Managing Overwhelm
This week’s TDJ podcast focused on ways to manage overwhelm and with the holidays upon us, we may need it more than ever. With all that’s happening in the world right now, finding go-to ways to get grounded and regroup can be a godsend.
You know those moments: you’re running late to an appointment and can’t find your keys, you hit PM instead of AM for your morning alarm and have only 15 minutes to prepare for a Zoom call, you left the pie in the oven five minutes longer than it should have and now it’s super crispy, you have a project due by the end of the day and you can’t access your creative muse.
Any of these resonate?
During these days/moments, I use one of these six tools to shift my energy asap.
1. Move
When I move my body and/or change the environment, I immediately feel different. Yes, it’s that simple!
2. Slow down
Moving quickly while multitasking or rushing leads to feeling out of control. Pause, breathe, and monotask.
3. Breathe
When your breath is short and shallow or your heart is racing, pause and take ten deep breaths to reset.
4. Read
Pick up an inspiring book (poetry is soul balm) and thumb through it to come back to the present moment. Preferably while sipping tea.
5. Connect
Feel your hips in the chair, feet on the floor, and clothing on your skin to connect to your body in this moment.
6. Write
Take out pen and paper to write out what’s on your mind to get clarity, process, and/or shake things off.
Next time you’re experiencing overwhelm, try one of these six tips to bring yourself back to baseline.
And, remember, you can always begin again. Bisous. x

Testimonials
I LOVE tucking a formerly used Daybook into my satchel and heading to coffee shop to reminisce and be inspired once again by the collages made, the quotes glued in, the photos printed and cherished and the desires attained. A visual anthology of the impermanence of life and the magic along the way. THANK YOU. —Marilyn
YAY!!!! I have tried many types of planners over the years but yours are the only ones that worked for me and that I enjoyed using. —Jen
I have tried many types of planners over the years but yours are the only ones that have worked for me and that I truly enjoy using. I love the layout of the Tranquility du Jour Daybook and use every single section. The quality, the colors, and the tranquility tools and tips come together to create an absolutely beautiful planner.—Deborah
I’ve used this planner for at least 5 years. What keeps me coming back year after year to this planner, is that I can make it my own. There’s seasons in my life in which I can use it to its fullest and I take advantage of all the lists and prompts. At other times, I take on a more minimalist approach to my planner and I use it for simple scheduling. —Amazon review

Personal Style
On this week’s podcast, I discussed personal branding with expert Porsha Thomas of GOWRKGRLS.
Although you may not consider yourself a brand if you’re not building a business, each day you ARE launching your own personal empire. After all, you are the CEO of YOU!
This week consider a few things: ✔ Highlight your strengths, interests, and quirks. ✔ Share your expertise through teaching, writing, speaking, and consulting. ✔ Describe your brand (what people think of when they hear your name). ✔ Be consistent in your messaging and frequency. ✔ Create community for like-hearted souls. ✔ Provide value and inspiration by creating tools, tips, and tutorials. ✔ Serve others.
As queen Maya Angelou reminds us, “Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.” You, my love, have the power to make a BIG difference. x

Meet TDJ
Craving chic and comfy style to take me from yoga class to an evening out, I worked with a seamstress to create the first four designs nearly two decades years ago. We started with yoga pants and tees, then incorporated wrap tops and a wrap dress.
Over the years TDJ (formerly TranquiliT) has added numerous mix-and-match pieces, additional eco-fabrics such as the organic cotton/organic bamboo/spandex fleece blend, won awards, transitioned to a local seamstress, and been featured in Washington Post, Washingtonian, and Shape. It’s been a journey!
And here’s an assortment of posts featuring the clothing line over the years and a signature style Pop-Up (style portion starts at 35:45) from the summer.
New Look
In an effort to consolidate and simplify, I’ve folded TDJ into this website and I shared why earlier this fall. I’ve paired the designs down to the essentials, transitioned to all black, and showcase many pieces on a variety of body shapes and sizes.
Why all black?
For years I’ve found simplicity and ease in wearing all black. As I prepared to streamline the clothing line, I decided to shift to an all-black collection for a variety of compelling reasons. Here’s 10 of them.
Everything matches, making daily dress-up fun and easy.
Black is chic, classic, and iconic.
It’s the standard for ballet and Zen.
Black dresses up or down. Christian Dior agrees, “You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it for almost any occasion.”
An LBD is a must in every closet.
Black makes a statement.
And it’s also an armor. Artist Georgia O’Keeffe said, “There’s something about black. You feel hidden away in it.”
It’s fun to add pops of playful accessories ( hello, leopard-print ) to monochrome looks.
Black is instant elegance and has continuously been the most popular color in our collection.
Take it from Coco Chanel, “When I find a color darker than black, I’ll wear it. But until then, I’m wearing black.”
So as you can see, black IS the new black. Paired with red lips, a warm smile, and a positive attitude, you’ll find you can wear noir wherever you go!
Take a peek
You’ll find the TDJ collection here.
On the horizon
It’s a work in progress. I’ll be adding updated videos, suggesting outfit ideas such as how to get a week’s worth of looks from a few pieces, and swapping out a design or two each season. If you have any suggestions or special requests, please reach out.
Motto
Style your tranquility, every day. Wear black, live pink.
Gratitude
You’re beautiful and I appreciate your support of eco-friendly fashion over the past *nearly* 20 years! We continue to plant a tree for each order shipped, donate to Pigs & Pugs Project, sew locally, and incorporate all the sweet touches you’ve come to know over the years. Bisous. x
PS If you’re missing a former favorite design, reach out. Since everything is custom made upon ordering, I’m happy to keep you wrapped in your beloved piece!

Art Journaling Joy
Last Friday I invited the LUXE group of the TDJ Lifestyle ecourse to join me for a private art journaling Pop-Up event.
We sipped tea, shared our favorite magazines, and spent one hour creating pages in our journals. I created the above collage and added some additional writing a few days later.
While I’m a longtime fan of traditional journaling (pen on paper), the addition of images in art journaling makes for a more full-bodied experience.
No fancy tools are needed, just a journal, writing tools, ephemera (bits of paper), washi tape, scissors and a glue stick.
The process is fairly simple. Create a background (with paint, a big image, colored pencils), layer with ephemera (images, words, quotes, letters, doilies, envelopes), and add writing (I like Sharpies).
The prompt I offered may also resonate with you. We have two months (9 weeks) left in 2020, what would you like to experience, do, create, and/or feel as we round out the year?
Yes, it’s been a hard one (I know, that’s an understatement) and, yet, we still have the chance to make things happen.
That may involve letting go of something, starting a project, getting clear on what we want 2021 to look like, making a change to our diet, shifting our morning routine, setting up a home office, or anything in between.
If you have a few minutes to spare, grab your journals, a few images, and let yourself play. You may be surprised at what bubbles up. Bisous. x
