How to Improve Your Sports or other Life Performance with NLP Training!

Many great athletes agree that the difference between physical and mental effort in their performances follows the 80:20 Principle rule. That is – 20% physical effort and 80% mental. Yet many people spend 100% of their training time focused on developing their physical strength and skills. You can however enhance your sports performances by spending even 20% of your training time to develop your mental skills.

You can develop your mental skills using Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques. NLP brings together concepts related to neurology (and your brain), linguistics (and your language) and programming (and your actions and reactions). Through the study of NLP, you can develop your awareness of your thought patterns, your behaviours and your language to ensure that everything positively supports and contributes towards successful performances.

2 NLP techniques to help you improve your sports performances.

Well-Formed Outcomes

The first step that will make a difference to your performances is becoming clearer on the outcome you want to achieve. Used ‘Well-Formed Outcomes’ questions. Well-Formed Outcomes questions help to take your SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely) goals even further.

Using these questions you create a richer, vibrant and more meaningful outcome.

What do you want? State in positive terms.

Where are you now?  Specify present situation

Specify outcome, what will you see, hear and feel when you have it?  make it compelling

Specify evidence procedure, how will you know when you have it?

What will this outcome get for you or allow you to do?

Where, when and with whom do you want it? What resources do you need to get it?, what do you have now and what do you need to get your outcome, can you act as if you have it now?

What will happen when you get it? for what purpose do you want this?  What will you gain or lose if you have it.  what will happen if you get it, what won’t happen if you get it, what will happen if you don’t get it and what won’t happen if you don’t get it.

How will achieving this goal affect other aspects of your life?

These questions help you to clearly define your own measures of success and clarify the outcome or end result you want.

Additionally, you are creating a stronger magnet to keep pulling you forward towards that goal.

When you have connected to something that is bigger and beyond just achieving the goal, your motivation increases and your commitment to do whatever is necessary becomes even stronger.

Visualization

Visualization, also referred to as mental rehearsal, is a technique where you mentally rehearse your performance and imagine how things will flow from start to finish. you can rehearse your sports performance to help improve your performance abilities.  Many entrepreneurs and sales associates may mentally rehearse their presentations or speaking engagements.

This is a powerful technique because your unconscious mind does not distinguish the difference between what is real or what is imagined. If you have ever woken up in the middle of the night from a scary dream with your heart pounding and on high alert, you know how real it seems. Hopefully, for most of you, this is only an imaginary threat rather than an actual one! Yet, this example illustrates how powerful the mind is and how our body can react to something that was simply ‘only imagined’.

To do this mental rehearsal for your sports performance, imagine watching a movie of yourself doing your performance. See what you will see, hear what you will hear and even imagine feeling what you will feel. Add as much detail as possible, and even include brightness, colour, tastes and smells.

The Benefits of Visualization

By repeatedly watching your movie of you being the best you can be, you increase the likelihood to make a very real and very tangible difference to your performance.

When you arrive at the big day, perhaps a competition, your brain will think hey, I’ve been here, I’ve done that and I know what to do’ and will play out the movie that you’ve imagined so many times before… it’s important to really not only see the image but also hear any sounds and feel the feelings of being successful.  Now, another thing you could do which I teach to my clients is putting this goal, this visualization into your specific time line.  We all have a time line and store our memories in some sort of linear fashion, and I explain exactly how to do this in my Goal Getting Success E book which you can get for free by going to my website, www.lynnthiercom

there are many other NLP techniques that can make a positive difference to your performances in sports, business, relationships and elsewhere in life. Starting off with becoming very clear on the outcome you want to achieve and mentally rehearsing your next performance; you are creating the neural pathways in the brain for the physical body to simply do what you have mentally programmed it to do!

Where is your next sports performance, or life performance, where you can use the Well-Formed Outcomes questions and visualize your performance to enhance the results you achieve on the day? What would it feel like to put these techniques into play and experience the difference?

Coping with Grief over the Holidays… Tips 4 You.

Now that both my parents are gone, i admittedly find the holidays a bit difficult and sad.  I remember my dad always having friends over and going to midnight mass Christmas Eve.  Mom always had a beautiful dinner and loved to have company over.

While many view the winter holidays as a wonderful time of the year — after the death of a loved one, these occasions are not only less wonderful, but can also be stressful and depressing for many.

Grief can be an “emotional roller coaster” — one day you’re up and the next day you’re down — and feelings of loss can sweep over you unexpectedly at any time; dealing with grief and loss during the holidays can be tough.

Some tips to help you navigate the holidays while grieving include: Be gentle with yourself; listen to your body and your emotions; seek out activities and people that make you happy; learn to say no; and talk about how you’re feeling if that’s what works for you.

You can also use time line therapy techniques to release negative emotions, hypnotherapy for stress or depression might be very useful as well as the Emotional Freedom Techniques, a healthy diet, daily exercise, proper sleep, meditation and supplements to help you cope with holiday stress.

While some aspects of the holidays are changed forever due to the absence of your loved one, you can remember and honor them by creating new rituals.  Remember to look after yourself, your health and well-being.

Stress & Anxiety Over the Holidays….Free Gift For YOU!

Stress and Anxiety during the holidays can magnify and be horrible for some. So i have a free gift for you!  Get my StressLess Cheat Sheet FREE HERE

Time Line Therapy Techniques and Hypnosis has been proven to be an excellent treatment in the relief and reduction of anxiety, regardless of whether it is situational anxiety, like Christmas Time or “test anxiety,”.

While Hypnosis can train the mind to be calm in circumstances that might have previously invoked a panic attack, there is more to the equation than just the mind… In fact, science has proven that anxiety is exacerbated and even created from a diet high in sugar and caffeine, a fact many people never consider.

Eating lots of sugar is going to give you sudden peaks and valleys in the amount of glucose in your blood stream. Most people have heard of a “sugar rush” and a “sugar crash.” Symptoms of the crash include fatigue, irritability, dizziness, insomnia, excessive sweating (especially at night), poor concentration and forgetfulness, excessive thirst, depression and crying spells, digestive disturbances and blurred vision. Since the brain depends on an even supply of glucose, it is no surprise to find that sugar has been implicated in aggressive behavior, anxiety and depression.

These heightened negative states can wreak havoc on health, relationships and careers and render you powerless. I will work with you, using NLP Coaching, Time Line Therapy® and Hypnosis, to improve your nutritional habits so you are feeding your brain and body what they need to operate at peak performance. At the same time, we will reinforce relaxation techniques and tools that you may employ to bring back a state of calm anytime and anywhere. Results: An all-around improved quality of life.

Avoid Holiday Stress & Emotional Eating….

Overwhelm and overload are recipes for overeating – emotional eating in particular. When you’re busy and stressed, food becomes more tempting. Food can (temporarily) calm, numb, reward, and distract us all at the same time. When we’re stressed or overloaded, our brain is tapped out and we’re vulnerable to making the decision we don’t want to.

Emotional eating & overeating can increase during the holidays because there are more tempting treats; and because it’s a time of year that many people feel more stress and overwhelm.

One way to escape the trap is to focus on quality over quantity. Quality time with loved one’s and friends, quality sleep, quality rest, quality nutrient dense foods to nourish our bodies and our minds. Our multi-tasking, consumer-driven society would have you believe that more is always better…not true.

Five pounds lost with ease and left behind forever, feels better than ten pounds lost in a fast that you know will come back as soon as your willpower fades and you eat bread again.

overwhelmed, overloaded, and overeating is not helping you!

This season, commit to being present, enjoying the moment, doing less… and stop “shoulding” all over yourself.

Here’s today’s action step:

Make a list of three things, obligations, expectations you have,  Be honest,  Now, find a way to either eliminate them (say “no,” delegate, or simply cross them off your list), or limit the time and energy they will take in your life.  You are worth it!

Have you set your 2018 Goals Yet?

Why is consciously trying to reach your goals so hard??

You know what it’s like… you decide you want to achieve something, to get somewhere specific, then a few weeks later you wonder where the drive went?  the conscious mind is the goals setting and the unconscious mind is the goal getter!!

To get to a goal, especially one that takes longer than a few days, you need constant, sustained powerful action!

The conscious mind says things like:

“I’m going to do it., or i’m going to try..”
“I must keep focused on this”
“Why aren’t I working on this like I should?”

The unconscious mind is like a powerboat engine. Once it’s turned on it keeps powering you forward until it’s turned off.And that’s where hypnosis & time line therapy techniques come in  Using the power of the unconscious mind, you are able to set goals, put them in your future time line and make them happen…

Download my free Goal Getting Guide Now – at www.lynnthier.com

That’s right, you can find out where your time line is and then insert your goals into your future time line.  How cool is that!!  Be sure to go to my website to get your free guide, it will take you step by step through this process.

How to Avoid Holiday Stress and Emotional Eating? Tips 4 YOU!

This busy holiday season, I’m sharing simple habit-building tips for keeping in the holiday spirit and avoiding anxiety, overwhelm, stress, and emotional eating. Create these habits and routines now, why wait for January?

How much of your life do you spend operating (and eating) unconsciously? In a world that tells us to be consistently plugged in to email, Facebook, Twitter etc… and doing 5 things at once, slowing down enough to be present can be a challenge –AND it’s a skill that is necessary to taking control of your stress levels and emotional eating.

Being present and calming the nervous system down allows us to make better choices

Being present is what allows us to carefully examine the appetizer tray and decide whether we are truly physically hungry or what really looks good. When we’re tired, stressed or in a rush, we skip that step. Without thinking, we unconsciously reach for that food and we fill our plate, eating it all without really tasting it or enjoying it either…

Avoiding holiday stress and emotional eating – your challenge:

This December, I challenge you to practice slowing down and being present. Make a ritual out of taking five minutes every morning  to be present with yourself and to notice.

What are you thinking about?  What’s on your mind? Each day, write down 1 – 3 things that you could do that would relieve the most pressure on your to-do list and set your goal to get those things accomplished.  Notice how your body feels when you make your list.  After 2, 3 items how does it feel.  If you make a big list of 5 or more items, notice how your body may not enjoy such a bit list.  Break it down into small, doable steps for you!
Notice how and what emotions are you feeling.  Are you tired? Stress?  Exhausted? Happy? Depressed? Sluggish? Excited? If you notice something that could be improved with self-care (such as noticing that you aren’t getting enough sleep or activity), make a plan to remedy the situation. This probably isn’t the time to undertake a major life transformation, but you can set the intention of taking a brisk walk on your lunch hour or getting to bed thirty minutes earlier.  Notice what you notice and then make a plan to take action for self care!

If we don’t recognize our need for self-care and if we don’t give ourselves permission to slow down, we may resort to food and overeating or even bingeing to fill the gaps. Take charge and allow yourself some  time to slow down, you’ll be glad you did!
