art show online
This is interesting. Most of us do not get to art galleries in our usual routine lives, either because of lack of propinquity or the routine of our lives. These modern students take it online. It loses the 3D in trade, but gains a lot in accessibility.

Interesting to reflect how this sort of thing might go, and grow, in the future when and if the net grows 3D capacity.

(Why, yes, I do have a personal interest. You can probably figure it out if you scroll through the entries.)

Aaronovitch novella
Aha, I see Subterranean Press and Ben Aaronovitch have found each other...
http://subterraneanpress.com/aaronovi...
Such interesting things one can do with novellas these days. Back in the era of print-only, novellas, particularly fantasy novellas, used to be nearly unmarketable, too long for the magazines and too short for the book publishers.
As usual for SubPress, this is a collector's edition. I trust that a more affordable e-edition will be along someday.

two Hugo nominations
I am pleased to report that my work has received two Hugo final nominations this year, for the 2017 Worldcon to be held in Helsinki: "Penric and the Shaman" gets a slot in the Best Novella category, and the Vorkosigan Saga as a whole in the Best Series category.
The latter is a new, somewhat experimental award category this year. It has long been plain, to me at least, that the series is an art form in its own right, as distinct from the stand-alone novel as the novel is from the short story. But it's really hard to figure out how to fit the many varied structures and publication time-frames of series work into an award that tries to capture works by the calendar year. The solution on this initial trial is to limit candidacy to series that had a new novel/unit published in 2016, which seems to have encouraged some fresher names to appear.
The complete 2017 Hugo ballot may be seen here:

The 2017 Worldcon website is here:

and I can highly recommend Helsinki and Finland as places to go see, with or without fannish interests.

Mira marches on
I am pleased to report that the novella "Mira's Last Dance" has been picked up both by Blackstone, for audio production, and by Subterranean Press for another hardcover limited edition.
Both these are only just contracted, so I don't have any publication information yet, nor do I expect any for a while. I will of course post it when I do.

Mira reading at Dreamhaven
One of the fans at my Dreamhaven reading back on March 15th made this rather good-quality recording of it, now up on YouTube to share around...

Mira errata update survey
We're trying to find out if the (lightly) corrected version of "Mira's Last Dance" went through on our vendors, and/or if there are ways people who bought the slightly less copy-edited version can upgrade. My own Paperwhite shows no progress. Anyone else have anything to report?
Ta, L.
3/18: I'm told the B&N Nook version is now supposed to be updated; progress, maybe...
3/18 later still: the update is now supposed to be live on all platforms. Let me know if this seems to be so from your ends.
Onwards, L.

Mira reaches 99
Hah. "Mira's Last Dance" hit #99 in the Kindle store this morning. I don't see two figures in my sales rankings very often (nor very long, so I enjoy it while I can.)
My Amazon sales ranking commonly go up on the weekends, why I have no idea. So there's that, plus word getting around, but I suspect the primary driver is that when an e-story is selling well, it starts to pop up on assorted internal bestselling listings, and gets more cross-references in the "other people bought these related things" lists. Which, of course, sets up a positive feedback loop, which is why so much energy is wasted spent chasing otherwise-evanescent bestseller lists in the first place.
I suppose in terms of utility this replaces the Solitaire I took off my computer...

MLD typo, errata, and spoiler discussion thread
3/8 update: the corrections have gone in. If anyone finds any more... keep them a secret.
Meanwhile, the spoiler discussion part of the thread remains open for business. Have fun.
Ta, L.
This has seemed to work well before...
Herewith an open comment thread to report any typos or other errata spotted in "Mira's Last Dance", and for people who have already read the story to discuss it with each other.
One typo, one brain-o, and a bit of missing front-matter reported in the immediately prior thread already, sigh. I hope there won't be too many more. My plan is to give it a few more days and a lot more fresh eyes to find all we can, then send the collection in for one correction round. Which is not something one can do with printed books. Bug or feature...?
The spoilered discussion is all up to you.
