tranquilosophy: intention
last wednesday night i joined a friend for an evening of meditation with tara brach and the focus was intention. a favorite topic. setting an intention is encouraged at the start of each tranquil space yoga class and creates a space for clarity.
tara mentioned the mary oliver poem, "what do you plan to do with your one wild and precious life." this always gets me. and i ask myself this regularly. so juicy.
here are my notes {and snippets of my friend's notes}:
- we energetically share our intentions
- liberating intention: 1. manifesting innate potential, unfolding what is inherent to your nature. be who you are. live truth. 2. embodied and sincere 3. always relates to this moment
- intention is everything
- "before committing to anything that might add stress to your life, listen to hear your intention. only commit if it's a 100% resounding yes through your body" - oprah
- intention is like a flower blooming, asking the inquiry alone will help toward the blooming
- check in with your intention regularly, all the time, with everyone and every interaction
- it's okay to not know your deepest intention ... just asking helps
- when there is conflict, ask yourself of your intention
- where our attention goes, energy flows. ask self, "what matters most?
i found this talk to be a good reminder. intentions are powerful. one huffington post article encourages a morning intention, even claiming it will change your life. i'm open to a life change, et toi? clarify and embody intentions. bisous. x

daybook 3.0
it's time to begin the tranquility du jour daybook enhancing process and i always appreciate your input.
based on your feedback in the tranquility du jour daybook facebook group, personal suggestions, and my own use of the daybook, i'm contemplating the following alterations:
* align look with upcoming tranquility du jour anthology: a celebration of 10 years
* tranquility tips to replace journal prompts {and quotes from version 1.0}
* move daily checklist up to top
* back to softcover to lighten load
* check boxes in the to-do section
* remove data to remember {p. 194-195}
are there any other additions or subtractions you'd like to see? if so, please share below in the comments section or on our facebook group page.
i SO appreciate your support and am delighted this little pink planner has resonated with many of you.
and for your reading pleasure, a little "herstory" behind the daybook. bisous. x

tranquility du jour #318: running a dog rescue
Welcome to the 318th edition of Tranquility du Jour. Today's show features Jennifer Hessley on Running a Dog Rescue. You'll learn what it takes to run a rescue, ways to get involved, and how you can make a difference.
Featured Guest: Jennifer Hessley. In 2007, Jennifer adopted her very first dog, Abby, a 9 year old puppy mill survivor, who came with a tattoo’d number in her ear (a calling card of a breeder dog), the inability to walk on tile, and not knowing how to play with toys. Jennifer thought she was rescuing Abby, but in reality, Abby was rescuing Jennifer. Through her quiet, gentle, ladylike spirit, Abby guided Jennifer to her calling in life, to speak for those who have no voice of their own, and to tell the story of rescue and the power and magic that can come from people working together to make a change for shelter animals.
In 2009 Jennifer was one of a small team of dedicated people who founded Dachshund Rescue South Florida and grew the plight of one breed of dog in three county shelters in one state in the US, to a global community of people that empower DRSF to rescue every dachshund that comes through the door of the three shelters they work with - 200+ dachshunds per year, many severely injured and sick, heal them in body and soul, and place them in loving families where they will never have to worry about anything ever again.
Along the way, each member of the DRSF team brings their skillset to the table, with Jennifer drawing on her business, finance, and networking background to hold down the financial side of raising money for and paying vet bills for 60+ dogs in foster care at any time, along with being one of a small group of the DRSF social media team who research and share resources to empower their 90,000 Facebook fans to be better pet parents, encourage friends and family to “adopt not shop”, and tell the day to day story of the DRSF dogs from their shelter photo, freedom ride, healing journey through any treatment, and finally to their forever home, with a Happy Tales Photo. Jennifer tries with everything she has to let people know that no matter where they are, there are things they can do to make the world better for shelter animals and that if anyone doubts that there is good in the world, they need look no further than dog rescue….

mindful monday: walking the labyrinth
ghost ranch labyrinthyesterday i walked the labyrinth at ghost ranch. am i transformed? i don't think so. however, i'm basking in a newfound sense of awareness. raw awareness.
early friday i gathered le pug and headed to taos, new mexico for a weekend with family followed by a week of meditation and writing with dani shapiro. i was on the waiting list for months and was delighted when a spot opened in the taos summer writers' conference. after reading still writing, i felt i'd found a kindred writing spirit and was eager to study with her.
before settling into day one of the writer's conference this morning, i said my goodbyes to mom and pops. they're en route back to oklahoma as i type. we hit lavender fields, taos plaza, kit carson museum, numerous cafes, farm to table dining, and ghost ranch during our short adventure together. most with le pug in tow.
ghost ranch labyrinth was designed off chartres cathedral. thus, i knew the experience would offer a reality shift. before stepping into the maze, you may ask a question or use the walking as a meditation practice. however one chooses to interact with the labyrinth, there seems to be a calming, an opening, a quieting.
i dragged mom and pops along a dusty trail promising "fun." mom meandered along for a bit and then decided to rest on the bench while pops snapped photos of the landscape where georgia o'keefe painted. i felt overflowing gratitude while walking. despite a time filled with numerous raw emotions, i was overwhelmed with feelings of presence and completion.
sometimes life offers a little sliver of tranquility in unexpected ways. a contemplative walk, a warm smile or gentle touch just when you need it, a refreshing lavender iced tea, a "thinking of you" love note. you may not have the opportunity to walk a labyrinth today, but i hope that you have a few moments of contemplation to savor a sense of much-deserved spaciousness. it's found between the notes. between the breaths. between the lines. bisous. x
