Kim Harrison's Annual Halloween costume contest

If Halloween isn't my favorite holiday, it's really close, and to celebrate, I'm going to stage an on-line, costume contest again where you can duke it out for an advanced reader copy of PALE DEMON.  This will be the fourth year for this, and we have a few changes, but basically, it's you send me a picture, I post it on-line, I pick winners of categories, and Grand Prize winner is chosen at random from category winners.

I've got it all spelled out at the website, here.  Have fun, and please don't send me any pictures until the contest is officially open on the 18th.

It's time to decorate!!

Happy October, guys!  What I didn't tell you yesterday was when I was playing hookie, I was actually out to the grand Halloween opening of a decorator store.  They had been closed for several days beforehand to pull everything out and shift from Country to Halloween, and man, did they have the stuff!  -grin-  Everything but the bobbing apples.

I picked up two bags of stuff.  It's still sitting on my couch, waiting for the weekend when I pull out the other four tubs of stuff I've been collecting the last 20 years.  Tomorrow I decorate, and it's going to be fun trying to figure out where everything goes for the first time.

Today, though, I'm reading through book ten rough draft.

Gone Fishing

I'm out for the day, taking a break.  Website is shifted over, and I'll be reading the rough draft of book ten the rest of the week before I rip into it on Monday.  Mmmm, and the sun is shining!

Vampiric Charms is up again!

It was a long vacation that Guy took this summer, but trust me.  He has never worked harder.  He's lost about 20 pounds between digging out old straggly bushes, 35 yards of topsoil, 10 yards of mulch, several bags of grass seed, three bails of straw, five trips to the nursery for BIG trees, and a pile of rocks we are still finding homes for.  (I made him move them three times, but the pile was smaller each time, so I don't know what he's complaining about.  grin)

With the advent of the cooler weather, though, he's finally moved back inside and has set up an upstairs room as his base of operations for moving out the merchandise that you guys purchased over the summer.  Bottom line?  If you've ordered something and you don't get it or you've not heard from Guy in two weeks, drop him an email.  There are a few items that we forgot to bring up with us that will have to wait until mid October, but he's contacting you if you fall into that category.

On a more personal note, I'm getting ready to design this next year's freebies.  ;-)  I think you'll like them.  More info as I make some final decisions on them.

and now it's rainy. ;-)

I'm sort of liking this rain we've got going, though waking up in the dark still lacks the appeal it did when I was growing up.  But there is the plus of being able to sit inside a warm house and watch the busses go by without having to worry about getting out to the stop in time.  Guy started a tiny fire in the kitchen for me, and that was really nice to drink my morning tea at.  It's already out.  Just three little sticks, and that was enough.

Though I'm pushing my luck by saying so, work on the website is going nicely.  I'm remembering the tricks of working with Dreamweaver.  Last year was a mess as I was totally rewriting the site from FrontPage, which is good, but FrontPage hasn't written any new extensions (whatever those are) for about five years, and a lot of servers are having trouble working with it now.

The more I work within different art programs, the easier it gets to figure things out, and the help button is actually helping.  I don't know what's up with that.  I think maybe that's what's going to happen in 2012.  The stars line up, and the help button on your computer actually helps.  It's the dawning of a new era of peace. -grin-
