How to stop emotional eating without relying on willpower or going hungry!

Are you determined to figure out how to stop emotional eating or overeating? The truth is, making a plan for what and when you’re going to eat only goes so far. In fact, sometimes it won’t even get you past the plate of pastries your colleague left in the kitchen.  Saying no to food is not always simple.  Trust me, i know!

Truth: for most smart, busy women, overeating includes emotional eating and focusing on food alone isn’t going to fix the problem. What are you really hungry for?  Ask your unconscious mind!


Truth: women are busier, more stressed, and more overwhelmed than ever and we’re heavily influenced to use food for a multitude of reasons that have nothing to do with fuel.


Stress eating, comfort eating, eating because we are bored, stressed, tired, overwhelmed all fuel the overeating fire. No food plan in the world addresses these triggers to overeat.

So stop feeling guilty for not being stronger. Here’s some tips for success you can actually live with.



Stop blaming yourself for past failures with weight loss. one NLP Presupposition states.  “There are no failures, only learning and feedback”.  Instead of being angry with yourself, focus on generating curiosity about what’s going on.
Pay attention to  why  and  when  you overeat. There’s always a reason and it’s NOT because you are weak or lazy.  Ask yourself, am i physically hungry?  If not, what emotion are you feeling now?
Ask yourself what you are  really hungry for .  What are you craving that isn’t fuel for your body? Do you need love, attention, recognition, to laugh, to cry, to dance?
Give Hypnosis a go – if you are feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, hypnosis can help.  You can schedule hypnosis sessions with a certified hypnotherapist to aid in changing mindset and habits.
Create new ways to feed yourself that don’t involve eating. Pay attention to what triggers you to reach for that unhealthy food and address stress, or your need for a treat in ways that aren’t food (and that ultimately work better).
Start focusing on where you want to go and stop beating yourself up for where you are. Design rewards for small milestones achieved and create goals that put a smile on your face. Consider why you want to lose weight, lower your cholesterol, or be healthier. What amazing fun things do you want to do, be or have?
Tweak it. You won’t get it perfect and that’s OK. Learn from what works and what doesn’t and keep moving forward. Pay attention to the places you feel stuck. Awareness is key…

I underwent gastric band hypnosis to lose weight

Over the last two decades, Kari Jenner has tried every method of weight loss imaginable.  Crash diets, GP prescribed pills, diet shakes, a 24-hour gym membership, advice books and even starvation.


She owns a vibration machine, a weight set and over 15 books with titles such as Throw out your scales and You on a diet.Seeing the books piled together for a photograph, Kari remarks, ‘what a waste of money’.


In May, Kari underwent her first session of hypnosis as part of a four-week program.  So instead of a hospital room, the woman is actually undergoing hypnosis to plant the suggestion in her mind she has undergone a gastric band operation.


In a hospital, the gastric band operation can cost up to $5000 or more, but the virtual gastric band method using hypnosis, as it’s known, cost Kari anywhere from 800-1000.


The session

In a quiet room with a dark blue recliner and desk the only furniture, the light regular tones of clinical hypnotist Angelo Sette is the only sound, apart from the faint hum of passing traffic.


In the last four years, he has treated around 250 South East residents of varying ages and weight loss goals.


“Hypnosis is a tool,” he says.  “It works because people want it to work.”


He explains his treatment is miles away from that of ‘Hollywood hypnosis’ or that seen on television or stage shows, where people have barked like a dog or simulated dance moves in front of amused audiences.


Although different for each individual, he said the average person had achieved a hypnotic state possibly thousands of times in their lives without even realizing it.  Describing it as ‘a deep peaceful state’, he said clients were not asleep or unconscious, although some did fall asleep during the session.


“It’s a means of helping people realise abilities they may not be aware of…making them more susceptible to suggestions.”


At the beginning of the session, the hypnotherapists discusses the program and explains his 10 golden rules.


Some are common sense, such as to exercise for a block of 30 minutes a day and to eat consciously and slowly, not while watching television or reading a book.  He avoids the word ‘weight’, instead using the terms ‘shape and size’.


Angelo asks the client to ‘visualise a hospital ward, the sensation of drifting off under anaesthetic’.


Twenty minutes later, the woman opens her eyes, believing she has had a small silicone band placed around the top of her stomach.


Lifestyle change

Kari Jenner booked in for the sessions after seeing the ad on television.


“A friend of mine had hypnotherapy for giving up smoking and it was really successful – I don’t disregard alternatives. “Your brain is amazing – I do believe in the power of the mind.”


Prior to the first session, she told herself that she was undergoing gastric band surgery, saying she hoped ‘it would kick in her mindset’.  “I don’t know what I expected. I went in there with no preconceived ideas.”


During the session, Kari said she fell asleep but when the sounds changed to that of a hospital, she said something strange happened.


“It was the weirdest thing. “I felt like I was getting an anesthetic, that dreamy dizzy feeling, but then I snapped out of it.”


She described the first week after the session as ‘hard’ as she kept expecting the effects of the hypnosis to do the work for her.


As part of her homework, she must listen to a 20 minute CD recording of part of her hypnosis session.


Kari said she wanted to be slim by the time she turned 40. That milestone is just two weeks away.


Her years of trying various weight loss methods began, some healthy and some not so healthy. “I’ve done the whole starving thing,” she said.”I was eating one salads with tuna on it for lunch and a small dinner and I was walking four kilometres a day.”


Although Kari said she lost a huge amount of weight, the diet backfired on her, with her gall bladder having to be removed and doctors telling her crash dieting may have been the cause.  Kari said like all the other methods, they worked for a short period of time but were not long term.


In the middle of last year, she joined a 24-hour gym, but said she lost momentum in a matter of months.


Kari said she’s been bombarded by other people telling her what she should be doing.


“They say, ‘no you need to eat six small meals a day, all fruit diets, go vegan, protein drinks’, then when I spoke to another person, they said ‘I should be doing it like them’.”There’s so much different information that we’re being bombarded with.”


She feels uncomfortable in her clothes when she’s overweight and said sometimes a sadness creeps over her when she’s around her ‘skinny friends’ who are wearing clothes she can no longer fit into.


Kari’s health is also suffering. “Sometimes I get sore knees – it’s from carrying this,” she points to her stomach.  But her motivation for wanting to lose weight comes from within. “I’m a bit selfish when it comes to that.

Intermittent Fasting & Fear of Being Hungry…

The big question at some point always comes back to hunger.  How do you handle feeling hungry?

I have a few ways to deal with this. Some days I plan to fast, but I may wake up and feel hungry and on those days I just decide to eat instead and fast the next day. You can always change your schedule







 










Wait it out

I have found that just having some water or herbal tea (without any sweetener) and keeping myself busy allows me to handle my morning fasts.  Hunger does have a circadian rhythm. The hunger hormone is called ghrelin. This hormone rises and falls in a natural pattern that is low in the morning and higher in the evening. It’s lowest point is typically about 7:50 AM and it’s highest point 12 hours later at 7:50 PM. (During extended fasts the ghrelin hormone declines to a point where after 2 or 3 days hunger disappears.)







 










Eat plenty of healthy fat

The other thing that makes a difference is making sure you are eating enough fat when you are eating. Fat makes a person satiated and really helps prevent hunger cravings. I will be sending out another email dealing with more specifics of fat. So the days you eat, make sure you are having a good amount of fat, because you will not be as hungry the days you do fast. And the flip side of this is watch out how many carbs you have. If you eat mostly carbs the night before a fast day, you will probably have a harder time fasting because the carbs will not stay with you. Fat will last longer.







 










Get away from the food

One of the other things I have found helpful is to stay away from food.  I want to make sure I am taking water with me so that I am drinking enough. If you are working, you may find that fasting on a work day is a good choice for you (but not a day when there are lots of snacks or sweets available at your workplace), because you are busy and food is not easily available. Be sure to always plan ahead.














The fear of being hungry is a mental game, not a physical one, for most people.  If you are determined and you want to experience the benefits of intermittent fasting, you can absolutely do it!  Support helps or doing it with other people can also encourage you to stay on task…


Lastly, to help you even more, work with your unconscious mind by using Hypnosis and/Or Time Line Therapy to let go of negative emotions tied to food as well as any limiting beliefs such as “i can’t go without breakfast, Or i can’t lose weight easily”.

Weight Loss, Hypnosis, & the 4 Habits to Implement…

Weight Release!  Yes that’s what we all want isn’t it?  For the weight to once and for all release from our bodies and to stay gone forever.  You see, the unconscious mind is very literal and it doesn’t like to lose anything!  the word “loss or lose” has many negative connotations or negative feelings come up when we talk about loss… I lost my (family member), i lost my dog, i lost my shirt, i lost my (wife/husband), i lost my keys,… You get the point right?  Who wants to lose or to feel loss?  When we release the weight and attain our goals, we become winners!


So once you learn more about the unconscious mind and how it works for your greater benefit, you may change the wording you use in many areas of your life.  for example, you unconscious mind cannot process a negation directly, so when i say… “Don’t think of your favorite dessert”, what just happened?  Did you mind fill up with all the yummy desserts you love?  I bet it did.  But, i said don’t!… so what is the key?  Ask yourself what you want specifically?  and What will you gain by shedding the weight?  My clients tell me they’ll gain better health, more energy, better sleep, confidence and self esteem.  So what will you gain?


You see, I’ve struggled with weight for many years, from the age of 16 when i was first put on anti depressants and gained 30 lbs!  I began bodybuilding at age 18 which really helped and i continue to train today at age 47.  During those years, i had some significant emotional events happen, stress and yo yo dieting too.  i gained 80 lbs when i was pregnant and weighed 210 lbs.  It took time to get the weight off, and i went down to 130 lbs.


I have fluctuated between 165 and 145 for many years.  Some of my eating habits/emotional eating was tied to early sexual abuse.  And the research shows that many women who are overweight, were abused in some way as children.  The weight stays on for protection.  So when they begin to lose the weight, they self sabotage (unconsciously) because the unconscious mind is saying, I have to protect you and i will.  Many women tell me they don’t know why they keep self sabotaging themselves… it may be linked to childhood emotional events.


If your sad, depressed, stressed, pissed off, frustrated, hurt do you eat?  NO, we want to deal with those emotions instead of filling the void with unhealthy foods.  Time Line Therapy techniques can greatly help release those negative emotions from root cause.  To learn more about TLT go HERE


Now, there are 4 Habits i go by now and you can also implement these 4 easy healthy habits.  I didn’t come up with them, they actually come from a famous hypnotist in the UK, Paul McKenna,  I don’t  think Paul invented them. I think they actually preexist Paul, but he made them popular.


Habit number 1 is to ask yourself, AM i physically Hungry?  Or do i need love, attention, a hobby or something else?  Eat when you are truly physically hungry and have a glass of water first to make sure you are not just thirsty!


Habit number 2 is eat when you enjoy – within reason as there are plenty of healthy foods to enjoy.  If you hate Brussel sprouts like i do, don’t eat them.  Its not about forcing yourself to eat foods you hate, that will not last.  its also not about restricting all other foods either.  If you LOVE chocolate, and i tell you that you’ll never be able to eat it again, how long will that last?   This is why so many Diets fail because of the restrictions.  98% of diets fail, when you use willpower alone!


In step number 2, I go a step beyond and get my clients to ask themselves this question.  “Is this food i’m about to eat bringing me towards or away from my goals?”  This is a powerful question because your unconscious mind will let you know.


Habit number 3 is to eat consciously and mindfully.  What does that mean exactly?  Slow down, way down and eat without distractions.  Take time at the dinning room table to eat without the TV, cell phone or computer near by.  Really taste and enjoy your food slowly which will also help with digestion.


Habit number 4 is to stop eating when you feel satisfied but not full.  Are you a clean plate club member?  Growing up we had to eat what was in front of us before we could leave the table.  Know that you can leave a little bit of food on your plate which will also send a signal to the unconscious mind that you are in complete control around food.  You can save it for later for when you are truly physically hungry!


If you follow these golden steps and practice them consciously for about 2 to 3 weeks, they will begin to be unconscious behaviors.  If all you do is these steps, you will see a difference in your waistline.  My goal for you is to find success, do what’s right for your body and mind.

Strategies & How to Stop Overeating…

If your New Year’s resolution to stop overeating has failed or taken a deep nose dive, you’re completely normal & human. AND, there is hope…Because, even though goals and resolutions are what everyone seems to focus on, they aren’t the real drivers behind changing your eating habits.


In fact, Lets talk about enhancing your progress and your results.


Its time to include a strategy. At best, goals to stop overeating and to “eat healthy” might include a long list of rules that you’ve decided on. While rules might be useful, they’re not motivating and frequently difficult to put into place. 


Strategy number 1 is Accountability.  How can you keep yourself accountable to your goal?  Check something off everyday, or enlist the help of others!  Announce your goal or share the journey with a friend.

W-Loss Grants Program-Are you Eligible?

How it Works





Weight loss grants assist in defraying the cost of weight loss programs for overweight men and women who have expressed a supreme desire to lose the excess weight that’s making them feel unhealthy and less energetic.






Once you submit your application, a representative will contact you by telephone to confirm your information and learn more about your weight loss goals.  It will take approximately 1 to 2 business days to process your application once your information is confirmed.













About Us











The Weight Loss Grant Program is operated by the Oral Aesthetic Advocacy Group Inc, (OAAG) a research, information and funding organization founded in 2010 by health care practitioners and industry professionals.


The OAAG began by providing cosmetic dentistry grants (www.cdgo.org) to people across North America that wanted to improve their smile and overall oral health.  Up to $3 Million in funding subsidies is allocated each year to help people lose weight and take control of their overall health.


The program is open to all Canadian residents that are aged 18 and over as of their application date.

You may use the weight loss company of your choice to lose your weight, provided the company you select is reasonably recognized as a credible operator in the weight loss industry.







Applicant/Recipient Funding Agreement

As an applicant, or potential recipient of a Weight Loss Grant, You agree to the following terms:


   1. You agree that your weight loss program may not consist, or partially consist of any invasive or surgical procedures.


   2. You certify that funds will only be disbursed to You upon verification of your starting weight, and the successful completion and verification of your weight loss goal within the period of time allocated for achieving your goal.

3. You are responsible for informing us of any change or changes to your weight loss program or Service Provider during the period of time between your weigh-in and the commencement of your weight loss program


   4. You must remit your Health and Weight Diagnosis form to us prior to the commencement of your weight loss program.

5. You agree that we may provide your information to authorized Service Providers, co-payers or Sponsors, their respective staff, third-party agents, volunteers or subsidiaries, for the purpose of providing you with referrals or consultations and to communicate with You regarding the status of your application; and/or to perform functions such as weigh-ins and customer service, etc.


6.  If You are awarded a grant, You will write a thank-you letter to us that acknowledges the award. Payments will not be awarded unless/until a thank-you letter is received.


   7.  You agree to allow us to publicize or advertise you and/or your ‘Thank You’ letter to us and the disbursement of funds to You, and to utilize, without limitation, the use of any image or likeness of you already in the public domain, and/or upon request, to provide us with a suitable, current image of you taken after you have achieved your weight loss goal.


   8. You agree to lose a minimum of 20 (twenty) pounds, or 17% (seventeen percent) of your verified weight, whichever is greater.


   9. You consent to receiving email and telephone communications from us or our sponsors.

10. You certify that You are at least 18 years of age.


A SOLUTION for YOU!  W-Loss Made Easy Program

Are you in Hot Water?

Have you heard about the anecdote – the frog in hot water.  well, it states that if a frog is placed in hot water, it will instantly jump out, but if it’s placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and be slowly cooked to death.


Now, this is just a metaphor… but I do think the story has some powerful lessons that we can learn from.  Are you boiling in hot water and don’t even know it?


If things in your life aren’t going the way you want, you might just be a frog in hot water. That’s OK. Step one to getting out of hot water is all about awareness and actually KNOWING that you’re in it. Check in with yourself !


How’s Your Body Feeling?

Our bodies, are super at telling us if we’re in hot water.


The problem is, we often don’t pay attention  And when they do finally get our attention, we come up with all sorts of reasons why its hurting..


“Well, I feel terrible because I have a cold, pain in my back,” or, “Well, I was diagnosed with X medical condition,” so i don’t sleep well.


We rarely stop and ask ourselves WHY?   “Why did my body breakdown and develop this disease/condition?” “Why didn’t I sleep well last night?”


Its easy to blame outside conditions when in actually, we create everything, even unconsciously.


Look deeper and you’ll find it starts with stress, not taking time for yourself,  not being able to say no to others, with moving too fast, with carrying anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt and shame in your body for years, holding on to events from the past, and perhaps not being unable to forgive others and yourself…


The hot water you’re sitting in is often full of negative emotions that get trapped in the body.


So one simple way to tell if you’re in hot water or not is to take a moment, and check in with your body.


How does it feel? Maybe feel into your neck and shoulders, roll them around a little. Is there any tension or pain there? Is your back tight and sore? Are you dealing with some pain that just won’t heal? Have you accepted a level of pain in your body that you’ve simply just gotten used to?  What if there was a way to get rid of this pain once and for all?


People have often had pain for so long, they just decide to live with it, day in and day out.  Why?  Holding onto it will only damage your body, mind and spirit.  One technique that can help is time line therapy(R).  as well as using the pain paradigm to bring to conscious awareness what your feeling now….  we are so caught up in our everyday business and tasks that we don’t allow ourselves to feel anything, we dissociate from our feelings and emotions, pushing them down with alcohol, food, drugs, TV, Facebook, or other….

Wellness Wednesday ~ Intermittent Fasting?

Change can be daunting. We resist it because we get comfortable with our own habits, routines and our way of life. And, if we choose to move forward and experience life, maybe getting outside our comfort zone, change is inevitable.


 If you are following me on social media now, I encourage and am using intermittent fasting to help me lose weight for my next competition and it also will reboot your immune system and clean up house. Fasting allows our body to reduce oxidative stress, lower inflammation, curbs cravings and can help you lose weight and belly fat.  Other benefits include…Reducing Insulin Resistance, Lowering Your Risk of Type 2 Diabetes, May Help Prevent Cancer, May extend lifespan, and Is good for your brain!
