Floating Among Stars

Through binoculars

I observe herds of people

sailing towards the horizon,

a line I cannot define.

Let out a soft shrug,

pitying their feeble minds,

exchanging views

as my eyes wander

through a telescope.

An endless sky

lies above,

mesmerising rocks

orbiting through space.

Ambitiously built a rocket

to travel forever

across the limits drawn by sight,

a lost soul finding myself

floating among stars.

This is where I belong.

A quick note on Steemit. Steemit is another platform where I will be sharing my poetry, as I believe it is the future for any kind of writer. It is powered by cryptocurrency, not with ads (like WordPress). What does this mean for you? Nothing! I will still keep posting daily-poems and use the post-a-day prompts. However, I will be posting the poem first on Steemit (minutes before here) and in my posts, I have to attribute a link to Steemit. If you are interested in this platform, check it out by clicking here.

Spoon and Knife

Dinner is set on the table,

a savoury aroma wafting

through the dining room.

She takes out a spoon and a knife,

as she sits down asks

why her hands are holding a spoon

and not a fork.

Goes back to the drawer,

forcibly opening it,

cutlery clinking loudly

as her eyes narrowed down.

Her tongue rants to her husband

about how he misplaces things,

turning her home upside down.

His fists slammed on the table,

plates vibrating

as words fly over them

like air missiles in a world war.

Without pause,

each threw words

as if they were blades,

dodging hits and

launching sharper ones back.

Her face froze pale

as blood stained his white shirt

with a knife pierced through his heart.

Screaming, she ran towards him

held her spouse in bloody arms,

as his eyes closed.

Regret viciously trembles her body,

in the sorrow of the tragedy

she draws the knife out of his chest

and stabs it into hers.

They never meant

for cutlery to come between.

You Do Not Love Me

Loving you

is like attempting

to live on the sun

– never a happy ending.

Saw red flags waving

yet I ignored,

had a clear exit

but I blocked it out.

Been trying to get you to love me

the same way I love you,

giving you my all,

you must think I am a fool.

Last night,

the expression on your face

remained indifferent,

even as you were inside me.

I lie in bed with you,

upset, put hands

on your chest,

warmth escapes my palms.

My eyes glance at your face,

it is staring at a wall.

Now I know,

you are just a man

without a heart.

Nimble Runner

Throughout her life,

she trained her body

to become nimble and agile.

He pulled the trigger,

gunshot towards the smoky clouds,

the race begins.

Her eyes set on the prize,

fiercely gazing forward

never turning back.

Unperturbed by smelly sweat

or fatigued breath,

pushes herself harder

until she crosses the finish line.

Victorious,

celebrating by herself

waiting for everyone she left behind

until she realised,

winners always end up alone.

Dead Weight

Our love is mine,

uneven.

Comfortably you stay,

never threatening to leave

as if your presence is an honour

that I should thank the heavenly lords for.

You give less energy than what you take,

with time we are bound to break.

Taking advantage of my indecisions

knowing I will never give up on you and me,

no love to return

yet you decide to linger around

dragging me down to the ground.

Eloquence

Simple words

eloquently

constructed

like a building

with a slick design.

Together

they effortlessly

captivate your soul

into an eternity

of wandering.

The Wrath of Anxiety

Enslaved in a damp cellar,

mystic atmosphere freezes

the chains veiled

around my ankles.

In their fragile stiff state

they shatter,

time to escape.

Bare feet running,

covered in soot.

As the sun meets skin

blisters reproduce.

Ghosts’ gaze

and my tongue ties,

joints paralysed,

around me

eyes multiply,

I become dizzy,

fainting to the ground.

Secluded Fort

Self-absorbed in selfishness,

society ignores all the cries

of other civilisations.

Within our forts, secluded,

and the starving creatures

humans and animals left to die.

No care given to the pain inflicted

as long as we do not feel it ourselves.

We could throw our suits in the mud

leave our belongings behind

and live with love and peace,

but instead, find ourselves

wearing the skin

of those that we leave to die.

January 3, 2018

abandoned

rags swaddled around grimy skin

battling against frigid air.

body shivering,

hands hold legs tight,

head rocking in and out of knees.

a knock on the door

sends a chill down my spine,

creaking open

as he comes in,

hands me

a box of chocolate

he leaves,

and so do the treats,

only guilt remains.

another knock,

this time places a bouquet

of plucked flowers on my dresser

he leaves,

and the petals wither

as if they never lived.

he barges in,

no knock this time,

lifts me in his arms

embracing my mess

in his tidy suit

the warmth of his kiss,

electrifying,

it resuscitates

my dead soul.

Is this Seat Taken?

Seated comfortably on red fabric,

a cup of soda placed on the left holder.

He should arrive any minute now.

Popcorn flings into my hair,

scalp itchy from the disturbed thought

of uncleanliness.

I washed my hair for tonight.

I look at my phone and hesitate.

Should I turn it off already?

My thoughts are interrupted,

“Excuse me, is this seat taken?”.

         Yes, yes it is.

The lights dim and the audience quiets down,

my eyes glancing at everything but the screen.

         Where are you?

Intermission, but no missed calls.

No texts. Nothing.

A sip of dilute soda.

         The ice must have melted.

An alarming high-pitched noise,

my eyes swing wide open, startled.

         I must have dozed off.

Credits scrolling up the screen,

people are leaving

crushing nacho crusts under their shoes,

the same way that under your feet

         you crush my heart.
