The Meadowlark by B.C. Walker is a dual-time novel that takes place in modern time and in the past from 1885 until 1936. It is the story of two women, Emma Rose, a rising star in the business consulting world and Cassie Rapp Walker who we first meet as a young girl. Cassie and her family are pioneer settlers in the territory of Idaho, they make their home near the banks of Willow Creek. Emma and her mother are mystified when her father requests to be buried in a rural Idaho town, Willow Creek. Here, the past and present collide in a touching story of love, family, tragedy and resilience.
I really enjoyed reading the Cassie timeline, filled with history and the pioneering spirit. The author does a great job of fleshing out her very interesting and at times difficult life. The Emma story, for me, dragged a bit in the first half of the book with a lot of background details that didn’t really add much to the story. This modern timeline picked up speed in the second half of the book and I found it much more engaging, with a sweet romance and a mystery to solve.
Well written and edited, the book is a treat to read. I highly recommend this book to lovers of historical fiction and those how enjoy dual timeline stories.
I rate this book 4 ½ ⭐⭐⭐⭐★stars

The harshness of Kylie’s life is balanced by the loving kindness found in her grandparents and her uncle. This book is an emotional read, and the author doesn’t take the easy way out by painting Kylie’s new life as a bed of roses. Instead, she allows her to battle her personal demons, make mistakes, learn to trust and love and eventually heal.
I highly recommend this book to readers who appreciate realistic and heartfelt stories. Be aware that it includes subjects some readers may find uncomfortable and/or painful.

What a wild ride this book is! Jeff Sharp, WWII vet, ex cop, cattle rustler investigator loses his wife and job in short order. An offer for private investigative work seems like a good direction. His first assignments are to run down information on a Dallas mob boss and catch a cheating husband in an affair. Both lead to trouble.
On the bright side, Jeff reunites with a childhood friend, Roni Arquette, a war widow. When Roni’s new boyfriend, Army Air Force Officer Jerry Cartwright disappears, under mysterious circumstances, Jeff and Roni are determined to find him. Their search leads them to Roswell, New Mexico and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Set in the 1940s, the story is full of period details from cars to gambling dens in Fort Worth, Texas and the crash of an alien spaceship. The narrative has a noir detective feel with a heavy dose of Sci-Fi. There is a fair amount of violence. Poor Jeff is on the wrong end of several nasty beatings.
Well written with an unusual story line, I was sucked in from the beginning. I really enjoyed the story and would recommend it to readers who like detective/mystery/thrillers in a historical fiction setting.

Anna Belfrage
Had Anna been allowed to choose, she’d have become a time-traveller. As this was impossible, she became a financial professional with two absorbing interests: history and writing. Anna has authored the acclaimed time travelling series The Graham Saga, set in 17th century Scotland and Maryland, as well as the equally acclaimed medieval series The King’s Greatest Enemy which is set in 14th century England.
Anna has also published The Wanderer, a fast-paced contemporary romantic suspense trilogy with paranormal and time-slip ingredients.
Her Castilian Heart is the third in her “Castilian” series, a stand-alone sequel to her September 2020 release, His Castilian Hawk. Alana White's passion for Renaissance Italy has taken her to Florence for research on the Vespucci and Medici families on numerous occasions. Dodge Kingston returns to his Alaskan home to care for his ailing father. It’s been ten long years since he left with a broken heart and a broken family. Echo Yazzie, the woman who turned down his proposal of marriage, has never left. She loves Alaska and the wilderness but it has wreaked havoc with her own family; her mother, unable to cope with the isolation, abandoned her and her father.
Susan May Warren has crafted an emotional romance in a majestic setting. She beautifully describes the Alaskan landscape and the creatures that inhabit it. I really enjoyed her descriptive narrative, which made this hot-weather Texas gal want to travel there myself!
