by Guest Author
Make Your Own Winter AccessoriesIf you’re a person who enjoys undertaking crafty projects, you should make your own winter accessories. There are so many items that you can make in order to protect yourself from the cold and bitter weather. So, break out your knitting needles and start making accessories to keep yourself warm when the snow starts to fall.

If you live in an area that has harsh winters full of snowstorms and freezing temperatures, you will need to have some intense winter-wear to help you stay safe and comfortable. You will need an insulating coat and waterproof boots to deal with precipitation like snow and freezing rain. You will also need an array of winter accessories to protect your extremities like your hands, feet and ears from the cold.
In order to start making your winter accessories, you should visit the website Yarnspirations to find the patterns and designs that you will want to try. The knitting patterns are organized by skill level so that beginners can find a project that they are comfortable with completing—no one wants to find out that a pattern is too overwhelming after buying the yarn and starting the craft. The website also organizes yarn options by fiber, brand and colour, so that you can find the perfect yarn for your project and for other crafting projects in the future.

Avoid a cotton fiber for your winter projects, because cotton does not wick away moisture and will leave you feeling way too cold. Wool fiber is believed to the best fabric for winter survival clothing because it is durable, excellent at retaining heat and resistant to moisture. Even when wool gets soaking wet, the fabric is still warmer than any other material under the same circumstances.
You should also choose a bulkier weight of yarn to make thick scarves, hats and mittens that are sure to keep you heated in the freezing weather. You can also work faster with a bulkier yarn, so you can make lots of winter accessories in a short amount of time. Bulky yarn will also be a perfect choice for knitters with a beginner skill level because it is easier to work with and doesn’t require as much patience as finer weights.
Whether you’re an experienced knitter or just a beginner, you should try making your own winter accessories for this season. Choose some bulky wool yarn from the website Yarnspirations, then pick a pattern for an item that will warm your ears, neck, hands or feet. Soon enough, you will have some fantastic new winter-wear that will keep you warm in the snowy weather.

4 Clever Ways to Decrease Home’s Humidity
by Guest Author
You recognize the signs of humidity when you feel them: frizzy hair, sticky skin, and thick air. However, you might not associate humidity with problems like allergies and asthma, peeling wallpaper and paint, mold and damage to your belongings, furnishings, and home’s structure. Luckily, you don’t need a fancy piece of equipment to determine the humidity level causing this damage; all you need is a thermometer with an integrated hygrometer.
Ideally you want your humidity level to be somewhere between 30 and 50 percent relative humidity. If your thermometer is showing that it’s higher than that, get a free in-home interior waterproofing Toronto inspection and follow these four smart ways can help you get that number down.
Get a Dehumidifier
[image error] Image via Flickr by Commercial Cleaning MarylandThis one is pretty straightforward. There are three types of dehumidifiers, each suited to different conditions. Desiccants use moisture-absorbent materials (like those little silica packets you find in electronics packaging) to wick water out of the air. This type of dehumidifier is best for low-temperature spaces, like a damp basement. In warmer temperatures, choose a mechanical dehumidifier that uses a coil or cooling plate, which collects excess moisture in a tank. Electric dehumidifiers are best for small spaces, like RVs or bedrooms, where noise is an issue.
Go With the Flow
Another easy way to lower the relative humidity in your home is to increase air flow. Open windows and turn on exhaust fans to create a cross-breeze. Get in the habit of turning exhaust fans on when you do things that generate moisture, such as cooking and showering. Make sure kitchen and bathroom fans vent to the outside. Otherwise, you’re just moving moist air to another part of the house. If you don’t have good ventilation, consider installing an attic fan.
Put Nature Where It Belongs
If you have house plants, they are likely contributing to your humidity woes. Plants release water vapor into the air, especially if they’re the kinds of plants that need a lot of water themselves. Consider moving plants outdoors during seasons when indoor humidity is an issue. If plants are a key component of your decor, opt for artificial or low-water plants. Find a place to stack firewood outside as well, rather than keeping it indoors.
Tackle the Honey-Do List
There are several home-improvement projects that double as solutions to your humidity problems. If you’ve been meaning to clean and/or replace your gutters, rip out the carpet in favor of hardwood or tile, service your hvac installation system, have your doors and windows checked for leaks, or have heating system maintenance. Do it sooner rather than later. If you need to replace your windows I recommend getting double glazing windows perth. These basic maintenance tasks will help keep your home dry and comfortable year-round.
Taking steps to control the humidity in your home is a good idea for so many reasons. You and your family will be healthier and more comfortable. You’ll save yourself the hassle and expense of dealing with an unsightly and potentially dangerous mold problem. You’ll even save money on your heating bill. So next time things feel a little sticky, use these tips to tackle the problem once and for all.

Luke Chapter 2, The Birth of Jesus“In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town. And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
“Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
‘Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’
The Visit of the Shepherds
“When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.’ So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told to them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told by the shepherds. And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen.”

Belated Gift Ideas for Friends and Family
by Guest Author
Christmas is a time of togetherness, fantastic eggnog, evenings by the fire and… gift-giving. But maybe you have a list of quality people that you had every intention of getting something, but they got lost in the shuffle. Or perhaps you delayed because of the dread of not knowing what to get because you feel you never get it quite right. Any of these scenarios sound like yours? If so, chances are you could use some help with picking out presents for your those special people in your life.
Gifts over $100
Occasionally, we have that one friend who goes above and beyond in buying us Christmas gifts. On such occasions, gifting a present that is equal in value to the one you received is the well-mannered thing to do. If you are going to shell out $100 for a gift, make sure that what you buy is a quality purchase and one that will be used. For example, parents of a newborn may love receiving a stroller. And for parents of twins or of children close in age, these double stroller reviews provide a great starting point in your search.
Essentially, what you want to give is a practical item that will be used over and over. A fancy coffee machine for parents who need coffee to make it through the day (that’s all of us, right?), or an eBook reader for the parents who love to read, are great gifts that will be used repeatedly. Sure, it may cost a bit more, but it will most likely be used beyond next year’s Christmas.
Gifts for $50
Gourmet food baskets are a particularly nice way of treating hard-working parents. This kind of gift is especially appreciated by couples with young children who no longer have time to hit up the specialty stores.
Other great purchases that provide a dose of relaxation to parents who could use some de-stressing time? Why not some coupons to a massage parlor? This idea can be taken even further by getting them wholesale tea. When kids are young, parents have their hands full with caring for the physical needs of their kids. And often don’t have time to research weekend activities, even if they are able to find babysitting help. Think of what other activities that can help the parents get out of the house. For example, a wine tasting tour of a local winery may be just what they need for a change of scenery and relaxation. Or you can even have send a wine delivery to their home and they can have their own private cozy wine tasting.

Gifts for $10
Some people shy away from buying gifts for $10 or less even if it could get you something practical like these gift baskets. But in this budget bracket, you are looking for gifts that can run the range of ornamental, sentimental, or simply decorative. Gifts at this price point are about the thought put into choosing something you know will speak to your friend. The value of the gift is in the effort you put into finding that one item that tells a story of your friendship. It’s for these reasons that gifts within this range can be even more challenging to pull off.
Ideas that may help trigger the winning selection? How about a coffee mug with a great slogan? A couch pillow with a snazzy one-liner? Ear plugs that work? A stash of emergency chocolate bars? You get the idea. These kinds of gifts may be just perfect for Mom and Dad, none of which are too pricey.
Gifts that are free
Perhaps you can’t afford to buy gifts for friends or family this year, and in addition, you are worried about how to reciprocate the gifts that might be coming your way. The good news is that there are ways to still give gifts to your parent friends, even when you have no money to spend. Parent friends are, in fact, very easy to please. Create a coupon that allows them to claim an evening of babysitting duties from you, in your own home or theirs. Another option is to invite them over for a Sunday dinner. Having someone else cook is a treat your friends with kids will thoroughly enjoy.
A final note on gift giving during the holidays
It can be disappointing to work hard at choosing a gift, only to find a gift not given in return. But this could happen for any number of reasons. Your parent friends might be undergoing financial difficulties. Or they simply were too frantic with other parenting duties to get around to gift-giving this year. Try to keep gift-giving during the holidays in perspective. Focus instead on celebrating Christmas by creating a kind moment or purchasing a thoughtful item for your friend.

Caring For an Aging Parent
by Guest Author
[image error]
Watching our parents grow older and face some of the consequences associated with advancing age is probably one of the most difficult and emotional situations to have to deal with. On the one hand, if we are lucky enough to have one or both of our parents around for a long time, we are grateful. On the other hand, watching them go through difficult times, especially when they need help, can be emotionally draining. Many of us want to keep our parents either in their own home or in our home. As long as they can receive proper care, this can be a wonderful thing.
Home Health CareHowever, there will be times when you might need to consider home health care for your aging parent. If your parent needs regular skilled nursing care, this is the best option.
In-Home CareIn-home care services are non-medical and help seniors with activities of daily living. Some of the services they provide include:
Household choresMeal preparationMedication remindersPersonal hygiene. Make sure you’re clean with this 72 pack 8 fl oz antibacterial hand sanitizer.Assisted Living Facilities or Nursing HomesWhen it is no longer possible to care for your loved one at home, you will need to look into assisted living or nursing home options. You will, of course, want to visit different facilities, interview the staff and residents and find the most caring, experienced and professional memory care program for your loved one that offers the best assisted living care software.
Keep Your Job or Quit?Be careful to consider all the pros and cons about whether or not you should keep working or quit your job to care for your aging parent(s). Obviously, you have to consider your own financial obligations as a large part of this decision. If you have a strong support group, like grown children or nearby siblings, it will be easier to continue working, as others in your family can handle your parents’ needs while you are at work.
Medical EmergenciesThere might be times when one of your parents will require surgery. Hopefully, it is a procedure that can correct a health issue with a relatively short recovery period. If your parent needs to have surgery, you will need to be prepared and informed about things like length of recovery, activity restrictions and signs or symptoms caused by unexpected consequences of the surgery. Make sure you always have medical supplies, like cpap supplies, available to you.
Get Extra HelpIt is very difficult being the only caregiver for an aging parent. It can be very stressful and difficult to juggle with other aspects of your life. A good way to reduce your workload is to get help, if available.
Family Members
If you have grown children or other family members living nearby, ask them to chip in. Coordinate schedules to make sure there is always someone available to provide care for your parent. You will have other things to handle when dealing with your parent, such as running errands, insurance claims and paying bills. If a family member is not available to be physically present, talk to them about helping out in these different areas.
Adult Day Care
Most communities offer programs that will allow your aging parent to socialize in a setting where they can also receive care. These facilities give caregivers much-needed breaks to reduce stress and prevent burnout.
Some of the activities your aging parent can participate in and enjoy:
Music and sing-alongsArts and crafts projectsGames Exercise programsBook clubs Discussion groupsCompanions
There are many people who volunteer their time and want to assist seniors. They can be helpful just to give the caregiver a break. These volunteers also help keep seniors company. Check to see what kinds of Senior Companion programs are available in your community. Some volunteer their time simply to give friendship and assistance. If you find a volunteer through a local program, make sure they do background checks and training with those who participate.
Making DecisionsWhen you become the caregiver for your parent, you have entered a role-reversal phase of your life. It is very difficult for an aging parent to realize that they need help–especially from a child. This role reversal can have emotional effects on both the parent and the child. You should try to be cognizant of what your parent is going through and try to keep communication channels open so that you and your parent can talk honestly about your feelings. If you are lucky enough to have always had a good relationship with your parent, this new phase will be challenging but surmountable. If you do not have a history of a good relationship, maybe this would be a good time to come to a mutual understanding and develop a better relationship.

Prepare For Your Future Pregnancy The Right Way
by Guest Author
[image error]
Most people look forward to having a child at some point in their future. Unfortunately, getting pregnant and having a child can be incredibly challenging. If you’re not well prepared for the adventure that is pregnancy, there is a chance that something may go wrong along the way. Your body might not be able to handle it, and you may experience a miscarriage. However, the flip side is also true. Preparing your body for a healthy pregnancy can boost your chances of a successful 10 months.
Get A Checkup
Before doing anything else, you should visit your primary physician. Schedule a checkup to make sure that you’re healthy, and that your body can actually physically accommodate the changes that come along with pregnancy. Your doctor will perform a comprehensive analysis of your body to determine whether or not it is safe for you to have a child. Your doctor will also offer advice for getting healthy and preparing for the upcoming pregnancy.
Lose Weight
Being overweight can create many problems for yourself and your baby, including gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. Before you get pregnant, it is pertinent to reach a healthy weight level. Stock your refrigerator with healthy foods, and do your best not to feed your baby a bunch of junk foods, as it could create weight and health issues down the line.
Quit Smoking And Drinking
Another thing to remember is that smoking can negatively impact your baby. If you’re going to continue smoking anyway, it may be best to not get pregnant at all! It is simply too risky. Smoking will ruin your health, as well as your child’s. With that being said, you should give up the cigarettes as early as possible. Alcohol should be avoided, as well. Be cautious, and do your best to avoid anything that could potentially put your child in harm’s way.
Start Early
There is no doubt that your age can play a huge role in determining how difficult it will be for you to get pregnant. If you’re interested in having a child, it may be important to start as early as possible. After the age of 30, your chances of conceiving will decrease. After you reach your 40s, your chances will drop even lower. The good news is that there are some alternatives out there. Nevertheless, it is always best to get started early to greatly increase your chances of conceiving without any problems.
Try Alternatives
However, if you’re having difficulty getting pregnant on your own, you should consider trying alternatives. Adopting is one suitable option, but many women will want to have their own child the natural way. Finding an egg donor is highly recommended. With egg donation, you receive a healthy egg from another individual, which is implanted into your body. This can be a very effective way to get pregnant if natural attempts are not successful. Remember to carefully research each and every one of your options before deciding which route to take.

What is Morning Sickness During Pregnancy?
It is no secret that nausea and vomiting in pregnancy are very common- and it can be morning, noon and night sickness that lasts the whole pregnancy. Most pregnant women experience nausea, and half experience vomiting. Maybe you take this as a good sign as some studies associate morning sickness with a healthy pregnancy.
Typically, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy are not dangerous for your baby. Even with the most extreme form of nausea and vomiting, as long as it’s treated early, babies don’t have any kind of problems. Read out our blog to keep mom healthy and happy while her pregnancy.
What causes morning sickness? It’s not known exactly, but the hormones HCG and estrogen are said to trigger it.
How long does it last?
Nausea and vomiting can begin as early as 4 weeks of pregnancy. This condition usually peaks around 8 weeks. For most women, it subsides after the 1st trimester i.e. 14 weeks. Although, for the 10% of moms this condition can last the whole pregnancy. Let your nurse or doctor know when you’re experiencing it.
How do you cope with morning sickness?Avoid smells or taste that trigger your reaction. Try eating small, frequent meals and bland, high-protein snacks and dry foods. Ginger in all forms helps in nausea. Your healthcare provider may also prescribe you medicines with no increase in birth defects or pregnancy problems.
If nothing relieves your symptoms and you’re not able to even eat or drink, you may have hyperemesis gravidarum. Signs mainly include several times a day nausea and vomiting, dehydration and dangerous weight loss.
Just like the morning sickness conditions, hyperemesis gravidarum also goes away after the 1st trimester but may continue to very few pregnant women. If you think that if you may have this extreme form, let your doctor know away.
