Anger – a strange seduction…

Anger… a strange seduction…What comes first, thought or feeling? Even recalling times you felt very angry can be dangerously bad for the heart. for more information on the modalities i use such as hypnosis, time line therapy and NLP coaching go to www.lynnthier.com

Gastric Band Hypnosis ~ A Solution for W-Loss & Alternative to Surgery!

After many failed diets, Julie Bick turned to bariatric surgery in a desperate bid to lose weight.

The 50-year-old nurse and grandmother in Cobourg, Ont., had hoped that a gastric band, designed to temporarily reduce the size of her stomach, would help her shed pounds. Instead, she ended up feeling sick and miserable, suffering from constant indigestion and an unusual cough after undergoing the procedure in 2013.

Tests showed that Bick’s gastric band, which was supposed be around her stomach, was actually tightly wrapped around her esophagus, causing gastric reflux and other problems.  “What I learned about gastric bands is that it doesn’t always work,” Bick told CTV News. “It’s not foolproof…it’s not a long-term solution.”

Another patient, Jamie – said she paid $12,000 for the Lap-Band device in 2005, but doctors estimate that her hospital stays and procedures probably cost the health care system well over $100,000.

Both Bick and Dr. Urbach said it’s unfair that the public health care system is now on the hook for complications related to procedures performed in private clinics.

“It is a little bit unfair that a private clinic can perform these procedures and if there are downstream problems it is really the public system that becomes responsible for caring for the patients and for paying for costs of care down the road,” Dr. Urbach said.

Although gastric bands are less popular now than in previous years, Jamie said she wants people to be aware of all the risks involved.  Jamie is planning to join a proposed class-action lawsuit against Allergan Inc., the maker of the Lap-Band device.

“We have been contacted by dozens of people who have been implanted with this device. We believe, however, that there are many more patients out there in Canada who are simply unaware of this lawsuit,” lawyer David Moriarty of Rosenberg Kosakoski LLP, the firm spearheading the legal action, told CTV News.

A Solution & Alternative to Surgery could be just what is needed

Hypnotist Lynn Thier (RHN.) would like to invite local people struggling to lose and maintain their weight to take part in a trial to for a hypnotic weight-loss system which incorporates the Virtual Gastric Band, developed by UK clinical hypnotherapist Sheila Granger.

Following training, Lynn Thier will trial the procedure in Fredericton, NB.

The treatments are delivered in four weekly sessions and the participant believes that they have undergone bariatric surgery in the first session to reduce the stomach to the size of a golf ball.  This is followed by three further sessions which deal with the psychological triggers that allow a person to overeat.  Feedback shows that the hypnotherapy is like ‘flicking a switch in the brain’, turning off cravings and eating only until satisfied. The Virtual Gastric Band has received much attention in the UK, attracting people from all over the country to undergo the treatments which have a 95% success rate.

“I am very excited at the prospect of being able to help my clients to lose weight in this way.  There is nothing magical or mystical about hypnotherapy, instead it is a method that enables a person to help themselves.  As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Fitness Trainer, I’m also able to provide above and beyond hypnosis – Such as: nutrition education, exercise programs as well as other therapies that include NLP Techniques & Time Line Therapy(R).  My passion is hypnotherapy so i’m happy to refer clients to other healers & fitness trainers that are in alignment with me and who I consider to be excellent service providers.”  Lynn Thier

Low Carb Cream Cheese Pancakes

The 2 ingredient Low Carb Cream Cheese Pancakes. Just mix eggs and cream cheese to get delicious low carb, high taste pancakes. Ready in 10 minutes.

Ingredients

½ tbsp butter or coconut oil to cook with
2 eggs
2.5 oz cream cheese

Instructions

Add some butter to a pan and stick it on medium heat. OR use coconut oil

Throw the cream cheese and eggs into a bowl and mix with a fork until creamy. If you’re planning to, now is the time to add some extras. But be careful! The batter is quite runny, so I wouldn’t add things like nuts.

Alternatively you can use a blender, but remember to let the batter sit for a minute or two! It’ll cook better then.

Off it goes into the pan. I usually make just one big pancake, but two medium-sized ones would also work perfectly fine.

Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

Here are some ideas for extra ingredients to pimp these pancakes up. Check them out below! (All optional of course)

For the batter:

* 1 tsp of cinnamon

* 1 tbsp of protein powder

* 1 tbsp of small coconut flakes

* Vanilla extract

Topping ideas:

* Honey

* Maple syrup

* Cherries, strawberries

* Sugar and lemon juice

To your health, results and success!

Best High Protein Foods to Include!

Eggs

Protein Content: 6 g per 1 large egg

These are one of the most perfect high-protein foods  cheap, versatile, low-carb, and packed with branched-chain amino acids. Look for eggs fortified with extra omega-3 fatty acids to give your breakfast an extra nutrition boost.  I eat them pretty much on a daily basis and love making omelettes and mini quiche in a non stick muffin tin.  Great for on the go!  Hard-boiled eggs are one of the most portable protein foods as well… I also use eggs when making my protein pancakes that are so delicious, so Enjoy!

Eggs

Wait, aren’t eggs high in cholesterol?  Yes, eggs contain a high amount of cholesterol. One large egg has about 200 mg of cholesterol.  A few things on that:

– Dietary Cholesterol Isn’t Bound to Blood Cholesterol. There is little-to-no relation between dietary cholesterol and higher blood cholesterol levels, nor any legitimate link between dietary cholesterol and the incidence of heart disease.

– The Human Body Makes Cholesterol.Your liver makes 3-6 times more cholesterol than you can get eating eggs and/or other animal products.

– Cholesterol is Vital To Your Body. You need it for the production of steroid hormones like testosterone and also to build & repair cells (which is a perpetually occurring process in the human body).

So yes, eggs themselves are high in cholesterol, but no, consumption of eggs does not cause a spike in human cholesterol levels.

High Protein Dairy
Greek Yogurt

Protein Content: 23 g per 8-oz. serving

Greek yogurt has become such a popular choice because it has twice as much protein as other types of yogurt. It’s also rich in bone-building calcium and probiotic bacteria, which is great for gut health. Look for plain Greek yogurt to keep sugar—and your weight—in check.  I will often times have some plain Greek yogurt with berries and a few sliced almonds – and to sweeten it a little, either some all natural maple syrup, honey or Stevia.

Cottage Cheese

Protein Content: 14 g per 1/2-cup serving

Make cottage cheese your go-to protein for a healthy late-night snack. It’s high in casein, a dairy protein that digests more slowly than whey. Slow-digesting protein feeds your muscles all night so they don’t catabolize, and it keeps you from waking up starving at 3 a.m.  I enjoy cottage cheese with cantaloupe or berries –  a great snack or lunch idea.

cottage cheese

Whey Or Casein Protein Powder

Protein Content: 24 g per scoop, on average

Whey protein powder is clean, fast-digesting, and most of its calories come from protein. It’s also convenient—just mix it with water in a shaker bottle. Reach for protein powder whenever you need quick, no-prep protein, like after a workout, for an on-the-go breakfast, or alongside a low-protein meal.

If you need something that’ll help you hide from hunger a little longer, go for slow-digesting casein powder instead of whey. It won’t hit your muscles as fast, but it can keep you full for hours and can help you lose fat without losing muscle mass.

You can also use protein powder to make high-protein pancakes. They make a great pre-workout or post-workout snack if you need a break from shakes.  If you’re sensitive to artificial sweeteners, look for an unsweetened protein powder or one sweetened with stevia.

Smoothies

Protein Content: 16 g per 1-cup serving, on average – Up your protein-shake game by blending casein or whey protein powder into a smoothie with fruit for its vitamin content. To make a plant-based smoothie, substitute a vegan protein powder in place of animal-based casein or whey. A blend of rice protein and pea protein is a good option for muscle growth.

One of my favorites is blending some unsweetened coconut milk, water, 1 scoop whey protein powder, 1/2 cup berries, handful of spinach, 1/2 cup kefir or Plain Greek Yogurt, some ice and blend.

smoothies

Frozen Greek Yogurt

Protein Content: 6 g per 1/2-cup serving

Frozen Greek yogurt is frosty and creamy like ice cream, but contains about twice as much high-quality protein. Compare brands and look for those with the lowest sugar levels (or make it yourself). Some brands actually list fruit before sugar in the ingredient list, which is a plus.

High Protein Seafood

Halibut

Protein Content: 23 g per 3-oz. serving – Among white fish species, halibut reigns supreme when it comes to the protein you need to build muscle like a champ. Each 3-ounce serving also has a mere 2 grams of fat, making halibut an even better catch of the day.Pacific halibut is generally considered a more sustainable choice than Atlantic.

halibut

Sockeye Salmon

Protein Content: 23 g per 3-oz. serving – Not only does wild salmon like sockeye taste better than its farmed cousin, it also supplies more protein. In addition, you’ll reap the benefits of its plethora of fat-fighting long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. Look for salmon with the skin still intact, as it provides added flavor during cooking.

sockeye salmon
Tilapia

Protein Content: 21 g per 3-oz. serving – Commonly available at most fish markets, protein-packed tilapia is a mild-tasting fish that will keep your muscles well fed.Look for American-farmed tilapia, which is a safer fish choice than tilapia imported from Asia.

Anchovies

Protein Content: 24 g per 3-oz. serving – Ounce for ounce, anchovies are the surprising winners when it comes to canned protein. Because of their size, they also don’t accumulate toxins the same way that bigger species do. To reduce their saltiness, soak anchovies in water for 30 minutes, then drain and pat dry.

Light Tuna

Protein Content: 22 g per 3-oz. serving – Frugal shoppers, rejoice! Less-pricey canned light tuna actually provides a little more protein than more expensive canned white tuna. To save yourself some calories and fat- opt for water-packed tuna. Canned tuna is a very low-calorie food.

light tuna
Sardines

Protein Content: 21 g per 3-oz. serving – Humble canned sardines are making a comeback! This high-protein fish is full of omega-3 fats and vitamin D, and is relatively low in mercury since it’s small and low on the food chain. Try stirring them into mashed potatoes or cauliflower to cut their strong taste.

High Protein Meats
Steak (Top Or Bottom Round)

Protein Content: 23 g per 3-oz. serving – These leaner cuts of steak provide a fantastic 1 gram of protein for every 7 calories; rib eye, on the other hand, delivers roughly 1 gram of protein for every 11 calories. Plus, round steak is considered one of the more economical cuts. Leaner cuts of steak like round and loin will become drier than the Sahara with overcooking, so prepare them quickly over high heat to medium-rare.

steak
Ground Beef (90% Lean)

Protein Content: 18 g per 3-oz. serving – Using 90 percent ground beef provides just the right amount of fat so your burgers and meatloaf won’t taste like cardboard. Beyond raising your protein intake, this red meat is also a good source of the almighty creatine. If you have some extra cash, opt for grass-fed beef, which is more nutrient-dense than its factory-farm counterparts.[2]

Chicken Breast (Boneless And Skinless)

Protein Content: 24 g per 3-oz. serving – This bodybuilding and weight-loss staple is a better protein source than other poultry cuts, which is why it should remain a constant presence in your shopping cart. To save money, stock up on this staple when it’s marked down for quick sale.  Mike and I always find the sales on Chicken and load up the freezer!  Great to pre cook and cut up to top on salads, make stir fry and much more…

chicken breast
Turkey Breast

Protein Content: 24 g per 3-oz. serving – As with chicken, this big bird can flood your muscles with protein while keeping the calorie count low. Like pork chops and chicken breast, turkey breast can benefit from a pre-cook brining. If you’re concerned about antibiotic use in large-scale poultry farming, you can look for turkey breast labelled “antibiotic-free.”

Roast Beef

Protein Content: 18 g per 3-oz. serving – Roast beef is leaner than you’d think, and higher in amino acids than other deli-counter picks. As with steak, pasture-raised roast beef is more nutritious.

Canadian Bacon

Protein Content: 15 g per 3-oz. serving – Canadian-style bacon is a better high-protein food than regular bacon since it has about six times less fat. And yes, we just gave you permission to eat bacon…  Of course, not in high amounts :)

Beef Jerky

Protein Content: 13 g per 1-oz. serving – Cleaning up your diet might mean saying goodbye to potato chips and microwave popcorn, but you can still enjoy jerky for a salty treat that doesn’t derail your goals. Keep some in your desk at work for an afternoon snack. Look for healthier brands that are free of MSG and nitrites.

High Protein Plant-Based Foods
Navy Beans

Protein Content: 20 g per 1-cup serving – Heart-healthy beans are a fantastically cheap vegetarian protein source, and of the most commonly available canned legumes, navy beans lead the way. They’re also rich in fiber, which is important for healthy eating.  Mash navy beans with garlic and lemon as a hummus alternative.

Dried Lentils

Protein Content: 13 g per 1/4-cup serving – Inexpensive dry lentils are a sure-fire way to ramp up your intake of protein, fiber, and a range of vital minerals. Unlike other dried beans, lentils don’t require an annoying presoak. Simply simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. For a nutritious lunch, toss cooked lentils with chopped chicken breast, diced vegetables, and a lemon vinaigrette.

Peanut Butter

Protein Content: 8 g per 2-tbsp serving – Though not as trendy as other nut butters like almond, peanut butter still leads the way in the protein department. Make sure to watch labels for sugar, though. Natural versions made from just peanuts are best—some stores even let you grind your own.  If you’re working to get your weight in check, look for peanut butter powder, which has less fat but the same protein content. You can even use the powder for baking.

Mixed Nuts

Protein Content: 6 g per 2-oz. serving  – Nuts like peanuts, cashews, and almonds make for a crunchy way to add more protein and healthy unsaturated fats to your diet. Keep a can in your glove compartment for hunger emergencies. If you’re watching your sodium intake, look for packages labelled “unsalted”.

Bean Chips

Protein Content: 4 g per 1-oz. serving – If you’re craving crunchy chips, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better option than the ones made with protein-rich black beans. For bonus points, use them as a delivery vessel for a homemade Greek yogurt dip.

Tofu

Protein Content: 12 g per 3-oz. serving – If you’re looking to go meat-free, slabs of tofu can fill you up with soy protein. Slices of firm tofu work well in stir-fry, or slap them on the grill to infuse them with some smoky flavor. A good marinade goes a long way. You can even make a smoothie with tofu instead of protein powder.

Edamame

Protein Content: 8 g per 1/2-cup serving – Another great vegetarian option, these nutrient-packed green soybeans will give your diet a boost of plant protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. To avoid snack boredom, prepare shelled, frozen edamame according to package directions, then season with fresh lemon juice, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt.

Green Peas

Protein Content: 7 g per 1-cup serving – While protein is not abundant in most vegetables, green peas contain enough that you’ll want to keep a bag stashed in your freezer at all times. They’re also high in fiber, so they help manage your weight and cravings.

Wheat Germ

Protein Content: 6 g per 1-oz. serving – The wheat grain is made up of three components—endosperm, bran, and germ. The germ is the most nutrient-dense part and includes notable amounts of plant-based protein. You can use it to add a protein boost to your oatmeal, pancakes, and even shakes.

Quinoa

Protein Content: 8 g per 1-cup serving- Among whole grains, South American quinoa (technically a seed) is a rarity in that it contains a full arsenal of essential amino acids, meaning that it’s a complete protein with muscle-building potential.Toasting quinoa in a dry skillet or saucepan before simmering it in water can enhance its natural nutty flavor.

Wellness Wednesday~Time to Plant your Garden?

It’s Time to Plant Your Garden

You might be a little like me, i don’t really have a green thumb or  a desire to plant a physical garden however…. when it comes to change and shifting gears, it can be a challenge depending on what programs are running in your unconscious mind!  We tend to hang on to Sh*t for reasons that may be conscious or even unconscious.  Our strategies, habits and patterns serve a purpose and our bodies become addicted to what is familiar.  Whether its good, or not so good!

If you want to shift or change your emotional patterns & responses you must unplug, release the old.  The first step is awareness and even recognizing that these habits, patterns or strategies are not serving you.

This is where your garden comes in…..if you wanted to plant a garden, the first step would be to remove the old, dead growth, the rocks and the leaves that have accumulated over the winter. Raking it all up and getting rid of the old.  Trying to plant new seedlings without cleaning up the debris, would make it difficult for the new seedling to take root.

You have to uproot the old plants and make room for the new. The same is true with your brain.

In order to create healthier brain connections and patterns, you have to “release” the old patterns, habits and behaviors. Here are a few simple steps to re-wire your brain:

Write down all the patterns that you want to release and change.
Decide what you want to replace those patterns with? If you know what you don’t want, make a big list and then ask yourself, what do i want instead?  Start writing.
Choose 1 habit or pattern that you want to change and take 15-30 minutes to visualize yourself uprooting the old habit and replacing it with the new one.  What will you see, hear and feel with the new habit?
Visualize it in vivid colors, sounds, tastes, smells, and emotions. See yourself living in that future expectation… Then float into that image and take on all those perspectives.

Monday Mindset – How to Nourish Possibilities

Want, Create and possibility are my favorite words. They free up energy, lift moods and create change.

Unfortunately, if you’re someone trying (unsuccessfully) to make changes, in any area of your life, your mind might not be your strongest ally.  Mindset can propel you forward and it can also be your biggest stumbling block.

Most approaches to overeating don’t address mindset, and that’s a problem.

As a NLP Life Coach, & Hypnotherapist, thoughts and feelings are usually the first place I look if someone is stuck, and today, I want to challenge you to do the same.

Stop for a moment and consider how you’ve been talking to yourself today. What’s the dialogue that runs in your head sounded like so far?

Are they words of possibility? Is the self-talk positive, encouraging, motivating?

Or are you calling yourself names, judging yourself, talking to yourself in a way that you’d never speak to anyone, or blaming your situation on all the things that “make life impossible”?

This is a key part of mindset and the more you are aware of it, the more successful you can be.

There’s something called a growth mindset. It involves approaching challenges and situations from a belief that you can grow and change, that you can effect a positive outcome. That problems or “failures” aren’t signs that you are a failure, instead they’re opportunities to grow and to learn more about how to succeed.

There is a way of approaching even the worst failure and finding opportunity and motivation for growth.

The opposite of a growth mindset is a fixed mindset. It’s a belief that you are stuck and powerless against circumstances beyond your control.  This is where I see so many smart, busy women stuck and feeling at the mercy of overwhelm, overload, and overeating.

Feeling like there’s not enough energy or time or motivation. Overloaded calender’s and to do lists!

Life is too short and you’re working too hard.

I challenge you to pick a place where you feel stuck and take one step to shift into a growth mindset.

Find one place where you have been feeling stuck or frustrated with yourself and consider it from a different perspective. Be curious about what you can learn. Why are you getting stuck? What is throwing you off track? What change or new approach might help with this situation?  What if you could …..

What are you needing that would help you lean into growth instead of throwing up your hands in frustration?

These are big questions, and they can be game changers. Adopting a growth mindset means learning about what we don’t know and being open to learning how to approach things differently.

Today, be attentive to your mindset. It can make all the difference.  To your Health, Results, Happiness and Success!

I hate to tell you the Truth….when it comes to emotional eating…

I don’t like to be negative, but when it comes to emotional eating, most advice isn’t very effective.

“Just stop eating… just stay out of the kitchen…”

“Make sure that if you’re eating, it’s because you are really, hungry.”  Just put your fork and knife down would ya!”  Its not that hard”.

Really? If it were this simple, emotional eating wouldn’t be the BIG problem that it is for so many smart, highly successful women.

The truth is, most women have developed complicated relationships with food. Over a lifetime, we learn to associate food and eating with lots of different things – it makes us feel better, safe, secure, comfort, a way to numb out, a reward, … pleasure.

In a pinch, food can feel like your best friend.  It’s powerful.

Telling yourself NOT to do something only works for a very short time…because your mind is constantly thinking about what you can’t or shouldn’t have.  You’ll want it even more.

What really works is developing a set of solutions that actually address the problem – that feed your need for comfort, or a treat, or something special. Because once that craving is fed, you don’t need food to fill that hole anymore.

You may feel like you’re the only one, but the truth is that many smart women don’t know how to feel nourished and fulfilled without turning to food.

It’s true. I know this because I’ve gone through it myself and spend years coaching others about it.  Put an end to emotional eating, and learn how to eat, and then how to “treat” yourself and still lose weight if that is your goal…. Working with the unconscious mind using hypnosis can also help with emotional eating… and addressing underlying emotional isues or significant emotional events using Time Line Therapy is most powerful and helpful, getting to the root causes and releasing Anger, Sadness, Fear, Hurt, Guilt, Depression, and much more!

A Solution for you!  Do you want to get into shape and reach your optimal health and weight? I’m looking for 10 people for my next W-Loss Made Easy Program! Do you have 20 or more pounds to lose? You May Qualify for our WLoss Grant Program & be reimbursed 80% when you reach your goal!
