are one of those simple fruits that provides many health benefits if eaten in its natural form. They are not only delicious, and nutritious, but also help to regulate blood pressure, lower cholesterol, regulate the digestive process, and reduce inflammation. Here are some interesting facts on cucumbers.
Cucumber (Cuvaula Cubeba) is a widespread cultivated creeping vine species in the Cucurbitaceae family that bears cucumber-like fruits, which are employed as fruits for food. There are basically three main types of cucumber across the world with differing varieties of taste, color, and nutritional content. The Central Asian cucumber is among the oldest and the most commonly grown; the Mediterranean cucumber is more popular in Southern Asia and Africa, and the African cucumber is more popular in Southern Asia and Africa. All cucumbers contain more than 90% water.
Among all fruits and vegetables cucumbers are among the most frequently consumed. They can be eaten raw, cooked, halved, sliced, or grated. In addition to containing water, cucumbers are a good source of essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and folic acid. Specifically, cucumbers are a source of potassium, with an average potassium level of about 7 mg/day. This is higher than most edible sources.
<span data-mce-type="bookmark" style="display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;" class="mce_SELRES_start"></span> (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Recent studies have shown that eating cucumber slices as an alternative to chips and other snacks can be very helpful. Cucumbers, unlike most vegetables, contain a large amount of potassium. Also, when eating cucumbers it’s recommended to grate them, or slice them, instead of eating them whole. Research has proven that eating cucumber slices as a replacement to potato chips and other snack foods can lower the risk of stroke in women. This is because cucurbitacins (a chemical found in cucumbers) inhibit blood platelet adhesion, a condition that increases the risk of stroke.
Some research has also indicated that consuming foods high in lignans, also known as “coconut oils”, may prevent coronary artery disease (CAD). Coconut oil has been found to be particularly effective in preventing CAD by reducing high LDL cholesterol levels and increasing HDL cholesterol. In addition to reducing LDL cholesterol, coconut oil has been found to be beneficial in decreasing blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and cholesterol. In short, this dark green vegetable is extremely healthy and may even help you live longer.
Cucumbers contain a number of healthful ingredients including vitamins A, C, B-complex, vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and niacin. Interestingly, researchers have found that adding cucumber to the diet can actually increase the antioxidant activity in our bodies. Antioxidants are substances that fight off harmful molecules (such as cancer cells or pesticides) from damaging our cells. Eating foods that are high in antioxidants such as cucumbers helps keep our cells healthy and functioning properly. Furthermore, studies have also shown that there are a number of cucumber based compounds that possess antioxidant activity.
Cucumbers themselves are not only delicious, but they’re loaded with nutrients. Cucumbers are rich in sodium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, manganese, potassium, and fiber. Moreover, cucumbers are one of the highest sources of vitamin C in the food world. In fact, besides being the worlds largest vegetable, cucumbers are also one of the most important foods to eat if you want to get your daily amount of vitamin C. The good news is that eating cucumbers on a regular basis is one of the most healthy things you can do for your body. However, there is no reason you have to eat them only at dinner. In fact, cucumbers make great snacks during the day too.
Another benefit that the pickled cucumber has to offer is its anti-inflammatory properties. A study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry showed that eating cucumber slices increased the activity of prostaglandins, which are primarily produced by inflammatory mediators such as cytokines. Prostaglandins are known to stimulate tumor growth and inflammation. So eating cucumbers may help prevent certain forms of cancer from forming. Thus, not only can cucumbers be used in cooking but also in treating various health problems.

Facts About Covid19
by LouAnn Moss
Covid19 is a mild to severe respiratory illness that is caused by a coronavirus (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 of the genus Betacoronavirus), is transmitted chiefly by contact with infectious material (such as respiratory droplets) or with objects or surfaces contaminated by the causative virus, and is characterized especially by fever, cough, and shortness of breath and may progress to pneumonia and respiratory failure

Covid is caused by a different than the one causing colds and the flu: the virus SARS-CoV-1. Those with serious underlying health conditions such as lung or heart disease or those who have had chemotherapy usually appear to be at greater risk for contracting Covid. The virus is also believed to have come into contact with semen from an infected person who has died, suggesting a way for it to make its way back into the body after someone else dies from Covid-related illnesses. This condition is often referred to as the “sleeping disease.”
What is the treatment for covid19? Your child might receive a series of intravenous medications to fight off the virus. He or she might need to spend the night in the hospital to recover. It is important that anyone who has had a child acquire adequate vaccination shots within the first 72 hours of the infection help fight off any complications that might arise.
Why is this condition affecting young children? It is believed that the virus spreads when infected saliva is exchanged with an infected person. If a child contracts the virus before he or she can have children, the resulting consequences could be devastating.

How is the condition affecting parents? A question that parents everywhere are asking is how their child is faring since he or she contracted the illness. One concern is whether the disease has been able to spread to other members of the family, especially if other family members also have the condition. If the illness has spread to another child in the family, this could mean disaster for the other children.
To avoid having this condition affect your child, there are steps you can take to limit the number of possible sources of contact with the virus. Encourage your child to shower regularly and bathe at home. Secure flushing toilets and washing facilities in your home and use hand washing to reduce the risk of transmitting the condition. For those traveling abroad, ensure that they do not share toys or bottles with an ill child.
The symptoms will typically manifest quickly and last between two to eleven days. This will depend on the severity of the condition. Children with the Covid19 virus may exhibit no symptoms or only a few, but the virus will still be present in their system. A child should be checked immediately by his or her pediatrician to determine the best course of treatment.
During the initial period of virus exposure, the virus will be in low quantity in your child’s blood. Your child’s body will be ready to fight off the disease because he or she will be producing antibodies. However, these antibodies will not provide protection against all the diseases that are common in childhood.
Knowing all these information can help you and your doctor manage the situation. It can also help the parents of a child with the condition to deal with the situation more effectively. Communicating properly with each other and with the child can help you both deal with the disease.
