A Romance Like No Other
To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.—Oscar Wilde
Happy Valentine’s Day week! Whether you’re single, coupled, or anything in between, this is your time.
Below you’ll find 10 ways to practice being your very own valentine today and every day. No date, dress, or lipstick needed.
1. Practice gratitude. Note what is working in your life right now. Take a moment to pen a gratitude list—clean water, warm home, clothing, good friend, partner, pet, income, shelter, health, energy, etc.
2. Move your body. Go for a walk or bike ride. Take a yoga, barre, or dance class. Stretch. Roll out your mat and do a sun salutation.
3. Hydrate. Drink eight 8-oz glasses daily. Start your day with hot water and lemon to detoxify. Sip green juice. Infuse your water with mint.
4. Rejuvenate. Get eight hours of sleep. Try earplugs, an eye mask, and soft sheets in a cool room. Nap. Listen to your body.
5. Eat clean. Go light on processed foods. I know, it’s Girl Scout cookie season, but seek out fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. And then savor a Thin Mint (or five!). Join our TDJ Eat Plants Facebook group for ideas.
6. Create space. When we’re scheduled from sun up past sun down even with things we love, it takes a toll. Interject moments of unscheduled time to daydream, nap, be spontaneous, write, read, and play.
7. Be still. Use apps like Headspace, Calm, and Mindfulness to track your meditation practice. Sit for 10 minutes and do nothing. Yes, nothing. Follow your breath in and out of the nose. Watch this TED Talk for inspiration.
8. Compliment. Make a list of things you like about yourself—pretty eyes, kind heart, sense of humor, organized, and more. Write a love letter and share what you admire about someone else close to you.
9. Get creative. Sit down with craft supplies and create something for yourself or a loved one from these 40 DIY ideas. Try one of these handmade Valentine’s cards options. Decorate your home with candles, flowers, and twinkle lights.
10. Design rituals. Start a new ritual that soothes such as chamomile tea and a hot bath before bed or writing in your journal each morning. What would allow you to infuse your every day with self-love?
Today, do something sweet just for you. Get a mani. Dress up and take yourself out to tea. Write yourself a love letter. Read a book cover to cover. Stay in bed. Sip something yummy—hot cocoa with vegan marshmallows, a cuppa tea, bubbly. Treat yourself to brunch. Declare a Bed Day surrounded by pups and books. Go for a stroll with no plan. Savor dark chocolate with sea salt. Buy yourself flowers.

Would You Read This Book?
As some of you know, for the past few years I’ve been writing a memoiresque book. It started out as a business-building-and-challenges-behind-the-scenes book. Then I sold the yoga studio and it shifted into my transition to a new career and lifestyle in middle age.
Below is a *draft* synopsis of what I’m working on and I’d LOVE to hear what you think. Please share in the comments or email me directly. I want to write something useful, transparent, and meaningful, so your input is appreciated! x
PS Name of book TBD hence the [NAME OF BOOK] below.

[This first para was crafted by a writing friend, fyi]
From all outward appearances, Kimberly Wilson was the embodiment of the modern woman. At 26 she founded a yoga studio in her living room that became a million dollar business and went on to pen self-help books, host retreats around the globe, launch an eco-fashion clothing line, co-found a non-profit, and earn two master’s degrees. She had the whole mind-body-spirit thing figured out.
At least it looked like she did.
In truth, running a yoga studio was anything but tranquil. Behind the scenes she struggled with anxiety and depression, suffered multiple losses, underwent surgeries to heal physical injuries, and struggled running a business with her highly sensitive introverted personality.
Ultimately, she was brought to her knees. One night she did an internet search, surprising herself as she typed in the words: “What to do when you hate what you’ve created?” That’s the night she knew things had to change.
Follow her journey from building to unraveling an identity she’d outgrown by releasing what had defined her for nearly two decades. In [NAME OF BOOK] Wilson explores reinvention in midlife and offers invaluable lessons for anyone seeking a more authentic, tranquil way of life. This book offers encouragement to those interested in digging deep, unraveling, and starting over.

January in Review
Hello and welcome to a new edition of the Month in Review! As some of you may recall, for years I did a Week in Review and recently switched to a monthly segment (although I see I missed the second half of 2019—oops!). While most people are watching the Super Bowl, I’m curled up at home with pugs, candles, and many notebooks tying a bow around the first month of 2020.
I started the year by hosting a three-hour New Year’s Salon in my office and the New Year’s TDJ Live a few days later. On January 2 I sat with my first clients of the new decade and life quickly fell back into routine post-holiday. So much so that I am still crystallizing my Year’s Dreams (p. 24 of the Daybook) and contemplating energy management which was an issue for me in 2019 as noted in my Year in Review blog post and podcast.
January highlights and happenings include: hosting the Salon and TDJ Live, seeing the Judy Chicago and Bonnard to Vuillard exhibits, having the Pigs & Pugs board meeting, going to Asheville for our 16-year anniversary (and all that trip contained minus the seizures), taking 21 movement classes (barre, ballet, yoga), updating Paris and Provence retreaters on ALL we’ll be experiencing (ooh la la!), numerous vet visits, met with an endodontist and dermatologist, saw Diana Ross accompanied with an orchestra, penned 30 thank-yous and love notes (see pig cards above coming to all 2019 TDJ Soiree attendees), repotted my oversized ficus, Read Buddha’s Brain, Older, but Better, but Older, Why We Can’t Sleep, and Keep it Moving (follow along on Goodreads), completed two veterinary social work modules, scheduled a TranquiliT tribe meeting (thanks to all who joined today—heart you!), released two podcasts, hosted an e-course flash sale before retiring them, donated nearly $3000 AUD to Friends of the Koala, had tea and sought input from a few TranquiliT and TDJ lovers, tea and dinner dates with friends, numerous bath salt-infused soaks in the tub, lots of time with my journal.
Although this reads quite balanced, January wasn’t as grounding as I’d hoped for. Probably because I’m still settling in (picture a snow globe shaken up and my snow is still falling to the ground), reassessing, and trying to reconcile my inclination to take on more with my wavering energy levels.
If your year didn’t start out with a bang, never fear, I like to think of February as the new January. The hoopla has faded, we’re back into routine post-holiday, and we have a better grasp on how the year feels. Wishing you a smooth transition into February. May it be filled with romancing yourself and paying attention to your deepest longings. Bisous. x

Compassion IS the New Black
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. —Plato
The older I get, the more I know this to be true. Compassion is never wasted, whether it’s compassion for yourself, for others, for animals, or for the environment.
How can you be kinder to yourself today? How can you extend compassion to others? What small step can you take today to make a difference?
Smile at a stranger. Compost. Forgive yourself. Listen to the person in front of you. Send a thank-you note. Bring your own bag. Hold the door open for the person behind you. Ask, “how can I support you?” Use a gentle tone, even when you may not feel it. Recycle, even when inconvenient. Speak using “I” statements. Eat/use fewer animal products. Tote reusable beverage containers. Take a nap.
You make the world a better place, love! It’s an honor to share it with you. Bisous. x
